- Happy Vlogmas! This is a Great Depression Era recipe for Popcorn Balls. Popcorn balls used to be a very popular treat for Halloween and Christmas. They are very easy to make and only require a few ingredients. After you make them, you can wrap them individually in waxed paper and decorate them with ribbons. They make a nice small present. Or you can fill a basket with them for a larger gift.

😋😋🍷🍷
I like the wax paper idea better than putting them in a plastic bags. Makes it look like a big piece of candy.
Hi Zoa i also like how they look wrapped in wax paper. I like my wax paper and I always have it in the house. Thank you for watching and have a nice day❤️Grandma👩🏻& Grandpa👨🍳
OMG I haven’t thought about these in a million years I used to love them!!! Thanks Grandma I’m going to make some!!!! 💚❤️💚❤️
Grandma Feril, you and grandpa are great teachers! I enjoyed this video! 🙂💖
I'm so glad! Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻& Grandpa👨🍳
@@GrandmaFeral Your so welcome! 🙂💖
This reminds me that popcorn used to be used in many ways at Christmas! My uncles would strung popcorn and cranberries for my grandparent’s Christmas tree, and popcorn balls were always made for a fun treat! Sometimes we would use popcorn to make “art”, pasting popcorn onto colored paper to make Santa’s beard! Sometimes the popcorn balls were dyed with red and green food coloring and shaped like bells. I think that nearly all children like popcorn, both to eat, and to play with! It’s a great inexpensive treat. We still like to make a bowl of buttered popcorn to eat while we watch movies at home. I wonder if other cultures like popcorn, too?!
Hi Polly Alice thank you for sharing all the ways popcorn was used. Some I have forgot about until you mentioned it. Grandpa and I also like popcorn when watching a movie. I am careful now eating popcorn since I chipped my front tooth. Thank goodness it was a small chip and fixed quickly by my dentist. I hope you are having a good day❤️Grandma👩🏻
Hey guys! Wow does this bring back memories. I remember these.. mostly getting them on Halloween (trick or treat). But once in a while I would see them at my grandparents house in green and red wax paper. Also to this day it’s not Christmas unless I have the following: Chocolate Coins, Ribbon Candy, Clear Toys suckers, fresh fish, cookies, nuts to crack, Nat King Cole and a trimmed tree. 😊
I love the popcorn balls and wish more people would get back to the old traditions… Grandma, go back to your video that Grandpa made the macaroon cookies and see I replied to you as I found the school recipe to the cookies I told you about, I put the recipe in my comment as promised for you and your audience…. Thanks for cooking Grandpa! You both have been working over time! Blessings ….. Brian
Hi Brian thank you for sharing what Christmas means to you. Also thank you for the recipe for the cookies. Interesting we will have to try making them. Yes we have been working overtime but we enjoy making the videos for all our family on UA-cam.
Thank you for your Blessings❤️Grandma👩🏻& Grandpa👨🍳
@@GrandmaFeral Grandma! I would use rice crispy instead of oat meal ….
I remember the couple who owned the A&P in town always gave out popcorn balls for Halloween every year they took the day off and had tons of popcorn balls we started at their house every year thanks for the recipe it sounds easy
Thanks for sharing this wonderful memory. Have a good day❤️Grandma👩🏻
I love popcorn balls.🥰 These looked so delicious and pretty easy to make. The wax paper and ribbon looked so pretty, like a huge candy.💞🍬
Thank you so much 🤗❤️Grandma👩🏻
Yummy! I need to try these. I LOVE POPCORN. HAPPY VLOGMAS 🌲. 5 MORE DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS
Glad you will try these. I am burning the midnight oil to get everything done.❤️Grandma👩🏻
Never made popcorn balls, but it looks so easy! I only used to string the popcorn to make tree garland with my kids. I would put the popcorn on the needle and one kid would hold the 10ft of string at the other end of the room, and the other kid would walk(or run!) the popcorn kernels down to the end! Then switch after a while! I do remember having Cut-rite waxed paper sandwich bags to take my sandwiches to school in the 50's. Thanks for this memory! God Bless! ( I still use waxed paper to this day)
Thank you for sharing how you would string the popcorn with your children. They must of had so much fun. I am never without waxed paper. I always have an extra one in the pantry. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
I love popcorn balls. That’s so easy to do. ☃️🎄🎅🏻🧑🏻🎄🍿
Hi Linda thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
Real ingredients make everything better. Thanks for sharing. What a great and simple recipe.
Yes it does! Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
We used to make popcorn balls for Halloween. I don't remember much about it because I was probably 5. Just remember the warm popcorn sticking to my hands.I don't think I've had once since but I do love popcorn, extra virgin olive oil, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper, and parmesan cheese . Thanks!❤️💚❤️💚
Hi Marty Rose thank you for sharing when you last had popcorn balls. I like the ingredients you put on your popcorn except the salt. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻&Grandpa👨🍳
Awesome!!! 🍿🍿 Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!! Yum!
Our pleasure! Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻& Grandpa👨🍳
Have a Glorious Christmas, Grandma and Grandpa.
Thank you❤️Grandma👩🏻& Grandpa👨🍳
I LOVED this video especially how to store and give out to people. I love the recipe doesn't have corn syrup too! ❤️❤️❤️
You are so welcome! ❤️Grandma👩🏻
I just love listening to you two work together. Reminds me of my grandma. I miss her so much. The popcorn ball’s reminds me of them to. Thank you 🙏
Thanks so much and have a nice day❤️Grandma👩🏻& Grandpa👨🍳
These look great! I remember making them with honey and molasses too. Thanks for the reminders.
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
I've made these but used Caramel instead of the sugar syrup, Using caramel is harder as its a lot hotter and sets as it cools. We don't have Cracker Jack in Australia but we used to make our own similar to the balls but added nuts let set flat in a tray lined with baking paper and broke it up when it set. Loved the lil present idea. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa.
Hi thanks for sharing how you used Caramel. Here Cracker Jack has been around for years. Now they don’t give a nice surprise like years ago. It’s only something with paper now. Have a good day❤️Grandma👩🏻& Grandpa👨🍳
@@GrandmaFeral I assume an American came here in the early mid 1900s and showed us that and it caught on.
I haven't made popcorn balls in many years. They look nice and they do make nice gifts.
Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
What a wonderful little treat to give as gifts!
Thank you! Have a good day❤️Grandma👩🏻
My mother made these for my brother's and I for Christmas when we were kids. Old fashioned is always the best. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure 😊 Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
Love the crisp sound of the wax paper. I think I'll go watch the picnic video with the sammies wrapped in wax paper. Thank you for this!
Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
@@GrandmaFeral No, no, thank YOU for putting these videos up. I thoroughly enjoy them.
I love your accents, too. I think we've lost the uniqueness of our local twangs. I'm told that I have a Hoosier twang (Indiana). 😊
I think you forgot the vanilla extract. Looks great though. Merry Christmas 🎄
When Grandpa took the mixer off the stove he put in the vanilla. Sorry we didn’t film it. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
@@GrandmaFeral So after the syrup boils and you remove from the heat, mix in the vanilla before adding popcorn?
Yum! Thanks for sharing! I'll have to try them! My mom used to make them. It's been probably 20 years or more since I've made some. It's wonderful to have a recipe now without corn syrup! Have a Merry Christmas! 🎄
Hi glad to hear you will be making them again after 20 years. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻&Grandpa👨🍳
Wow. It's been years since I've had a popcorn ball. That recipe is so easy and I'll try it with my grand sons. Thank you for the recipe.

Same to you! Thank you so much for watching ❤️Grandma👩🏻&Grandpa👨🍳
My great-aunt used to make popcorn balls this way to give as Christmas gifts, and I always looked forward to getting them. She wrapped hers in red cellophane. We would hang them on the Christmas tree until Christmas Day.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful way your great aunt would gift the popcorn balls. I love that you would hang them on the Christmas tree until Christmas Day. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻

These turned out nice. 🍿
I think the wax paper wrap is so much prettier than plastic bags. ♥️
We enjoyed making the popcorn balls. I use wax paper often and I always have an extra roll in my pantry ❤️Grandma👩🏻
Nice treat grandma and grandpa. Looks like fun to make. Thank your for the recipe. ❤
It was! Have a great day❤️Grandma & Grandpa👨🍳
I love these.
Thank you! ❤️ Grandma👩🏻
My mom used to make popcorn balls, but with karo syrup. She would of loved this recipe. The syrup tasted good but it was so sticky. Her arm would get tired stirring it. These look really good. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing that your Mom used to make popcorn balls. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
This brings back so many memories of being in my Mom's kitchen making these around Halloween time, my Mother would make these and give them out on halloween, she would wrap them up in cellophane paper, different colors, it was fun and a good memory love to you Grandma and Grandpa and kitties 😺❤

It's so good! Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
They look very good .... going to make these
Enjoy and thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
Im also gonna use your recipe another way im just gonna use to coat the pop corn and not make it into balls , so i can have both types as my son doesn't like the texture of popcorn balls but i bet he'd like it if the we're coat but not in balls ...
Everyone give a thumbs up 👍
Show love ❤️
Thank you❤️Grandma👩🏻
This looks so good! We used to get popcorn balls at Christmas. Can I ask, why the vinegar?
Vinegar is a natural preservative so it can help prolong the shelf life of the popcorn balls. Also vinegar has a strong flavor and it will offset the sweetness of the binding agent. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
When to add the vanilla? Looks delicious.
When Grandpa took the syrup off the stove he put in the vanilla. Sorry we didn’t film it. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
😊😋👍👍👍
Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
This year I’m making Christmas Crack as a gift. But I think I’ll do this next year 😊
I have seen a lot of people making Christmas Crack videos. It looks easy and it makes a nice gift. Have a good day❤️Grandma👩🏻

Wow this looks great can u use brown surger
Yes you can use brown sugar. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
I love popcorn balls, I don't recall seeing the point at which you add the vanilla?
Hi it was not filmed. It was mixed in when Grandpa took the syrup of the stove. Have a good day❤️Grandma👩🏻
Thanks Grandma and Grandpa.
Your welcome! Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻 & Grandpa👨🍳
When did you add the vanilla ? Thanks for the recipe.
You add the vanilla to the mixture when you take the pot off the stove. Thank you so much for watching.❤️Grandma👩🏻
maybe I missed it, but when do you add the vanilla?
We forgot to film when we added the vanilla. We added the vanilla when we took the mixture off the stove before we poured it on the popcorn. Thank you so much for watching.❤️Grandma👩🏻
Thanks! What does 'Vlogmas' mean??
Vlogmas is a holiday tradition on UA-cam in which creators post one video every day in December during the run-up to Christmas. Many videos have seasonal themes. Thank you so much for watching❤️Grandma👩🏻
@@GrandmaFeral Oh okay - thanks! my family made these 'depression era' popcorn balls - wrapped in colored cellophane - I'm making for seniors this year!
I just cannot get this to turn out. It doesn't stick together, the sugar starts drying and hardening, and ends up being like kettle corn for me.
Hi sorry to hear about the popcorn balls. I know we had to work fast when making them into the balls.❤️Grandma👩🏻
OMG. We use to make popcorn balls as Halloween treats!!!!!😋
We sure did but not anymore. We use to get Apples as Halloween treats until someone found a razor blade in one. That was the end of that treat.❤️Grandma👩🏻
