  • In our first video on Heuchera, Rosy found some vine weevil. We felt it best to turn the salvage operation into its own video and cover the ins and outs of this dreaded little bug.
Watch Rosy as she takes you through the process of saving your heuchera from the vine weevil
    menace.

Great info Rosie! I wouldn't have thought that such short, stubby cuttings would root so readily, proof of how resilient plants can be!

That's amazing, Rosie. I will be going around tomorrow gently tugging at some of the potted plants that don't look so well and see what I can find. I have three beautiful purple heuchera in the front garden where vine weevils don't seem to attack them. We have a lot of birds wandering through the garden foraging for worms and various insects so I suspect the birds are taking care of any vine weevils lurking in there. Many thanks for this very detailed look at finding and eliminating vine weevils from potted plants and getting cuttings from the remnants of the plant.

Thank you for your advice. Our Sandy soil here in Lincolnshire has a vine weevil problem they get in the primula as well. It's so frustrating I have to barrow well rotted manure in from my kind neighbours to get a decent substrate for plants to grow in. His hens keep the weevil out of the manure and I dig a decent sized hole for each plant and fill with manure but the weevil still rampage through. As you say the robin is always on hand and a hen escaped the other day into our garden and was on a vine weevil mission.

Terrific video, so informative. Can you do a similar treatment to other affected potted plants or does this only apply to heuchara

Vine weevils...arrgh! I knew what they looked like inside the stem, (when I cut them in half) but not what it looked like in the soil. I had no idea they could be such short cuttings. Now I also know what was eating my cyclamen too. Thanks!

Very educational video about vine weevils! Thank you very much! That seems like a fantastic resilient cutting soil to me! From the store? or made your own composition? Can you provide more information about this? Greetings from Belgium!

Great video Rosie. One question is what to do with the infected soil. Do you hope you’ve found all of the grubs and recycle the compost into the garden?

Very informative. Thank you for sharing. This might be what is wrong with my coral bells. Bought over 30 healthy robust coral bells a few years ago ($17 each) almost all are dead…I have 5-7 left. Super tiny- they look terrible. Zone 8b Seattle. Can’t really do anything now as I’m in a full arm and hand cast as I had major surgery 2 weeks ago and I was told at physical therapy that it will take about 3 months to relearn to use my hand.
I found your information helpful and I can’t wait to go dig in the dirt!!! I love propagating, dividing and grafting.
I never thought about the vine weevils..I thought it might be the moles? Won’t know tell I’m able to look.
    Again, Thank you!

I thought I had vine weevils in some of my pots but have now realised from watching this video that the ones in my pots are much bigger and are chafer grubs. Please can you do a video on chafer grubs because I seem to have an extensive problem with them as they are in parts of my flower beds too! I would appreciate your advice. Thank You

Fungus nats and ranunculus are my issue this year. They are like magnets and have eaten up most of them
