The joke is that they're a guitar/drum duo. They didn't include any other instruments for a lot of their early albums actually
the funny thing is they never hated each other, and actually said no to a lot of money because they wanted to take a long hiatus and do other things, before getting back together.
But I seriously love the idea that they did hate each other, and only made up because of the money they could make. Very few bands in real life would be that transparent about it, even if it was true. God I love these guys

I live in the middle of Akron and Canton. The rock scene here is in shambles, I found The Black Keys in 2010 as a freshman in high school. You two are legends and one of my top inspirations from my area.
I love the black keys and their sense of humor.
Certain things happen to reaffirm that life is good........new music from The Black Keys is one of these things. THANKS GUYS!!!
Still have a broken drumstick which I caught at a concert in Hamburg, 2012. Patrick was hitting the drums like they owed him money, so it flew all the way to me in the first row :D

Released on my 23rd birthday. A good detail from one of my favorites bands, it's wonderful to see them working together and making good music again.

My father is pushing 80...we have a bond that allows us to go months without speaking or visiting one another...and when we do, it's like we were never apart. Ahhh the algorithm... I went from a study on Joy Division and Ian Curtis to a link to the Black Keys all-the-while being a Detroit native and having Jack White make his way into my heart as one of the best for the past 25+years.
How does this all work?
I grew up poor with a daddy from appalachia and a mommy from equally poor western kentucky in the rolling mountains. They met here somewhere between 12th street and corner of 16th and selden where mom lived. Moms school buddy happened to be dad's younger half brother. When dad seen my blonde mom at around, uh, how 'bout I just say 18, uncle Darrell introduced them and then I was born a little while later. Dad came to michigan in 1964 after his dear mother died of cancer and he refused to work in the mines and "look 70 years old when these fellers were just 35".
Dad worked in the cold storage industry in a big plant here in Detroit directly behind and over east 1 block from the famous train station. He put in his 30 years and ended up on disability with the same lung illness as if he had worked the mines. It was may 1991, dad got caught in a confined area and took in 3 whole breaths of pure anhydrous Ammonia NH3 used as a refrigerant to this day in many plants and ice hockey rinks across the country. Ammonia in this form is stored under pressure because it boils at neg 32°F if I remember correctly. Under pressure it's still a liguid and handled as such thru pipes and pumps and storage tanks. When released to the atmosphere from even a tiny leak it immediately is discharged as a colorless toxic gas. That's how dad got caught in a confined area and breathed it, he went in to check equipment like his job demanded over his past 30+ years of life. Burned his lungs to the point of $3000 per month meds, hospital bed, wheelchair and walker, 24hr oxygen for the last 25 years of his life. I took care of dad during these times as I was a single child and mom had left us both when I was 4. Growing up was just dad and me. Before you get the wrong impression I was never kept from my mom and we were close and still are today, but I spent a month in summer with her growing up in school. I don't want to explain this part of the situation more than I already have, but I'll just say my dad was my father and best friend till his death. My mom is my dear mother and I don't know what I'll do when I lose her as she is 73 now and has cancer. She lives in kentucky 500 miles away and always has for pretty much my whole life. This is just the way things are and we are all ok with it now. Hope that helps to explain things..
Ain't it crazy how a little search and study on just one song and performer or artist group can turn into feelings you felt when you were very young which makes you look more into such a thing then end up spilling your whole life story on the internet in just one single thread?
Love will tear us apart by Joy Division has always had a special place in my heart since I first heard it around 1983. I needed to refresh my memory of the song and the story of Ian and taking of his own life is still haunting to this day.
As many times as I might have been on a similar thought path I must say right now at 54 years of age, Please please don't go that route. There Are most certainly people who love you, if you think you feel that way I can honestly and truly say right now that I Love you and I respect you and I want you to stay and talk thru it all with me or any other millions of people who would be glad to talk with you at any time day or night.
