I haven't commented on every video I have watched ,,, but I have to say you give a brilliant presentation, down to earth but factual with good comparisons that are everyday and very similar,,,, and very helpful from start to finish ,,,, Many thanks,,,,
The dark to light transitions reminds me of my Replay camera. If you run across a barrel camera with a 1 inch tube that works well please share the model number. I am looking for a 1 inch barrel camera to mount to my rifle for recording video of shooting competitions.
As per usual, Matt... Good honest job well done. Can't hide my disappointment that you didn't end the year reviewing some bizarre kitchen aid to help use up Turkey or dried mince pies. Your pop up omelet on a stick device was inspired!
Hey Techmoan, you've done a lot of car dvr reviews already. Perhaps you could also review some low-priced gps trackers and see how they perform and which one has the best price/quality ratio. I think you are the perfect person to do so, you have a lot of experience with car-mounted (data collecting) electronics and you know what you're talking about.
Last review of the year, a bit disappointing that the product was a bit of a failure. The review however, nothing to add really, well done. Happy new year Matt.
Tom: The Mobius is fantastic. I bought that because I didn't need the mega-wide lens that the SJ1000 has. I have nothing against the SJ1000, it just doesn't suit my needs.
Great review, but I think this is not the last we have heard of this one. The exposure learning algo is pretty much software stuff. So they may send you a new firmware cam soon!
Techmoan: - can anything be done to add a zooming - distance lense, such as a ragecam? - is there anything to do about sound, like recording a conversation outdoors? or is it useless in that regard? - would a sunshade like that used on telescopic scopes alleviate the exposure issue? solid review by the way !
hmm... I bought a mobius recently based on your review, and it has exactly the same light/dark behavior when given the same conditions (facing toward sun at dusk when sun is very low in clear sky, very low light level in foreground). Going back to your mobius video again, I noticed you had only tested it when the sun was higher in the sky, or on overcast days. Could be a good test to add to your repertoire?
Thanks for this video. You saved me £40! So what would you suggest in 'bullet' format bearing in mind value for money and replaceable battery to continue recording. I need as helmet camera while off road cycling so the exposure issue needs to be right. I don't want a box on my head so go pro are out.... Looking forward to your suggestions. Cheers!
Hey Techmoan, are you going to make a review of SJ3000 or the new SJ4000 action camera? I have been waiting for a review of this SJ2000 camera, thanks for making it!
The lighting on this one doesn't seem to all that bad, its not great but i also think this camera is intended as more of an under water cam. Loved the review though! :D
Hello and a Happy New Year ! What do you think about this SJ200 with the latest firmware ? Same bad opinion ? Well,I'm interested in a camera with this shape and replacable battery. Besides this one,is there any other one ? Thanks !
What is your favorite camera of this year then? :-) Don't you think that a firmware update will fix the brightness problems? Seems like a software fault/setting.
Hello Techmoan! What is the best action camera in low light that you've bought, like with HDR mode for video or something, it has to be a action cam and not a Dash Cam. If you haven't got hang of one yet I understand! Thank you.
What about the darker parts being brightned up after editing? Too bright footage can't be saved, too dark most of the time can be saved or at least usable. Well, it has to be good most of the time actually. Thanks for the review!
I don't recommend buying a camera that doesn't perform well then re-editing all the footage to get it looking right, much better to get a properly functioning camera.
Excellent review man! Thumbs up and subscribed! I bought one of these from AliExpress and the video quality was pretty decent for the dirt cheap pricing. But there seems to be a problem with the audio on the video clips..the audio keeps compressing itself...for instance a 30second clip will only have a 15seconds audio that is 2x times the normal speed. Updated the firmware, but that didn't help either. Can you please help??
It's better to buy sj1000. It has screen and better quality. Now it has also better, smaller case with power button and the same color manual. Mounting clips are also new. Unfortunatelly, screen saver is set to 3min. It's fixed time and it can't be changed. Again. My last sj1000 was faulty and I've send it back. Look out for seller from link given by Techmoan in sj1000 review. The camera came fast but the seller avoid contacting after returning the camera:( So I bought new one:(
If this not good for Motorcycle riders, it's perfect to me as I am Airsoft player playing in small lighting field.. thank you very much for reviewing this cam and show all this nice footage. I Sub and like with many thanks! Cheers!
Thanks for the info - since youtube let anyone advertise, people have been re-upping other peoples videos to get the ad-revenue. I haven't used the Jumbo in a couple of years - it's in a box somewhere, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Hi Techmoan, I was wondering if you could possibly do a video on basic editing techniques for a layman like myself. Or even putting me in the right direction on where to start. Looking at videos and wondering how people add even basic stuff like over writing etc is a mystery to me. Many thanks Wozza
I've picked up things as I've gone along, but really it's all down to understanding the features of the particular editing package you are using. On my Mac I use iMovie (it's either free with a new Apple computer or very cheap to buy) and you start off by just joining clips together, then figure out how to trim them and add transitions and text, overlay music etc. It comes pretty easy as long as you have the one program that will handle everything. I'm really not up on PC editing software, so if anyone can suggest any Windows programs that are as easy to use as iMovie, please do so
I really like this camera! Removable battery is a great advantage. is it possible to silence the camera in the photo mode? For every photo, it makes a sound..
Got a SJ1000 about a week back and it comes with the same sort of accessories abeilt more mount options and similar booklet et all...But I seem to have a small case of this exposure problem in mine too, a firmware problem perhaps
Hi Matt came across your channel while trying to do some camera research and glad I did because you obviously know what you are talking about and give an unbiased review, so I hope I have provided enough flattery to ask a question if not let me know and I will flatter some more lol. My question is this I am looking for an inexpensive head cam, I think anyway, that I can use whilst out metal detecting ( yes I am an anorack ) It would need to cope with wind, not mine but the weather type, it would need to be waterproof or at least showerproof, and need to be idiot proof to a degree, why? well because I am a bit of an idiot when it comes to video. I have up to £100 to spend if I don't tell the misses so any help you can give me on this would be very much appreciated Kindest regards Alex
Hi boss, I really appreciate your professional review on this camera. Could you please let me know the battery life 2 hours and 20 minutes is recorded in 1080p 30fps or 720p 60fps mode? Also please advise if this camera is suitable for bicycle ride? Thanks in advance.
Limin Feng I always test battery life in the 1080p30 modes - so even though I don't remember doing this video (amnesia) I am confident that this is what I will have done. If you use it on a bike - put it on your helmet to reduce shakes.
what encoding and format are you using for your UA-cam videos? when you switch to driving video i am yelling in my head "oh man car incoming move to the right track, move, move damn you!!!" and then i realize "wait hes in UK" :)
When I started working in Manchester that was Maxwell House and printed Newspapers - somehow I ended up at a VIP event featuring Lionel Ritchie when they re-opened it as an entertainment venue. If I get chucked out again, I'll be sure to film it and post it here.
If plugged in direct from a USB port will it automatically turn on and start to record? And also if plugged in from a direct USB. Port (car 12v) when ignition is switched off will it automatically stop recording and turn off by itself?
Did you ever find out about this camera? I want to use this like a dash camera on a motorcycle, turn on when I start the bike and shut off when I shut the bike off.
The horizontal field of view looks a touch under 90 degrees to me. I look for right angles (eg. crossroads, square shaped paving) which intersect at the point of view and try to determine if both perpendicular lines fit into the shot. If the field of view was 180 degrees you could point it at a wall from any distance and see the entire width of the building. Similarly, you could stand on one side of a (straight) road, point it at the opposite side, and the entire road would fit into the shot in both directions all the way to the horizon. A 170 degree FOV should capture nearly as much. I know it claims to have a 170 degree lens and not a 170 degree FOV but that's really a deceptive thing to advertise if the sensor doesn't use half of it
Sr, i need help and i will apreciate if you can helpme with this, i need to desactivate the time/date information in picture/video of the SJ2000, i dont know how to do it, please.....
thanks for all the vids' I've watched over a dozen. But it seems like all the action cameras have 120-140 degree viewing angles. Do you know of any action camera with a 70 or 90 degree viewing angle? I'd like to add it to my helmet for airsoft games. And the narrow angle would pull in targets I'm looking at, instead of them being further away on the video. Ideally 70 degree would be best (similar to a standard Camcorder)
I,ve watched quite a few of your reviews ...brilliantly done ...factual ..and to the point without needless background musack for those with short attention spans...however I wish I,d watched this before buying one of the generic cameras available on ali express ..oops
I respectfully disagree - I thought most of that footage was 'usable' straight out of camera. With some color correction by people w/ access or the knowledge of how to do it, I think you can make most footage work. Plus, people don't action cam footage to be super good anyways. I think the main advantage of the 2000 to the 1000 is the mounting. A lot of the options are a lot more low-profile than the 1000 (no screen, though) and they seem a lot more secure (the 1/4 screw thread is shallow, like you said).
Went through the whole video showing promising video clips, then at the very end showed the problem lol. I bet the inpatient people who bought it after 1 min of your video are gonna regret it...
hi i love your videos on all the cams, but still i have a question I bought a motorhome and i want 4 cameras on it all wifi and it must record automaticly when driving ,also if possible with gps and of course 1screen where you could see all cameras. I never could find one that also record automaticlt all 4 . Do you know such system o i forgot also in hd if possible and on ipad android or iphone Thanks in advance cees
I'm not sure anything like that exists, I think you're requirements are beyond current technology (data write speeds for four HD cams would be greater than a SD card could manage)...however I'd recommend visiting here dashcamtalk.com
Techmoan do you ever sell any of the cameras you have review and the ones that you buy to review after you must have 100 s by now if do sell any after drop me line
That's a shame you are one of the best on UA-cam for review cam's and been truthful about all that you review when even the maker tell little white lie's.
Its a real shame about this Camera as it gives good mounting options and an external mic which is really a necessity for motorvlogging. im currently looking at a camera which has these features which is the xdreme hd that you have reviewed but the as you mentioned with the crocolis you wouldnt want it strapped to your helmet. may be they will have another go at putting the SJ1000 guts in a helmet camrea that solves the issues with the SJ2000
This one doesn't have an external mic input. If you can find anyone selling the SVC200 - it's the cheapest way to start motovlogging using a camera with a Mic-in The best £100 Action Camera - TCL SVC200
I'm sure you could permanently attach this to a helmet, use putty to disguise its silhouette and paint it the same colour as the helmet... if you really wanted to. No guarantee it wouldn't overheat, actually
Hi, someone told me you would be the man to ask about a small camcorder. I need to mount a small camcorder to a guitar for instructional video. I tried the action cam route, but they just aren't very good. I had a Canon Vixia HF M500 which was a great camera but it's a little too big and heavy. I need something that can be controlled via wireless remote. (starting and stopping recording) Do you have any suggestions? Thanks so much!
I've never been skiing (I could never get over the fact the word has two ii's next to each other)...however all the camera's I think are worth a second look are on my website (in the right-hand column). www.techmoan.com
Techmoan - have you by any chance reviewed Mini Sports Action Camera, or similar item to 230965626687 currently on Ebay, it may be a cheaper version of SJ2000 as reveiwed here?
Leaked on the first try underwater at only 8ft. Rated at 32ft. I would imagine its good for land use but not in the rain. If you do decide to buy it for land use, DO NOT IT BUY FROM SPY-TEC. They don't give refunds on defective products. Numerous online customer complaints against them. If you call them and they ask you to leave a message and they don't call you back. In the end, they returned the defective camera after they lied and said I did not return the seals with the defective product. Bad camera with no refund so they love to stick it to their customers. Go directly to LOREX and buy their similar camera. Works great underwater and comes with two gaskets to prevent leaking. The SJ2000 does not which is probably why it leaked.
hello sir . i have same camera .but my probleme is the time .when i connect the camera with pc and i fix the hour in file inside camera .but when i rec .and i watch the video i see the time in 2000year the battery is good is work good but one probleme is the time .can you help me .thank you
Create a file called time.txt and place it in your card, root folder, not in DCIM. Open it. Copy: 2017.06.14 08:15:00 As for 14th of May 2017, 8:15AM And adapt.
I haven't commented on every video I have watched ,,, but I have to say you give a brilliant presentation, down to earth but factual with good comparisons that are everyday and very similar,,,, and very helpful from start to finish ,,,, Many thanks,,,,

Thanks old chap, hope your 2014 is up to scratch. I'll be off to bed before midnight - I've been up since 6am and in work today and I'm beat.
You are always honest in your reviews and that's a big plus in my book.

What helmet camera would you actually recommend?
Thanks Buddy, almost went and got one of these as a secondary camera for myself to accompany the Drift HD1080 for my Motovlogging, Not now, :)

Thanks for the great video as always Techmoan! Happy Newyear.
Thanks Matt I've watched every single video of yours and happy new year
Which begs the question which was your favourite of 2013 ?
Looking for the most affordable semi decent alternative to the regular big player cameras for motovlogging and i'm so so glad i subscribe to you....
Hey Techmoan, are you going to make a review of SJ3000 or the new SJ4000 action camera?

It is exactly a great comprehensive video and objective review! Brilliant !

I Sub and like with many thanks!

I also saw an SJ3000 and it look almost identical to the sony action cam
Baolong 1324 stole a video of yours (jumbo camera). Btw does the jumbo 808 still work? Good work mate!
Thanks for the info - since youtube let anyone advertise, people have been re-upping other peoples videos to get the ad-revenue. I haven't used the Jumbo in a couple of years - it's in a box somewhere, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I am impressed with the first 1 Tho the downside for me is the battery life If I am going out for the day I would need at least 4 spare batteries.

Yeah could you do a review of the SJ4000?!
I will be reviewing the SJ4000 next year. I haven't got one yet.
Techmoan so in 3 days you mean ;)
Thank you, your reviews are always thorough and useful!
And we wouldn't want to force you to make any spendings..
Techmoan You can buy it on Ali-express , it looks just like a go pro . I'm interested too see if it will fit in go pro mounts.
I am going to spend my Christmas money on something else. Thanks for all your top reviews
take no notice what he says its a good camera for £10 off ebay
I really like this camera! Removable battery is a great advantage.
is it possible to silence the camera in the photo mode? For every photo, it makes a sound..
some one could say the dimensions of the mic hole?
and, anyway to modify photo resolution..? The switch 1080-720 is just for video mode?
So looking forward to the review on the SJ4000
Got a SJ1000 about a week back and it comes with the same sort of accessories abeilt more mount options and similar booklet et all...But I seem to have a small case of this exposure problem in mine too, a firmware problem perhaps
sad too see it's bad. loom forward to more reviews in 2014. hopefully some new keychain cameras, ect.
the mobuis ation camera is a new keychian camera
I wonder if there is any possible way to change the settings of this camera ? With some TXT ?
Will you say what your camera of the year is? :)
Happy New Year and thanks so much for the great videos!
*****
How the heck did you find me in here!!! Happy New Year from the Boss and me!
I only thought these posts would appear in UA-cam... so much for that....
Every review... clear and helpful. Thanks.
Hi Matt
came across your channel while trying to do some camera research and glad I did because you obviously know what you are talking about and give an unbiased review, so I hope I have provided enough flattery to ask a question if not let me know and I will flatter some more lol.
My question is this I am looking for an inexpensive head cam, I think anyway, that I can use whilst out metal detecting ( yes I am an anorack )
It would need to cope with wind, not mine but the weather type, it would need to be waterproof or at least showerproof, and need to be idiot proof to a degree, why? well because I am a bit of an idiot when it comes to video.
I have up to £100 to spend if I don't tell the misses so any help you can give me on this would be very much appreciated
Kindest regards
Alex
Nice review again. Cheers mate!
Excellent reviews! I'm thinking Contour Roam2 so far...
If you use it on a bike - put it on your helmet to reduce shakes.
ok, understand, many thanks.
I know id like to see a revisit to the SJ1000 review since they changed the len on the thing.
The quality of this camera format has never really worked and it is a shame because it is the perfect format for a helmet camera
what encoding and format are you using for your UA-cam videos?
when you switch to driving video i am yelling in my head "oh man car incoming move to the right track, move, move damn you!!!" and then i realize "wait hes in UK" :)
iMovie - Share - 1080p (Not too sure what it does then - but that's all the control I have).
Waiting untill he gets kicked out of the Print Works again.
When I started working in Manchester that was Maxwell House and printed Newspapers - somehow I ended up at a VIP event featuring Lionel Ritchie when they re-opened it as an entertainment venue. If I get chucked out again, I'll be sure to film it and post it here.
Do you reccomend any good tactical flashlight design and size helmet camera? Id like to mount one to the rails on a fast helmet? Many Thanks
If plugged in direct from a USB port will it automatically turn on and start to record? And also if plugged in from a direct USB. Port (car 12v) when ignition is switched off will it automatically stop recording and turn off by itself?
Did you ever find out about this camera? I want to use this like a dash camera on a motorcycle, turn on when I start the bike and shut off when I shut the bike off.
i was hoping that you will try it under water .. and see if its handy and waterproof :)

thanks for all the vids'
I've watched over a dozen.
Hello, I'd like yo see you review the Tucuxi camera from ChinaVasion. It's only $65USD or £40.
Any firmware upgrades?
its a shame... compared with the sj1000
hope you can review the sj3000 and 4000
Sj4000 is released. Would be happy for a review.. :)
I,ve watched quite a few of your reviews ...brilliantly done ...factual ..and to the point without needless background musack for those with short attention spans...however I wish I,d watched this before buying one of the generic cameras available on ali express ..oops

Thank you. I was wondering what the battery life is like. I was hoping for a whole day's worth. /:
Very imformative and helpful. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to more videos in 2014. Have a good New Year.
ok, it is not a recommended camera, but where is an alternative flashlight waterproof style camera with removable battery as this..?
hi i love your videos on all the cams, but still i have a question
I bought a motorhome and i want 4 cameras on it all wifi and it must record automaticly when driving ,also if possible with gps and of course 1screen where you could see all cameras.
I never could find one that also record automaticlt all 4 .
Do you know such system o i forgot also in hd if possible and on ipad android or iphone

I'm not sure anything like that exists, I think you're requirements are beyond current technology (data write speeds for four HD cams would be greater than a SD card could manage)...however I'd recommend visiting here dashcamtalk.com
Thanks again for a great review - well worth the read.
Thank you for your info. I guess I should start bucking my ideas up and start learning. :)
Once you find a suitable editing package it's just trial and error, you'll pick it up in no time.
Good evening, I need help, can you tell me the link of an honest store that delivers and sells this camera, I'm very grateful.
Techmoan do you ever sell any of the cameras you have review and the ones that you buy to review after you must have 100 s by now if do sell any after drop me line
gene mayne no I just review things. I don't do sales.
That's a shame you are one of the best on UA-cam for review cam's and been truthful about all that you review when even the maker tell little white lie's.
Hey man which is the cheapest sports camera?
Maybe a firmware update might solve this issue.

This one doesn't have an external mic input. If you can find anyone selling the SVC200 - it's the cheapest way to start motovlogging using a camera with a Mic-in The best £100 Action Camera - TCL SVC200
ah thank you ill have a look around maybe chinavasion might have it
found one on amazon but it isnt cheap

I was hoping that this would be a helmet with the camera built into it, sort of undercoverish.
Watch my next review out in the next 24hrs, it may be just what you need.
Techmoan Will do, thank you!
Techmoan Can you let me know the brand and model so I can do a little research ahead of your video?
mike702dax You can watch it now.
Sony HDR MV1 Music Cam Review (Includes plenty of sample clips)
Damn, so close its like its needs the sj1000 HDR mode to fix it
The ebay page on the link says, 1 sold. I think I have a pretty good idea who that is.
What is your favorite camera of the year, i.e. skiing!
I've never been skiing (I could never get over the fact the word has two ii's next to each other)...however all the camera's I think are worth a second look are on my website (in the right-hand column). www.techmoan.com
Thanks for the review.
Techmoan - have you by any chance reviewed Mini Sports Action Camera, or similar item to 230965626687 currently on Ebay, it may be a cheaper version of SJ2000 as reveiwed here?
After 1 year and just 4 uses mine has stopped working. Only works when being charged via USB.
Why not review something even cheaper like a £4.03 helmet camera from eBay?
For the bike mount can you twist the camera around or is it fixed in one angle only?
If you don't do technical reviews for a living, you should! Quite informative. Thanks.
This camera was recently given to me without any software. How do you record and playback? Does someone mind sharing please.
What's that thing at the start of the video? The spinny thing with leds.
That's my intro machine. www.techmoan.com/blog/2013/3/20/the-new-video-intro-why-what-and-how.html

Its a camera for your helmet.
Does wearing such a camera make you a helmet?
А сколько стоит?? How much it costs?? Какова комплектация??? What is included??
@5 mins 11, the colour must be way out, the sky has never been blue, let alone that blue in Preston lol.
