@ 34:30 The only place you really need to use silver solder is any connections made in any silver lined porcelain connector blocks, which are usually high voltage connections. Using regular 60/40 solder will strip the silver off of each points connection area, and eventually you cannot make a joint in that spot anymore.
Great finds I've been watching you for years. I'm only 23 but you remind me of alot of the older guys I've run into at shops and sales there always happy that I'm into too vinyl and older electronics old posters magazines etc.. i just bought an old GE radio just like that one at an estate sale finally have been finding some older radios always have thought they were cool just never saw them around much..
The Magnavox “Grand Classic” radio is the same radio seen in the Petries kitchen in “The Dick Van Dyke Show”. Magnavox supplied the radios, tvs and record players for that show and they’d be updated as the seasons went.
Nice line up! I miss going to different sales because after Antiques Roadshow came out, everybody overcharged all tube equipment and the only buyers were the antique store vultures who didn’t even bother cleaning off the dried on turds but yet tripled the demand price for those radios. Notice I said demand price!
Some great finds. Radio TV phono nut would you, by chance, no. were a person find a cartridge for a 1948 Motorola record player? I am restoring one and have no idea were to start to find one. The turn table seems to be working great.
6:10 - When attempting to play the cassette function on one of these machines, always make sure the function selector is set to Phono mode, since both sources often utilize the same motor. I learned this the hard way, because I probably damaged that motor when I inserted a cassette tape while the funtion was set to Tuner or CD! Lesson learned..
@@Zickcermacity my reply stands based on i service them and many like it have you opened a unit up i have i used to sell high end stereo sets that cost thousands of dollars then got in to serviceing them and other stuff like croslys etc
@@apctech1 I'm just telling you what happened in my case. In fact, the instruction manual for the one I broke, after the fact, mentioned having the function selector set to specifically to Phono for cassette playback. I'm not Fox, apctech, I report what really happened.
Wow that's a nice bunch of stuff, good intake video! I'm very envious even though this isn't all my kind of stuff! When I used to run the flea market/surplus store circuit (in the early 2000's every other month,) I got that much weight in good/interesting stuff two or three times. (not that it's over). I remember how worn out I was when I spread everything out on the living room floor when I got home after a 20 hour flea market/surplus hunt with friends. Most of it was parts or broken/incomplete things but I've never been so satisfied and tired in that way since.
I just discovered you from a clock repair for your mom. I have a Juliette FEC-5010 Electro Digit Solid State AM FM Clock Radio. I am in search of someone showing how to repair the screen, 2:30 which I steal low and not accurate and clear. Any ideas on how or a video? Ty.
I have that same Sony tabletop radio. Great performer, really good sound, even received compliments. Did not even need pots sprayed. Got it from thrift store (don't remember which) for a bargain price. No more.
There are some big combo CRT TVs out there. On nextdoor there's this guy in Arlington, TX with a 27" Magnavox VCR/DVD combo, biggest one there probably ever was made. But he wants $105 for it and originally listed it for $150. Needless to say it hasn't been sold yet.
Really like that Zenith TO set, never had enough money when I see one for sale I only have their “Meridian” radio from 1953 that needs a fair bit of work. I remember a Westinghouse fridge style radio and the guy wanted like $100 or so. No thank you.
Those two (2) TVs are analog only. Today’s TV sets are digital. You need a converter box for those old TV sets.2009 was the last year for analog tv 📺 broadcasting. .
By the way the fada Catalan radio is a 252 or a 652. The 252 is pre-war. The 652 is post-war. I have a maroon version of the same radio and also a blue version of the same radio in my collection. Thank goodness I started collecting 45 years ago when things were more relatively available. Good luck with your collection hope you get everything working and sounding good
Hi I have always enjoyed watching your videos. I am older, ready to retire and need to downsize in a major way. Over the years I have collected a lot of stuff and want to get rid of it. Lots of radios turntables old console radios. I have a philco beam of light. I’m not looking for money I just don’t want the stuff junked. I could bring it to you. I have a truck
The man who came to watch you remove the tape, that tape was probably not him and his wife. It was probably him and a 6 year old or a dead body or something.
Sad part about estate sales is the persons that owned the items died. And they can't take it with them. Hopefully it's a lot better in the other place, where Earthly possessions wouldn't matter to keep one happy. Interesting video!

Plastic clock radios do nothing for me. I got one of those GE portables and they work decent, AC and DC. Often flippers leave those old radios alone because they know nothing about them. Others grab them and don't care what they are, they think they are all worth alot of money. Estate sales often get cleaned out of that good stuff before I can get there. The last cool thing I got at an estate was a cool antique Templars sword and case only because it was on a tall shelf and I am a tall man who saw it and others missed it.

Antiques Roadshow didn’t inflate prices as much as Pawn Stars and American Pickers did. The market is still recovering from those.

These pseudo-wooden Crosley's might be good for stripping and putting a little tube amp and some good full-range speakers in.

Shango did a video on those Westinghouse radios

You'll probably have to substitute a modern cartridge, such as a Pfanstiehl P51-3. You can get cartridges from www.thevoiceofmusic.com.

just putting the tape in wont hurt the motor if set to turner or cd you just wont get audio and the tape motor wont run most times

So does the Victrola brand (aka Crapola).
Except for the one high end set the original company made, the huge, super expensive WLW.
