Big thanks to Jose and Marco for their incredible insights and updates on Rivian's charging network! Check out their pages here below: Jose (RivianTrackr): riviantrackr.com / www.youtube.com/@riviantrackr Marco (RANTracker): x.com/RANtracker
So happy about this finally!!! Thanks for the thorough content. 12 more in the US pending to open. We own an R1T and an Ioniq6. There's a lot of RAN chargers in North Carolina and Virginia so this helps me in the Ioniq6.
It's great to see, anything like this is always welcome. However, their small number of stations and shared power structure of those existing stations, where 3 stalls share 300kW, meaning you only get 100kW if 3 EV's are plugged in, doesn't make that big a deal. Hopefully, they'll improve on that in the future, like they are doing by splitting power only between 2 stalls, so they can make a profit on it just like Tesla does on Superchargers, and help their bottom line.
While the overall number of stations is small, they tend to be located away from the interstate highways, in areas where the public charging infrastructure is limited. Even in cases where there is a public charger nearby, I like having the peace of mind of knowing that there are multiple backup options I can go to to charge, just in case. When you pump gas, you're never in a situation where you are entirely dependent on one single gas station to the point where if you get there and they're down, you will run out of gas. It shouldn't be that way with EV charging either, and the opening of Rivian Adventure Network will help quite a bit with this, even if they end up being used mostly as backup.
Joshua Tree CA is 12 Minutes from Yucca Valley, which has multiple charging options including Tesla, also 18 minutes from main Park entrance in 29 Palms, also multiple charging options including Tesla. 34cents per kWh in Joshua Tree slightly higher than 29 Palms which at 30 Cents per kWh is average for CA.
There other chargers, including a Tesla Supercharger just a few miles away in Yucca Valley and a Supercharger in Twentynine Palms. I don’t plan to get a Rivian vehicle but happy to see them build these stations.
Is Amazon going to open gas/charging stations? Rivian going to be offered through Amazon? The delivery vehicles are Rivian…can I add this to my Prime account?
Opening ONE NEW station with different hardware is a far cry From announcing software updates to existing stations to other OEMs. There is no official announcement from Rivian stating they are updating software on existing stations with older hardware to allow other OEM access. Big disappointment from Rivian.
Both Rivian and Tesla need to decide whether they’re a network for their EV buyers or a network for everyone. Treating other EV owners as some kind of second class “guest” isn’t going to work well long term. Tiered pricing based on brand ownership won’t be competitive for long.
Partially it's because researching and supporting non-native vehicles has its own engineering costs. Also installing infrastructure to support more dispensers isn't linear, especially when planning for peak demand and stress to the chargers (think supporting a variety of high and low voltage vehicles). Yes some is marketing, some is government funding, but some is to keep a good and consistent amount of traffic while this is all new. I'm sure this will change over time, but in a way it's an intentional way of doing a soft rollout over the next few years. Think of your local grocery chain that has gas stations. They incentivize their shoppers through gas discounts and treat shoppers from other grocery chains as second class "guests". Whether you and I like it or not, tiered pricing on its own won't cause enough backlash for competitiveness because being an EV supercharger company is not their sole purpose. It's a lever they can pull to assist their main vehicle business.
@ That may have made sense ten years ago but not so much now and into the future. Most Rivian and lots of Tesla charging sites have had very low utilization. Profitability will require high utilization and/or sales from colocated businesses. Attracting EVs regardless of the brand is the future. Ultimately it comes down to location and price.
everything needs to have been opened yesterday. its a small network with not enough usage to support. one of the many idiotic things rivian continues to do.....
If you want rivian haters, just like tesla Haters. Do like tesla have exclusive chargers and for your non exclusive chargers charge out siders more. Us government needs to step in and regulate discriminating chargers. All puplic chargers should be for all public for the same price.
@@EpicDrew15 No, but the same pricing for all vehicles in each market. The cost of energy varies in each state and even at the time of day. But for different brands at different locations is rather ridiculous.

Ha ha the intro threw me off. I thought my headphones we're working. Great video!
At the end I thought an alarm was going off on my dryer. 😂

Exciting!!!! Super stoked so much going on all at once. Will love to charge at RAN in the future. Thx for the video. I enjoyed watching.

Wondering how this helps with getting federal funding, if it helps, it’s best to start before this funding goes away…
They kinda had to since they don’t have a lot of trucks on the road.

Experts referring to kWh as kW. Sad!

Baby steps…movement in the right direction.
