Its been years since I had a car running sides. The last one I had was a 1800 mk1 golf, 276 cam, head job and branches. Took on many sixes with that thing. Eventually ended up tearing the floor and selling. But for those that are interested in doing this, its cheap power, needing an occasional adjustment. A engine fitted and jetted proper should be smooth, with the only thing you should be hearing is a slight sucking sound per cylinder. As for the linkage, Dave Ingel in Pinelands manufactures a proper linkage for these, and its cheap. Or else contact Motodrive and ask for Roley Stanton, he will be able to provide intakes etc.
A few days ago i watched a video where sidedraughts were fitted to a abf 16v. The guy cranked the engine about 7 times before it started. I have driven a few cars where it was either refitted with a 36dcd or 40/45 sidies. And never struggled to start even in winter time
I'm interested in the side draft, where can I get them. I'm based in Limpopo(Marble Hall), I'm currently driving a toyota tazz(with a 4age 20v blacktop swap). The 4age has be converted to a carburetor, it now uses a 2e asian carburetor and a distributor. So I'm looking for full performance with the carburetor conversion. So I need some advices on how to improve the performance.(I also forgot to mention; I'm having flat spot with my carburetor).
hi in the uk this was a popular conversion in the vw scene ....but the craze died out with under bonnet fires please take on my advise and tell matey to keep a small powder extinguisher on board ...just to be safe dcoe's can spit without filters ...nice set up btw ;-}
nice job on those webers budy I have a set 40 webers was wondering if u could take a look at mine and if u could fit it on my 1.8 carburetor jettas if possible with a 2.0L crossflow head with a 288 cam and how much will u charge me or if u have any contact details that I can reach u on plz......garth
this is something I heard people say a lot. fortunately I have not experienced it my self or know anyone who had. it can happen if the installation is not done properly and if the carb leaks. the carbs are above the exhaust so there are chances of fire always.
