My wife and I cut some nice wood today at the neighbors house. I have a customer that wants a load of firewood this week and I'm going to put the money towards paying for the better chainsaw that I got.
    Equipment list :
One middle aged man wearing a stihl cap
    One stihl 461 chainsaw
One old 1998 chevy hunting truck

I live in south central Nebraska, so very simular to your country except our weather extremes aren’t as severe as yours. I can easily relate to your videos. I greatly appreciate your clean language and your apparent family values. I also like seeing a man who speaks honorably of his wife! God didn’t make anything better then a great wife! Stay blest and safe.

I noticed that you almost pinched your saw a couple of times, may I suggest that you keep a falling wedge in your pocket. You can prevent pinching the saw or get your saw out if you happen to pinch it. PS move your truck closer to the wood you made me tired just watching walk so much LOL .

Ben, As others are saying, chaps, helmet with face screen, learn about kickback, steel toeed boots, learn about pinching - compression and tension, learn about branches from other parts of the tree falling, etc. - "Terry Hale" videos cover most of this. "Outdoors with the Morgans" had a demo of how effective chaps are. Safety is number 1- It took me along time to get it. I love your videos. I was from North Iowa (about 15 miles east of Okaboji/Spirit Lake). I am now in the Chicago suburbs, and I burn 24/7 in my in the home wood burning stove.

That standing dead elm makes some good fire wood...especially the small to mid size limb wood. Nice and dense and burns great without splitting. Lots of people stay away from elm cuz of difficulty to split, but that's a nice score there and easy access - a big plus! 👍😀

I know a guys secret for splitting elm, it involves a sharp axe, a heavy maul, 6 wedges, 20 foot log chain, a 3/4 ton truck and 6 new four letter words.

I came home from the army in 1975 in the middle of the 'energy crisis' when everyone was burning wood. I had an old Homelite XL-12, bought a rusted out 1960 1/2 ton pickup, built a wood flat bed on the back and got in the firewood business. $25/load (about 1/2 cord). Cut off the forest service timber sales, cleaning up behind loggers. After a few weeks, I bought a new 041 Farm Boss and probably cut thousands of loads with that saw over the years.

Oh yes that did really hurt, I know from experience. Some people say stupid should hurt and it really does. I wish I could send you a picture of my shins, they have both taken a lot of hard knocks and my worst was when a round limb about 2 inches started through the splitter and suddenly exploded. The half on my side of the wedge flew and hit my left shin fracturing my leg half way between my ankle and my knee. I even saw what might happen and had moved out of the way, but it somehow tracked me down. I went to Dick,s sporting goods and bought a pair of shin guards. They sell a pair of socks without a foot in them, and you put them on over your socks and slide a shin guard down in between your socks and the other sock that doesn,t have the foot on it. The shin guard really works. They have all sizes, mine are about 7 or 8 inches long. Work really stop a lot of scrapes and knocks worth a lot more than they cost, about 12 dollars.
