I was inspired by someone on UA-cam and I can't seem to get the idea to go away. I am no longer in school so now I have a little more time. I'm going to get my supplies together and follow in your footsteps and test my pens and keep a journal on my supplies just as you did. I am more in love with the idea than ever. When I was in school, we were required to read the bible in a year, every year. I did that and it was really great! I had a friend to discuss it with and we laughed and were inspired. Here we go and I will follow up with you from time to time. Love you for bringing me to the final point of getting started. Thanks so much. Your new kindred spirit friend.

Only just saw this. Quite an ambitious project. More power to you. I am a Jewish woman and as I am sure you know the Lord G-d told us that we are each to write out a copy of His teachings for our own self. Doing it for yourself, by hand, seems to drive the words deeper into your heart. It's been so many months since you began this journey I can't help but wonder how far you've progressed. When I am with the word of the Holy One I seem to get deeply lost in thought. In case you do not know this is the exact time of year in the Jewish calender when we complete reading the Torah (the first five books in your and my bible - the Books of Moses) and turn back to the beginning of Genesis and start again. Best of luck. 🎨♿👵 Barb Nelson

Hi Barb, glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your comments. You have enlightened me on why we should write out the bible it sure does sink in further than just reading. Where am I with it now? Well Genesis is completed and I am up to Exodus 31. Slow but steady ☺️ I've done one follow up video, that was when I completed Genesis. I will do another one at the end of Exodus. Good luck with your reading. Can I ask what bible you use? Thanks again Lyn ☺️❤️

In high school, my psychology teacher only gave us lecture notes. We didn't ever do any work out of textbooks. And he he told us all something.. he said, "if you will print everything I tell you when I do lecture, then you will remember everything I tell you and you will Ace every one of your tests with me." He was absolutely right. the only thing I write in cursive is my signature and I print everything else. So I can't imagine how much more you'll remember if you're printing when you're doing a project like this versus writing in cursive. My brother chose to memorize the bible. He memorized the nasb version and it took him 10 years. And he would sit and do memory work for 4 hours a day. I was always amazed by his ability to memorize the bible. But I like your project and I like what you're contributing and helping people get into the word. I was spiritually abused and it's been very hard for me to get into the Bible and this would be a really nice way to do it. Thank you so much for your contribution.

Hi Jenny. Thank you so much for your lovely comments. It's slow going only because I have so many things on the go at one time, but that's just me 😊 I have always written in capitals because I wasn't able to read my own writing otherwise. I have been practicing but I still prefer capitals. And yes, it sure does go in more. If I can encourage others to embrace the Bible then I am happy. ☺️❤️

I write with fountain pens, I use excellent paper so the writing experience is always smooth, and I copy the narrative at the front of book, as well. I know you've already started but can I recommend to anyone checking the comments to also keep a journal as you go to record your thoughts and feelings on your work. Not for everyone but a suggestion. Also, as a genealogist, this is something that would make me happy dance and cry if I found while searching a relative so just know these might be very valuable to a future generation.

I have been preparing for a similar project but let the busyness of life pull me away. I chose the ESV large print journalling Bible so I can make notes in it along the way, either on the original language and translation or brief personal reflections. Also chose fountain pens since my love of writing with them is what inspired me to do it in the first place.

I started writing out the Bible because I needed something to copy while I was practicing my handwriting. During the lockdown I decided to work on my handwriting, not because it was bad, I just wanted to improve it and make it look even more beautiful. Anyways, I started out with the Book of Psalms, and completed it. Then I moved on to Proverbs. When I finished that I said to myself, why not just continue on with it especially since I was discovering that it wasn’t just my handwriting that I was improving, but I was also understanding the Word in a much deeper way. So on I went and copied Romans, and after Romans I copied the Gospels, Acts, and then all Paul’s letters and all the other letters, finishing off the New Testament with Revelation. Then I went back to the Old Testament and copied Ecclesiastes, Songs of Solomon, and Job. Now I am working on the first five books. Finished Genesis, and currently I’m in the middle of Exodus. I’ve been using all sorts of journals and notebooks, and for me it was important they were fountain pen friendly since I have a substantial collection of fountain pens that keeps growing. The Pentateuch books will all be written in these journals I came across that are called the 17:18 Project. They are journals that are specifically designed to fit each book of the Bible. I am still debating whether I will be using these journals for the rest of the Bible I still have to copy, even though they were much cheaper than any of the other journals I bought for this purpose, and they are nice to have as a set. It took me less than a year to copy the New Testament. I try to write about ten journal pages per day. Sometimes I write more and sometimes less, depending on my schedule. I am an art teacher and a practicing artist, as well as a busy mom and wife, so I do my best to keep things balanced. Hopefully, with God’s help I will finish writing it all in two and a half years.

One of my teachers in high school said that writing something out greatly increases the chances of remembering it and I've found that to be true. The people who I've seen take on this project spend so much more time in their Bible than they otherwise would, which is a great thing! It also makes them appreciate the dedication of scribes who copied the Bible over and over until the printing press came along. And it's a wonderful keepsake for posterity--I heard of a pastor who wrote out the Bible three times, once for each of his kids. What a beautiful testament of faith!
