I got the 50 during their Kickstarter campaign and love it, it’s a lot more comfortable to wear than the old version and the rotating bag holds a lot more.

Great to hear, Ron! The 50L is an excellent bag. I use it often myself. - Dan

Thanks, i love my old one, but it was somewhat uncomfortable. Most other backpacks I own were much better in this regard. If they upgrade it, it's awesome. Somehow I missed the kickstartet campaign, so I have to wait till i can buy it in europe.

So you mention “overlayed videos” that show the operation, but they are missing. Is there another video you should reference to see that?

Nobody mentions the tripod suspension kit available for all MS bags. The elastic cord at the lower left corner is part of that feature. This allows you to suspend your tripod from this point at the back, and from two straps at the front, attached to the shoulder straps. This allows the pack to support the weight of the tripod, while supplying instant access without having to remove the pack.

I appreciate your in-depth reviews. I'm torn between the Rotation 34 L or 36L Backlight. I especially like the aspect of having the belt for smaller treks. I do not have any local stores to try them out and I'm a hands on person so these reviews are as close as I can get! :)

I do have Horizon. It is pretty good. It is more durable than it looks. I am used to alpine backpacks (Deuter, …). But Horizon survied many skitouring trips, even some parts with skis on the bag. Like new improvements.

Thanks for your usual thorough review, Dan. I have one of the original rotation bags. (I don't remember exactly which model.) It supported a use case that I think is much less well supported by this one. I'd welcome your comments. In that bag, the entire bag could be rated to the front of my body and the "main" compartment accessed, without setting the bag on the ground. In other words, there were two levels of access without removing the bag from your body: 1) rotating just the lower portion to the front to access that portion or 2) rotating the entire bag to the front to access only the top portion via a zippered door in the back. I'm doing a bear photography trip in Alaska in July and my understanding is that it would be highly valuable to access both the smaller portion and other parts of the bag while still wearing it. For one thing, I may be standing in water. In this particular trip, it may be OK when I need access to the upper portion to go to shore and set the bag down temporarily, but there might be other contexts in which the back access of the first generation bag would be crucial. Can you comment on this situation? Thanks!

Be nice is you actually demo'd how the waste pack rotates when its on your back. That's the entire gimmick of this entire backpack and what we all want to see.

I have the 34L and i wish they made it a little lighter by taking out those magnets and such. Also an expandable top to accommodate an additional 6 to 10 liters would have been perfect. The 50L is way too heavy for my photography backpacking needs unfortunately.

An I deal way then to carry the hip pack would be to remove the belt and add a shoulder strap for travel. When I’m evenings when you want to head out light and carry just the camera and not the backpack
