I also talk about Unboxing the pump as well as Drive pipes and Delivery pipe connections and material type. The video might not make sense as a stand alone video on youtube but should on the website.

    Hello Seth, I was curious to know if this system, or say out take hose delivering water can be adapted for use to supply water to a house? the idea here is to use a cement 1500gl cement cistern 40 feet above the house and then attach the Ram Pump in between the pvc to the main water copper pipe that supplies water to the house. The ram pump would be doing the job of a water pump to supply presure to the house for everyday use of water for showers, laundry, and bathrooms. Do you think it would work????

    Question:
    For a fast creek, the larger diameter drive pump will obviously deliver more water to the pump than the smaller diameter pipe. I am still confused on which size to get. I bet that I could easily get 8 gallons per minute from 1 1/4 pvc, but with only ~ 2-3 feet of head pressure. The smaller diameter pipes will deliver less. Should I bring different sizes to the creek and measure the flow through each? Or is it just safer to get a smaller size?
    Somewhat related questions: can I use a 3 inch pvc pipe, then couple it down to 1” right before the pump? Will this create more flow, or somehow increase the head pressure delivered?
    Thank you so much for your AWESOME videos!!

    Seth I've commented on your pump videos before and enjoy them all, thanks. I have a question I can't recall you addressing, let me see if I can ask this right. Generally you would use a size drive line that is of the same size as the input ball valve such as 1" drive line for a 1" pump. Is there any advantage to having the drive line from say 1 1/2" for the 1" pump? Are there reasons why this isn't done as I've not seen it on any pump that I recall? In my setup I went with a 1 1/4" pump but at times the creek flow slows in the late summer so the pump becomes so slow it will not pump. I made the pump myself and should have gone with a smaller size at the start. Head height on my pump is about 50" and near 80' of run. Spring running water was what I calculated and it was much different in the later summer as the flow decreased. I was just thinking that a larger supply line on a smaller pump would supply the water needed in the slower flow times. Plus I have the 1 1/4" black pipe already. Thanks again for the great videos you make.

      I briefly touched on that Concept in previous videos but have not made a dedicated video yet. I am actually standing in the shop putting a bigger hole in my bucket for that video. :) a smaller pump can run on a larger pipe but there are some major inefficiencies. Sometimes even enough to stop the pump. Basically a small check valve is having to push against a large volume of water going back uphill and this causes less output.

      Those tanks do work well. I have plans on testing one on the channel in the summer. Depending on the pumps size a 1gallon tank would work. For larger pumps like the 1-1/4" I would go a bit larger like 2 or 3 gallon.

    Any plans to offer a 2 inch drive pipe size ram pump?
    Extrapolating - maybe minimum input 10 GPM
    In the video, you said the minimum input requirements were 2 GPM for 1/2 inch drive pipe, 4 GPM for 3/4 inch, 6 GPM for 1" drive pipe and 8 GPM for 1 1/4 inch drive pipe. Were you getting those flow rates for with the 3 ft head? Any idea what the maximum input flow rates would be if more head was available and if the 6 to 1 output ration holds constant for larger volumes? Would a larger drive pipe help or just reduce the velocity of the water headed to the pump?
    I think you said the lift was about 20 ft. Any idea if the lift was 10 ft would the same or more water be delivered and would the pressure be the same or different at the lower lift?
    At first I thought that all I cared about was the volume of water delivered, but now realized that the pressure also matters if I'm going to run a low pressure sprinkler like a Wobbler or a drip irrigation system, which may also take pressure.
    The above may only matter if as much water as possible can be productively used - like for irrigation.
    Thanks for the video - I remembered you mentioned the O ring - now I know where it goes on the 1 1/4 ram pump that I have from Land To House, but haven't used yet. Dave from the Water Powered Pumps public Facebook Group:

    Was it to augment the pressure at the pump ?

      I use a pipe known as a "stand pipe" on the drive pipe to bring the source closer to the pump. This is used when the drive pipe needs to be long to gain the needed head pressure.
      If you need to lift water that high you will need a waste valve that is heavier than the swing valves I use. 40 meters is too high for the swing valve.

      When air enters slowly into the drive pipe it causes the pump to stop with the valve open. When more water is introduced it typically causes the valve to snap closed and stay closed. I have run a test before using an automatic timer valve that allowed the pump to restart on its own but it all depended on which state the valve was in when the timer went off

      If the delivery pipe is too small you'll have friction loss. If it is too big it just cost more. no issues with pumping water

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  3 роки тому

      The check valve is the name of the component used. There are 2 check valves used in the ram pump. The waste valve and the inline valve.

    I would want to see a 2"rampump how it works

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 роки тому

      It would work just the same expect it would require a lot more water.

      How much approximate water will I get with the 2"pump per minute.. and how thick my drive pipe can be.does it has to be 2" too???

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 роки тому

      It would need to be 2" for the drive pipe. I have not worked with the 2". You could likely get around 2gpm or more. That's over 2000 gallons a day pumped.

      It's made of PVC and brass. Last I knew salt water did not affect those materials much.
      You have a saltwater stream or river??

    what inside that pressure tank ?

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  5 років тому +1

      The pressure tank has a partially inflated bicycle tube. This helps to reduce water logging of the tank

      Too bad this isn’t covered in the video. You might even make a demo pump with a clear pressure tube for illustration. Also is the shock wave building and with it gets big enough it goes by itself? Newbie trying to grasp why this works.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 роки тому +1

      Hello. I actually have over 100 videos on the ram pump. There are even a couple with a clear PVC pressure tank. It should be helpful in understanding how it works :)

    let me get this straight.......if the water head is 10 meters, the ram pump will lift the water 70 meters up ????

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  3 роки тому

      There is a cap at approximately 54 meters. The waste valve is not heavy enough to reopen with higher input head pressure.

    I watched most of your RAM pump videos why do you say your delivery pipe can be any size you want and it makes no difference but right here in your video you have it reduced smaller than the Drive pipe if it makes no difference why do you have it reduced.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching! Reducing the delivery pipe size helps with cost. Say you are running a 1-1/4" pump and the delivery is 900 feet long. You would save a few hundred dollars with 3/4" pipe vs 1-1/4" delivery.

    • @arnulfonarido7551
