I’m from Central America, when I got to USA there was no Catholic Church nearby I was , didn’t speak English, so I just read Bible , even a Catholic one in Spanish, Jesus died ones , ones for all sin , he is the Lamb of God that take away the sin of the world
The very idea of Purgatory and the doctrines that are often attached to it (prayer for the dead, indulgences, meritorious works on behalf of the dead, etc.) fail to recognize that Jesus’ death was sufficient to pay the penalty for ALL of our sins. Jesus, who was God incarnate (John 1:1, 14), paid an infinite price for our sin. Jesus died for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3). Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 2:2). To limit Jesus’ sacrifice to atoning for original sin or sins committed before salvation is an attack on the Person and Work of Jesus Christ. If we must, in order to be saved, pay for, atone for, or suffer because of our sins, then Jesus’ death was not a perfect, complete, and sufficient sacrifice.
@@johnpreacher8749 ....Jesus was in the Old Testament concealed....in the New Testament revealed. The Word of the Lord and the Angel of the Lord in the Old Testament was the pre-incarnate Christ. The New Testament tells us Soo.....
Here's my Belief. If you were just to read the Bible....from cover to cover....no input from "Church Father's" or "The Catholic Church" you wouldn't believe in or find purgatory. Also....the praying too or asking for intercession from Mary. Jesus points us to Himself. Also when you get saved....and are strictly adhering to the Bible.... Catholicism seems counter to Scripture. I opened myself up to looking at Catholics openly. I can't find it in the Bible. Where does Jesus point to Mary or the Rosary? Just from the Bible? Also...The Holy Spirit is all powerful. He knows that alot of newly saved people are going to read and study the Scripture's. Soo why did He allow Satan to remove the Books and Scripture that leads us to Catholicism? It seems to point us away. I have to trust the Holy Spirit. I have to put all my Trust in God. Not man. See when it comes down to the Holy Bible or the Church Father's....which is the Higher Standard? That debate was completely disturbing too me. I was Soo excited to hear the Scripture's only. Where does Paul talk about Mary? Rosary? I'm still open to learn.....
Interesting points. I would say first, there are several doctrines not found in scripture; whether Tanakh or New Testament. Which is why no Jew will tell you the faith does it ever did believe in what we call Sola Scriptura. They recognize teaching that was never written down, and that’s also why they wrote the Talmud. The Church Father’s writings are majority in line with church doctrine. Some is them theorizing about things that either aren’t core to the faith or are just wrong. And the later church said so. Purgatory was believed in Judaism by many, but not all before Christ’s incarnation. There are several things I disagree with about the RCC in the last 700 years especially, but what I’ve found is most of how Catholics are practicing their faith isn’t in line with official church teaching. Is the rosary harmful in and of itself? Eh. It’s a device for originally illiterate ppl to remember certain prayers, all but one from the Bible almost word for word.

@@michellecheriekjv4115 awesome! I’ll say what you already know: God’s word over EVERYTHING. Yes Church Father’s are a blessing of insight, but their writings aren’t divine, otherwise the church would’ve made them canon.
Michelle, Yet, rather than going directly to Jesus Christ in prayer, many in the early Church sought the mediation and intercession of mere human beings like Peter and Paul, and their shadow and handkerchiefs for healing! Indeed, we are God's coworkers Holy Scripture teaches, as the prayers of a righteous person have Great power in its effects. Especially the Mother of God, she who moved her Son and Lord to perform His first public miracle, even though it was not yet His hour. Holy Scripture teaches we shall each be held accountable for every careless word we have uttered and shall each be judged as we have judged others and shall be liable to judgment if angry with others, and that we must all strive for that holiness without which no one shall see the Lord! Peace always in Jesus Christ our Great and Kind God and Savior, He whose Flesh is true food and Blood true drink

All respect to Michael.watched the debate, you very respectfully drew the line when Albrecht went to the fathers and apocrypha within a few minutes of his opening statement.he just comes across ranty and a little flaky to be honest.
4:34 ''...so the question is not Church tradition, the question is not apocryphal books, the question is just Bible...'' we are off to a bad start: At the ''Council of Rome in 382'', the Church decided upon a canon of *46* Old Testament books and *27* in the New Testament. This decision was ratified by the councils at Hippo (393), Carthage (397, 419), II Nicea (787), Florence (1442), and Trent (1546). If Catholics added the deuterocanonical books in 1546, then Martin Luther beat us to the punch: He included them in his *first German translation* , published in *1534* . They can also be found in the *first King James Version (1611)* and *in the first Bible ever printed, the Gutenberg Bible (a century before Trent)* . In fact, these books were included in almost every Bible until the Edinburgh Committee of the British Foreign Bible Society excised them in *1825* .
100% brotha. The Bible is not a book that randomly fell in complete order out from the sky. The early church guided by the Holy Spirit put books together and decided which books would go into the Bible( bible means collection of books). 1 Timothy 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
I’m confused, apocrypha books are meant for the Gnostic writings post Jesus resurrection. To claim the Deuterocanonical books are in the same category is to directly insult the Bible and the word of God.
Hi Dr Brown - I commented after your debate but as it wasn't your channel I'm posting again here. The words of Jesus himself at Luke 12:42 give us three states of punishment/reward; one is to be cut to pieces and put with the unfaithful; one is to be rewarded and put in charge of many things; and the third way, is to receive punishment, light or heavy, according to whatever we deserve. This third way sounds like a description of purgatory. Can you comment? (sorry I'm in the UK so can't call into your show)
Purgatory is biblical. Not only that Jews continue to pray for the dead. Kadish which is aramaic for sanctification is still done to this day. Look it up.
When dr. Brown debated Trinity, he called the Church Fathers “Disciples of the Apostles”, isn’t this valid anymore when the same Church Fathers commented the Scriptures about the truth of Purgatory?
The Early Church Fathers, in direct succession to Christ's hand picked Apostles to spread the word, overwhelmingly spoke about this Purgatorial realm. And the instance of the Penitent Thief, Christ did not mention the man would be in heaven, but in PARADISE. This is the same realm where Adam and Eve and "Shoal" are, not Heaven*. Christ said NO impure thing shall enter the Heavenly realm.
The problem, Dr. Brown, is that you are reading your own theology into the texts of Scripture. The real question is why is your interpretation the right one?
That’s absolutely right. Now, there’s nothing wrong about taking it upon yourself to understand Scripture. It’s quite a commendable act. But relying solely on that is, in my estimation, a rather foolish exercise. For starters: supposing that we could interpret the bible in and of itself, as one suggests per the criteria of biblicity, what difference would it make whether or not the accounts of it were, in effect, real? Considered in and of themselves, systems of paradoxical logic are perfectly valid. So why should we suppose that because your reading of Scriptures is valid, that it automatically makes it true? If not in reference to the things of the world, how are you to distinguish what is true from that which is merely valid? Truth is not to be found in scripture alone; that is a preposterous idea this “sola scriptura”. Truth is to be found at once in judgement, object and proposition. Why on earth’s would you reduce truth to the mechanical articulation of words and propositions? Why do you reckon that the Church Fathers contributed to only but a piece of doctrine each? To have your interpretation of scripture as the measuring stick for the truthfulness of doctrine really is “péter plus haut que son cul”.
I was an ex devout catholic was blind and now can see. If purgatory is real and Biblical then why did Jesus have to go thru savage barbaric beating when you can chant meaningless prayers for those in purgatory and eventually enter Heaven. If purgatory is true and Biblical then Jesus should have said “It is NOT finished.”
Love you Dr Brown but once you start going on the offense against Catholicism you’re out of your element. It is the Church of Christ established by Christ himself. Protestantism is man made and creates an idol out of the Bible. The church compiled the Bible, don’t think you know more of what’s biblical than the church that compiled the Bible.
Purgatory can be found in Luke 12.41-48, the Parable of the Faithful and Unfaithful Slaves. Dr. Brant Pitre on the Catholic Productions channel has a video called "Purgatory in the Bible" that explains this.
Purgatory is a pagan idea just like the RCC. There is absolutely NOTHING in the Bible that suggests or even implies purgatory exists! Nothing! If that were the case, why did Jesus bother on the cross? Smh
@@temporaryaccount5307 So is "Shaol"/The Bossom of Abraham, the Garden of Eden, the references to sins not forgiven in this realm but the next, reference of Baptism by fire, and other mentions of realms clearly not God's heavenly realm, but also not Hellfire, are all Pagan biblical statement? @@randolph1917 sheol means hell but for the saints that died they went there because Jesus Christ hasn't died or ressurrected yet and made a place for them in heaven. When Jesus died on the cross his spirit went to hell to preach to those that died in flood during Noah's time and take the keys of life and death from satan. Those people in sheol aren't there anymore and the sinners that listened to Jesus preaching and received the good news aren't there either. That is such a big lie Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? 42And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? 43Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 44Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. 45But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. So to say that Corinthians 3:11-15 does not at the slightest hint at the possibility of there being a purgatory is just downright dishonesty. “Either the work will receive a reward or all the work will be burned up.” You’re using metonymy, yet you treat it as if you are speaking literally. Then answer me this, who or what receives a reward? It’s clearly stated: he whose work that is built on the foundation survives. But apparently, in your reading of this passage, it’s not about rewarding the person (personal) to which the work is attributed to, but the work itself. That is already enough to put your argument to a halt. But then you go on to seemingly imply that being in purgatory has no connection with your being saved. When it is clearly stated by doctrine that purgatory is pertinent to the elect, that is, to those who are saved through Christ. Are you even discussing the doctrine of purgatory at that point?
@@tastybeetz1511, that’s the same type of rationalization people use to excuse criminals from any punishment. Hate the crime, not the criminal. Now, if the worker isn’t being tested, on what grounds is he being rewarded?
Just read Cyril of Jerusalem Catechetical Lecture 15 and he quotes 1Cor 3 regarding the testing fire. The reference is regarding Christ's second coming. Purgatory will begin immediately after death so he dosn't see this passage as a reference to purgatory.
@Marcus The Orthodox don't believe in Purgatory and have no formal doctrine on it. The only Evangelical I know today who accepts a form of it is Dr Jerry Walls. It has no doctrinal basis the only reference is prayer for the dead which also what some church fathers mention. This is why there are diverse opinions on it even among Catholics. It was because of some form of grace obtained through prayer for the dead which lead to indulgences. Luther saw the curruption and bondage this doctrine brought that sparked him to speak out.
Jonah 2:6 'To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in FOREVER. ' Was Jonah in the belly of the whale forever or an age? Is hell 'forever' or an age?
Hell in this is actually Sheol (waiting place for the dead) which is not the fire of hell that will be what death and hades are thrown into. Similar to Jesus after he was dead and buried went into the same place. So in this sense it’s temporary before the resurrection. There will be a resurrection to life and a resurrection to death and then that’s final.

Despite the fact that "scripture alone" is a false doctrine that was invented by Martin Luther, I can show you references to purgatory, even in the altered protestant version of the bible, and even more in the complete catholic version of the bible... ➨PURGATORY:. ● 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved-even though only as one escaping through the flames. ● 2 TIMOTHY 1: 16-18. Paul prays for the dead Onesiphorus. ● 1 PETER 4:6 The gospel was preached to the dead. ● 1 PETER 3:19 , Peter says that after the crucifixion and death of Jesus, that Jesus "went to speak to the spirits in prison", which means that there is a place people go to after they die that is a prison and not heaven nor hell. ● MATT 12:32 Whoever speaks a word against the son of man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will Not be forgiven, either in this world, nor in the "world to come" This implies that some sins are forgiven in the "world to come" (purgatory) ● also 1 COR 3:12-15 & more in the Catholic Bible: (2 Mace 12:46). “It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they might be loosed from their sins”
I am so amazed by the, either dishonesty of Dr. Brown, or cluelessness in dismissing the Early Church discussing purgatory as a doctrine developed Later, when it's the exact same case with the Doctrine of the Trinity, which Dr. Brown dares not deny, but was also a revealed truth developed through theological consensus among the Church, which Christ said he would be with until the end of days. If we are to be Sola Scriptura, you have to throw out yes purgatory, but also the Doctrine of the Trinity, and actually even throw into question the validity of the Bible itself, since the Bible christians use today is based off of the compiling of books by the Early Church.
I would love to hear a discussion between Michael Brown and another Jewish convert to Christianity, Mother Miriam who has a major ministry and was initially in Protestantism for something like 17 years before becoming a Catholic nun. She is an intelligent, apologist for Catholicism, though getting on in years.
The Trinity is NOT a later developed doctrine. What foolishness! The Trinity is found throughout Scripture from the very first book to Revelation. The *term* Trinity & *defining terminology* may be a later development but do not imply that the actual doctrine of the Trinity is somehow developed. No! God has revealed Himself in Scripture, not solely through the early church or any council. Also Protestants do not disregard the early church-but the early church and the Church Fathers most certainly deemed Scripture as their highest infallible authority, not themselves or a council.
@@Em.G.. Wow, look up the "Arian Heresy" darling, before trying to debate or argue with me woman. It was the Church which settled the debate, by infallibly declaring Jesus as one with God and the Holy Spirit in the Trinity. This term does not exists in scripture, and it had to be revealed, defined, and declared infallibly. This is church history, and one of the first great Schisms in the Church, as many Jews, and even self proclaimed Christians refused to believe Jesus was God, and saw him only as the "Son" of God. The Church infallibly declared Christ as one with the Father, and the Word of God made Flesh.
Not all catholics believe in purgatory. Me and my family we don’t believe in that. If there was something as such Jesus would’ve clearly mentioned it. It’s not once your dead your dead and await judgement. Your repentance before death is what accounts for. Even my local priest rejected the belief of purgatory.
Jesus Christ is God. Jesus Christ is Lord and God the Son. He accepted worship and has all the attributes of God. He is God and He claimed to be God. And we who are His, believe on Him. "Repent ye and Believe the Gospel." The Bible presents a clear path to eternal life. First, we must recognize that we have sinned against God: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). We have all done things that are displeasing to God, which makes us deserving of punishment. Since all our sins are ultimately against an eternal God, only an eternal punishment is sufficient. "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23). However, Jesus Christ, the sinless (1 Peter 2:22), eternal Son of God became a Man (John 1:1,14) and died to pay our penalty. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin. "God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Jesus Christ died on the cross (John 19:31-42), taking the punishment that we deserve (2 Corinthians 5:21). Three days later He rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), proving His victory over sin and death. "In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3). By faith, we must change our mindset regarding Christ - who He is, what He did, and why - for salvation (Acts 3:19). If we place our faith in Him, trusting His death on the cross to pay for our sins, we will be forgiven and receive the promise of eternal life in heaven. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that anyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). Faith alone in the finished work of Christ on the cross is the only true path to eternal life! "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). If you want to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, here is a sample prayer. Remember, saying this prayer or any other prayer will not save you. It is only trusting in Christ that can save you from sin. This prayer is simply a way to express to God your faith in Him and thank Him for providing for your salvation. "God, I know that I have sinned against you and deserve punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness - the gift of eternal life! Amen!" Jesus Christ entered into His own creation. He is the Jewish Messiah. JC never wrote the New Testament. He isn't the first person speaker he is the second person and he is only quoted. Sometimes it's Paul or Luke . Similar versions or copies. Your reading JC's lifestory 5 times over and each is 90% same and 10% a little different. Most of the time the NT is quoting Jewish tradition. For example it quotes Apollyon or Avadon in Hebrew or Gehenna. Hell is an NT invention. If the NT says it Christians don't question it. If I said where is it in the old testament? JC said it or the NT said it so it's good enough for me! Just typical of Christians. Obviously they accept the NT as scripture so why ask questions? If a Talmud belief is quoted by the New Testament then it has to be true is the Christian argument. Who cares if we can find a source for it?
Hell is referred to as "The Pit - Nether-world" in the old testament. Isaiah 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell , to the sides of the pit. The New Testament is written by Jews. Catholicism is the truth. The Catholic Church compiled the Bible, don’t think that you know more than the church does concerning what is biblical.
AMEN, Dr Brown, very biblical and very clear and simple, thank you LORD JESUS CHRIST for filling Dr Brown with a part of your wisdom. 🙏

4:34 ''...so the question is not Church tradition, the question is not apocryphal books, the question is just Bible...'' we are off to a bad start:
At the ''Council of Rome in 382'', the Church decided upon a canon of *46* Old Testament books and *27* in the New Testament.
1 Timothy 3:15
But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

So to say that Corinthians 3:11-15 does not at the slightest hint at the possibility of there being a purgatory is just downright dishonesty.
“Either the work will receive a reward or all the work will be burned up.”
You’re using metonymy, yet you treat it as if you are speaking literally.
Purgatory is a stretch, the work is tested and the worker is rewarded. The worker isn’t being tested.
@@tastybeetz1511, that’s the same type of rationalization people use to excuse criminals from any punishment.

If you cannot connect the doctrine to Messianic Judaism, it just isn't true.
Again, Jesus Christ teaches we shall each be judged as we have judged others . Dr. Brown says, not true!
Jesus Christ teaches we shall each be held accountable for every careless word we have uttered. Dr. Brown says, not true!
Jesus Christ teaches if we are angry with others, we shall be liable to judgment. Dr. Brown says, not true!
Holy Scripture teaches we must all strive for that holiness without which no one shall see the Lord. Dr. Brown says, not true!
Paul teaches we shall also receive recompense for the BAD we have done in the body! So sad! Peace always in Jesus Christ our Great and Kind God and Savior, He whose Flesh is true food and Blood true drink
Despite the fact that "scripture alone" is a false doctrine that was invented by Martin Luther, I can show you references to purgatory, even in the altered protestant version of the bible, and even more in the complete catholic version of the bible...
➨PURGATORY:.
● 1 Corinthians 3:12-15
12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light.
● MATT 12:32 Whoever speaks a word against the son of man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will Not be forgiven, either in this world, nor in the "world to come" This implies that some sins are forgiven in the "world to come" (purgatory)
● also 1 COR 3:12-15 & more in the Catholic Bible: (2 Mace 12:46). “It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they might be loosed from their sins”
Purgatory is also a pre-Christian Jewish belief. Check it out in the Jewish Encyclopedia.
The thing is, not all Jewish practices are aligned to Torah.
The only difference is the Trinity is supported in Scripture and purgatory is not. 🤷♂️
@@andrewoverholser491 true
And where can i read the church fathers?😔 I would like to check the claims but i dont know where?

Read "Ignatius of Antioch". He knew first hand the apostle John of JESUS.
The short answer is purgatory is very biblical. Purgatory is God's mercy at work.
"Repent ye and Believe the Gospel."
The Bible presents a clear path to eternal life.
Amen!"
Jesus Christ entered into His own creation. He is the Jewish Messiah. He is God. Jesus Christ is from everlasting to EVERLASTING. Jesus Christ is God the Son. He is Lord. Faithful and True. Jesus Christ is our Creator. God is Triune in Nature. Father, Son (Jesus Christ) and Holy Spirit. Amen. We worship a Glorified Jew. Jesus Christ. Don't do anything to be seen by man, we have an Audience of One and He is God Himself. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Amen! Read your Bible daily. I like the CSB, KJV, NKJV, NIV, NASB, ESV, NLT is good to read alongside a formal version like the KJV and the NASB.
Don't let anyone tell you that Jesus Christ isn't God. He is God. He is a Great King. Holy Lord God Almighty. God is Triune in Nature. Check out the book by Dr. James White called The Forgotten Trinity. All of scripture is fact. There is NO other Name under heaven given by which we might be saved. Jesus Christ is Lord and God. He is our Creator. Jesus Christ is God the Son. John 8:24, KJV: "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins." ... For if you do not believe that I am He you will die in your sins." Believe in and on Jesus Christ and REPENT of all sins. You're still going to sin but repent. Jesus Christ said "Repent ye and believe the Gospel." Repentance is necessary. Believe in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Believe on Him and His finished work on the cross. He nailed our sins there.
I'm an ex-Catholic. Catholics are not saved and have another Gospel. Watch Dr. James White on Catholicism.

You keep making claims about the church fathers. But your unwilling to defend those claims in another debate. The way you speak, it sounds that you read the church fathers and understands them. So it should be easy for you to take the challenge.
God bless our church fathers. What’s important is what is in Scripture though. That’s what he’s getting at.

The writers wrote as they were moved on ,by the Holy Spirit, what to write.
