  • We are pleased to announce senior leaders in the energy industry have signed up to donate their hair or shave their heads at the third Energy Shave for the Brave in support of Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC)!
Mark Collett, Chief Executive Officer at Crosbie, got the idea for the first Energy Shave for the Brave in 2020 after YACC Executive Director Geoff Eaton spoke in support of the industry at a rally on Confederation Hill. Collett Shaved his head during the 2021 Noia conference-and has kept the momentum going ever since.
“We’ve got six senior leaders in the energy industry across all areas from utilities, to oil and gas, to hydrogen,” said Collett. “We’re really excited. It’s going to be a big event, a big day for YACC, and a big day in the energy industry.”
The first two events raised more than $531,000 combined, and this year’s event is set to be on par with over $250,000 raised so far, making another monumental impact on the homegrown organization.
“Since the Energy Shave has started, we’ve added a social worker to our team, we’ve launched a new web experience for young adults with cancer in Canada, and we have developed-and now are actively recruiting-for the Recover Study so we can better understand life and cancer for young adults for the long road. These things are having a profound impact on young adults across Newfoundland and Labrador, and across the country,” said Eaton.
“A thanks goes to the energy industry. The philanthropic spirit of this industry is one of the reasons I love working in it,” said Collett.
This year’s Shavers include Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador; Anne-marie Curtis, Senior Director, Emera NL; Duncan Fitzpatrick, President, Hibernia Management And Development Company Ltd.; Jim Beresford, Vice President, Equinor Canada; Neil Martin, Director of Asset Life Extension, Cenovus Energy; and Sean Leet, Managing Director & CEO, World Energy GH2.
Shave for the Brave started in St. John’s in 2006 and has since become a national event that raises funds required to provide supportive programs and services to help people diagnosed with cancer before the age of 40 and currently between the ages of 18-39 connect with others who truly understand the unique issues they’re dealing with.
The 2024 Energy Shave for the Brave takes place on May 24, 2024 at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John's, NL. Learn more at www.energyshaveforthebrave.ca!
