- Out in the desert theres a soldier lying dead
Vultures pecking the eyes out of his head
Another day that could have been me there instead
Nobody loves me here
Nobody loves me here
Dads Gonna Kill Me
Dads Gonna Kill Me
You hit the booby trap and youre in pieces
With every bullet your risk increases
Old Ali Baba, hes a different species
Nobody loves me here
Nobody loves me here
Im dead meat in my HumV Frankenstein
I hit the road block, God knows I never hit the mine
The dice rolled and I got lucky this time
Ive got a wife, a kid, another on the way
I might get home if I can live through today
Before I came out here I never used to pray
Nobody loves me here
Nobody loves me here
Dads in a bad mood, Dads got the blues
Its someone elses mess that I didnt choose
At least were winning on the Fox Evening News
Nobody loves me here
Dawn Patrol went out and didnt come back
Hug the wire and pray like I told you, Mac
Or theyll be shovelling bits of you into a sack
And whos that stranger walking in my dreams
And whose that stranger cast a shadow cross my heart
And whos that stranger, I dare speak his name
Must be old Death a-walking
Must be old Death a-walking
7 muzzle monkeys standing in a row
Standing waiting for The Sandbox to blow
Sitting targets in the wild west show
Nobody loves me here
Another angel got his wings this week
Charbroiled with his own Willie Pete
Nobodys dying if you speak double-speak
Dads Gonna Kill Me
Frankenstein - A HUMV customised with extra armour plating
Muzzle Monkey - A GI
Angel - A GI deceased
Willie Pete - White Phosphorus
Ali Baba - Any Arab
Dad - Baghdad
Mr. Thompson sings with truth in his voice , what a great singer songwriter and his vocalising is off the charts.
An extremely under-rated singer/songwriter and guitar player. A great song from one of the very best!
. . . . . you're comment is extremely underrated . . . his talent is exponential !
Just brilliant Richard and the band ❤🙏
Great anti-war song; from a greatly underarted artist.
RIP Mr. Zorn.
. . . . but he understands why it'll never end
Saw this line up in 2008 in Milan, great show I still remember clearly to this day. RIP Pete Zorn.
Pete Zorn.....Greatley underappareciated in the NOVA light of RT.....
Great Guitarist!
I love Richard Thompsen his song about to be a soldier
R.I.P Half-sack!
This is the heavy stuff.
just heard this on an old episode of SOA and did a search for wife a kid another on the way sons of anarchy and this came up - HAD TO FIND THIS TUNE WOW - how have I never heard of this group and this song it is ROCKIN' JAMMIN' STUFF of the 70s - as intense as that episode and scene were all I could focus on was the ROCKIN' tune!!!!!! gotta find this CD.
Slow comer, I just heard this on SOA. It's a very powerful song, well done.
If all of you ever listened we will not give up, the boys' will always go where they are needed mothers's will cry and fathers' wiil be proud but it will happen
I love Richard Thomson, he's so cool.
It doesn't get any better than that kids.
also thanks for writing the lyrics on the side and the explanations of some of the army terms, helped!
I saw ' 'ol death a-walking' but he never got me. And for that I thank the Lord. (It's in the lyrics).
Hahahahahaha!!!!!!! Brilliant, I'd pay to see that.
this is actually a pretty catchy song...
This sounds sooooooooo much like something Neil Young would have wrote. This is great!!!!!
Brad Jennings - sorry to take so long to reply - only just seen your comment: I cannot see how this is like anything Neil Young would write - I love Neil Young and also R T but I can't see much similarity between them - perhaps you could enlighten me - always ready to alter my position given adequate evidence. IMO just Thompson's guitar style places him in a different category; his solos are breathtaking and virtuosic - Neil Young uses the guitar as an accompaniment to his songs.
@@honeychurchgipsy6 Can't speak for Brad - but I can see a comparison in the lyrical content - the anti-war sentiment, the contempt for the powerful and compassion for the sufferings of the ordinary people under their thumb, the angry sarcasm and poignant storytelling. But yes, musically, they're very dissimilar.
@@honeychurchgipsy6 In electric mode, on stuff like "Like a Hurricane" or the *Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere* album, Neil plays passionate, fiery , and memorable lead guitar , but though Neil's gloriously primitive guitar solos suit his material well , he is not --as you'd probably agree --in the same weight class as Thompson when it comes to playing guitar. They are both tremendous songwriters, and I really enjoy Neil's guitar, but Thompson is in another stratosphere as a guitarist. Of course, there's no shame in not matching RT on guitar; he is one of the only people to have ever achieved such mastery of both the acoustic and electric guitar. What a musician!
@@paulburgess8909 - absolutely!!!
@@honeychurchgipsy6 Neil is one of those guys who is not a technical wizard or sophisticated player but beats many of those types with his excellent musical taste, note placement, instincts , and emotion. Thompson is the extremely rare technical genius with dazzling chops who also has all the intangibles of distinctiveness, originality, passion, note placement, taste ,etc. Honestly , even though the answer is obviously a combination of talent, circumstances, and lots and lots of hard work, it's still hard to imagine how somebody gets as good on an instrument as Thompson while also being able to write an almost unfathomable number of great songs that he can sing beautifully. Thompson is one of those Mozart-like figures who seems almost supernaturally talented.
Μπράβο!
Is he singing about Baghdad? Am I right?
Yes.
Dad in this song is short for Bagdad.
Yes..... The British soldier worries that being in bag "DAD" is going t kill him.....
It is an anti-war song......of very hight quality!!
@if6was929 thank you. I looked all over for who dad was, but could find nothing. I should have known. Also, where has this singer and band been all my life?
holy shit... i just heard this song on Sons Of Anarchy... it's kinda like he wrote it for that shit.... any ways great song, its gonna be in my ipod in about 2 mins! :)
Stuff from Conkers up on you tube now search for SIMMO7TS.
Was a brilliant night and a lovely location.
I typed in DEAD MEAT SACK and this is what came up.
SONS OF ANARCHY RULEZ!
блядь, что вживую, что в записи... Охуенно!!!
I'm all for it, but I just don't think the market is there for quality dead meat sacks. Oh well, good song anyhow.
@dullsvillain I'll help
One Ali Baba dislikes this.
You know, of course, that he is speaking in the voice of a soldier, not himself. He is a devout practicing Sufi
@@lokisez well said
Waste of a good guitar. Use a baseball bat instead.
