Wow - hair stood up & goosebumps for both. I never heard of Billy Strings before and was blown away by the bluegrass/folk version which had such authority. Then Nick's version was a warming comfort blanket of nostalgia. Initially I thought "Too fast" and moodiness of original was lost but soon was involved for how it was presented and more than anything left kicking myself I missed Nick's last tour.
Two very fine performances with very different characteristics. I preferred Billy Strings' Bluegrass-style performance more, personally, but both are terrific!
I googled it and Essex is indeed a town in Vermont. Billy Strings version was better to my ears, but I have no objections to either. I thought the acoustic sound suited the song much better. The piano really stood out in the Nick Mason version over everything else.
It's like trying to pick your favorite child, love them both but for different reasons. Floyd lit the torch and it's great to see Strings pick it up and carry on with it.
You gents should have gone to see Billy live in November. He played four shows in the UK: London, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham. He has a real following in the UK, so I'm sure he will be back in the foreseeable future. You are right to think that seeing Billy live is a magical music experience.
I’m not American but is VT not Vermont? Fearless is such a good song but gets lost in the amazing discography of Floyd so it was great to see someone resurrecting it and making such a damn good job of it. SOS version is great but for the shear fact that he chose to do it and helped to secure the songs future with a wider audience I will go with Billy
You two are so sweet.. love visiting this channel..🧡 I really respect the first version but my vote goes to the second one.. went straight to the heart. So nice to see Nick Mason play
Loved seeing Billy Strings again so TY Guys, OK don't forget Gravy day is coming up soon in Australia so maybe give us "How To Make Gravy " again I recommend the 2021 re release as it is done from fan videos from all over the World during Lockdowns and Paul Kelly got them all edited and gave the song a new meaning. I feel that theses songs are mood music. Both are exquisite performances. I thin it breaks down are you in the mood for an acoustic or a little bit more electric rock band. Equally good songs. What do you feel like. No right or wrong boils down to your mood
I’d out Strings’ covers against anyone in the biz. Seen him a few times. Priceless talent. Also, pretty sure the football chant was on a pre-recorded track. 👍
every song that nicks band does, sounds better than floyds version, this roundhouse concert was early in their bands life and they have improved immensely, and yet this roundhouse concert is always my go to when listening to floyd earlier work
Gonna be boring here, it's Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets for me. If I am honest, I think it's because it sounded more like Floyd than Billy Strings did. Hey, I said I was going to be boring. Don't get me wrong, I loved Billy Strings' version as well. However, I felt that Billy's backing musicians were a little too far back in the mix. I know, I know; this is because we are meant to be focusing on Billy's insane guitar skills (as we should be), however, Billy also showcased his open chord playing a little too much for me. He's a gun, and superb at it, was just a lot of it. This was so hard to pick a winner; I am happy that you didn't ask us to score both, or either of the tracks.
I would definitely recommend going to Nick’s show if you get the chance. Classy from start to finish, even if you don’t know early Pink Floyd material (as I’m guilty of). Gary Kemp was MVP in my opinion. They all did themselves proud, but Gary was the standout for me.
G'day guy's. I don't know if you know that Jimmy Barnes is in hospital with bacterial pneumonia. It has spread to his heart and he is undergoing emergency open heart surgery today
I heard that earlier today. If he needs a heart transplant, may I suggest a 454 CI big block Chevy engine. It's perhaps the only power source that can replace Jimmy's screeching highs, deep rumbling tones and fearless performance levels. It's also close to indestructible, much like Jimmy himself. Get well soon, Barnsey!

Vermont is the correct answer.

Oh thanks for the reminder
Both those versions are great. Two more versions of the song you may want to check out are by Govt Mule and Magpie Salute
Choosing one against the other the musicians it boils down to your state of mind which tune takes you on the best trip.
Both amazing but I know what you mean
I love Nick Mason's massive grin throughout.
Why wouldn’t he! Best seat in house for an amazing performance

Both superb renditions but my vote goes to Nick Mason..loved the runs on the piano subtle but adds to the song..

Almost time to "make gravy", gents. Don't forget the tomato sauce.

Thanks again, Chris. Much appreciated!!
@@sean---the-other-one Glad you enjoyed it!
who would have thought Gary Kemp eh!
I liked the Mason version slightly more because the singer enunciated well. And the crowd participation. My dad would’ve been all for Billy Strings.
