Question...I am a 32 yo guy, born and raised in Mexico City. I got a big concern and a comment. Why would you guys accept to lease a 1200 USD at roma norte, for a 1 bd place? Those prices are NOT wat Mexico city has been, used to be. My impression is that foreigners, unkowingly, go for those prices as if it where some sort of great deal, when leases in Mexcio are way cheaper in average. I would suggest for all foreigner to do their research and refrain from accepting such prices, because the only thing you guys are doing is ramping up the prices for the rest of us, who live on mexican currency and Mexican wages, meaning that you will gentrify our city.
I would much appreciate your take on this matter. Thank you

the Mexican government is also at fault for making it super easy for foreigners to live and work in Mexico … You think the US Government reciprocates with the same access to Mexicans in the US? Of course not! There should be massive round ups and fast track deportations for foreigners living in Mexico … especially for Americans

Request that your local government set rental price limits as law.
But I think the local government in Mexico city won't want to because it's benefitting from the gentrification through increased tax revenue and revitalization of many buildings.

Before the pandemic, I visited CDMX two-to-four times a year for business with varying lengths of two-weeks to a month. I have stayed in multiple parts of CDMX. Nowadays I typically stay in Bonito Juarez and walk to Coyoacan. I walk a few kilometers in the viveros and get a coffee on the way back before breakfast. There are many cafes in Coyoacan for lunch and dinner. I use CDMX as my base to visit other parts of Mexico as well. No matter where you go, the people and the food are the best. My Spanish is terrible because everyone I meet wants to practice English.

Accessibility is limited right now as you can pretty much only go there by car/Uber but that’s gonna change soon with the new Mexico-Toluca intercity train that will have a stop there (Estación Vasco de Quiroga) as well as a cable car that serves all four sections. People who watch this have to take into consideration that the average Mexican cannot live this life style. The average person makes about $500 usd a month or less . So they would not be able to live on this side of town. Therefore, this is a perspective from someone making US dollars, living in the very rich part of Mexico City, that not everyone can afford. Or someone who is very well off in Mexico. But Mexico is still way better than NYC! :)

Cheap for foreigners but it seems expensive for Mexicans. 50$ for gym, 1200 for one bedroom apartment...i know that apartment can be cheaper but still if you want nice looking two bedroom apartment it's gonna cost you 1000$...and for salaries in Mexico that is crazy expensive...on the other hand apartments are cheap to buy

I think we’d probably love retiring to Mexico City. The reason we will probably end up in a different city may just be cost. We are going to start in Queretaro, then also live for a few months in Morelia, Puebla, Guanajuato, Oaxaca, and San Cristobal de las casas.
We speak Spanish, don’t really want to live around a lot of expats, prefer cool weather, and have lived abroad before. We will retire before we are old enough to receive Social Security, so everything will be out of pocket for a few months and we prefer not to keep working. And my self care is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, so a good school will play a big part of our choice. Mexico City has a great school. I guess it is just the higher rent cost that may nudge us to a different city. Thx for the great videos !

Please reconsider moving to CDMX given the higher prices due to foreigners, especially Americans moving in. This is a prime example of gentrification, and although people here will probably be nice to you they are also being directly affected by people from richer countries directly raising prices of everyday life and pushing rent higher than locals can afford. Thw funny thing is that most people moving here are the ones that complain of immigrants in their own countries. Food for thought

I just love how well you both expressed yourselves while explaining the different advantages of living in Mexico on a personal note. Obviously not everyone has the same experiences, but it doesn't hurt to try something different. Best of luck to you guys! I'm proud of your accomplishments. From a Mexican1st, then American.

they talked just about advantages but no disadvantages . Obviously this naive couple never put their noses out of their fancy Roma Norte and never really took a ride in "good" subway (cheap though). Just pathetic.....

Mexico City is amazing! I originally intended on relocating to CDMX during 2020, but I opted for Merida due to the uncertainty of the pandemic. I ended up visiting CDMX last August for the first time and fell in love. Now that I've established a home base in Merida, I hope to spend more time in Mexico City when it gets too hot Merida.

The cheapest flight going out of Merida is CDMX, it is easy to go there for the weekend if you buy your plane tickets one or 2 months prior.

Just for general knowledge, if you live in Mexico, probably you’re not just as a tourist, you’re an inmigrant (not an Expatriate) and you should pay taxes in Mexico too! 😅 and of course get your papers in order for avoiding living as an illegal! 😂

@@juanuribe54 there’d a reason why Mexico stayed open during the pandemic. They rely heavily on tourist dollars. What do most people do for their own community when living in their native born country? The answer: not much. We can all donate and volunteer to organizations that resonate with us. Do you ask Mexicans living in the US what they do for their community? We are a global world.

@@LaurenIrick “illegal Mexicans” contribute so much to the US and yet white Ukrainians with colored eyes are waltzing their way into the US on refuge but Hispanics are still waiting (YEARS/DECADES) until their case is heard and Ukrainians never paid a tax dollar in the US in their entire life. Tell me how that makes any sense. You live in Mexico right now?

    • @LaurenIrick
      @LaurenIrick 2 роки тому +1

@@juanuribe54 i never said illegal Mexicans. Question applies to those that immigrated, have visas, or may be staying illegally. Yup. Currently in Mexico learning Spanish. Learning about culture, shopping locally, interesting as much as possible. I donate to various organizations of all types. (One recently was Mexican) so my life is about the same community wise which still asks my question “what are Mexicans in the USA doing for “the community”” or “what do you expect expats to do?” I certainly don’t expect Mexicans moving to the states to do anything additional. It’s a global world. Also, being a refugee is quite different than wanting to move. Sweden, Germany, and Lebanon are all going to take refugee status before they take me.
