I remember watching an interview of Dr. V P Gangadharan on Kairali Channel (years back). There he mentioned about his and Dr Chitra's struggles as students pursuing masters/doctorate of medicine in Delhi. Dr. Gangadharan has studied at AIIMS, Delhi and Dr. Chitra is an alumni of VMMC & Safdurjung Hospital. Two top rated medical colleges run by the government of India even today!. There he mentioned about how the couple had decided to establish their family without any financial support from the family although they both belong to upper middle class strata. It takes a lot of courage to marry the partner of your choice, building your family with no financial support from parents, and a lot of respect and love for each other to not let their career sacrifice due to the so-called patriarchal norms. Remember Dr Chitra is as popular as him. I truly respect that quality in him and his better half. I also hope there will be more doctors like them in our country. Hope there will be more government run medical colleges in our country. Post 1990s there was a drastic decline of government led medical colleges in India. Anyone who pays crores of rupees as capitation fee can't deliver justice to this profession.
