Hear about her arresting and moving new film “Arrival,” directed by Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario,” “Prisoners,” 2017’s “Blade Runner” sequel), in which she plays a linguist challenged to communicate with aliens who have an important message for mankind teetering on the verge of global war. Don’t miss this chance to hear about her work, her moving and poetic role in “Arrival,” opening November 11. She also stars in Tom Ford’s “Noctural Animals, opening November 18, and on November 28 she will receive the actress tribute at the 2016 IFP Gotham Awards.

It took you a lot longer to fall in love with Amy than it did me. All that red hair. Yes, I'm hopeless . . . hopelessly in love with Amy Adams.

so I am the only recent comment on this site....still reeling in disbelief that she didn't even get nominated for either Arrival or Nocturnal Animals; I have not heard any explaination yet how that could have happened; WTF?? Not even Nominated for Arrival? Are you freakin kidding me? The "Academy" has no comment? I am from her home town in Colo and we are all just livid.....I mean actually losing sleep over this ......

scott FabT-Birds79 the academy represents itself, period. In film, American films in particular, there is "industry" and there is "filmmaking". These might as well be two different universe but in order to make a film you have to be part of the industry, and the industry, in this case, the Oscar's, is driven by numbers. Not because it's shallow and corrupted, but because it's trying to survive. Just like anything and anyone else on this planet. Amy, Jake Gyllenhaal (who was actually declared 'the best actor of our generation' earlier this year by a very serious, professional critic and rightly so), Joaquin Phoenix, Ezra Miller, all of those actors and more had been left out of the run repeatedly over the years. Not because they're not talented, but because they are all making choices that are not compatible with the academy's requirements because the focus in those movies is on human experience, and they're made for communication purposes and not for impressive bank reports. And the academy is not ready for it. So, not winning, in most cases, actually says something very possitive about the cast and crew of that film. It means they created something real. And we need real noadays.

Wow.....what a great reply to my query! You just very concisely stated the reality of it all;.. You sound like a professional film critic yourself....this is one of the most articulate comments I've ever seen on YT.....Good job! (most UA-cam comments just seems like a bunch of buffoons) So what is your name in English? What country are you in? I grew up in the same place that Amy did, in south Denver Colorado, and I knew her in the 90s when she was working at all the dinner theaters here; I was in two plays with her....I knew she was going to make it when she moved to Hollywood....She really should have won for "The Fighter"; I agree with your list of actors, especially Jake, (but you know that Joaquin is an absolute nutcase, right? He is comlpetly bonkers, but he sure can act!

    • @weasley2o13

scott FabT-Birds79 thank you for your compliments. My name is Hagar, I'm from Israel and I am not a professional film critic myself, no. I've just watching and studying film for 24 out of my current 25 years (and still watching roughly two movies a week if not more). I disagree with your comment about Joaquin, if I may. I am more then obsessed with his brother and even written a main character in my novel based on him, and as someone who knows River very well, I can tell you that he and his brother shared a very deep, very emotional and above all-very loving connection. Joaquin was the one who found river and called hysterically to 911, trying to rescue him. He was only 19 at the time and the media just actively tortured him by releasing the recording of the 911 call all over the news, breaking into his brother's casket (that is as real as it can get, by the way, please confirm my words) and taking pictures and practically not giving his family any time or space to breathe and process what had happened to their boy. So no, Joaquin is not a nutsack, he's very deeply, painfully, wholeheartedly post traumatic. You never see a person in his private moments, so you must never judge. Hope my comment didn't offend you. Thanks again for the feedback. It means allot.

scott FabT-Birds79 thank you again. We actually have comic books and even comics conventions here in Israel, they're just more of my dad's thing. I learned to read and wright at the age of three and I haven't stopped since. I would love to send you my novel but it will take a very long time to translate if it'll happen at all. Let's see if people would be willing to publish it first, if so, I'll translate it myself. As for River, he didn't care about the money and he hated being chased for his physically unnerving beauty. He WAS an addict. He started using Heroine on the set of My Own Private Idaho because his character used it. The sexual scenes with men and women scared him because he was naturally very shy and introverted, and touch made him uncomfortable. He might have been gay, but I never checked because it doesn't matter. He acted because he was a seeker. He always wanted to go deeper and deeper until he fell down a pit out of which he didn't know how to climb back up. So yeah, he was an addict, and he was an angle and everyone loved him but no one really did. Everybody saw he was in pain and they did nothing. He was bright and he definitely was not stupid, if he were he might have been here today because this world was too much for him and he didn't know how to ask for help. He was not spoiled nor intitled, and he was a vegan who refused to use lethear in a time when it wasn't "cool" or "trendy". Joaquin is a vegan and animal rights activist because of his brother. In his name.

Hagar; But this statement confuses me; because many times Oscars have been given to actors and films that didn’t do any big box office $$ many times some little indie films have been in there;.. Sideways, Juno, and Amy’s’ Junebug…I disagree that the Oscars base their nominations on box office $$ totals….
OK so I said that about Juaquin ( I was not aware of the toll his brothers' death took on him) ; because of his “Andy Kaufman” antics (meaning “is this for real or what?) Nobody likes deception.....
like when he was on David Letterman with this full beard and proclaimed that he was leaving acting to become a rapper….well, he never once indicated that was a joke or parody; he said he was serious for like two years, until he started acting again….and it was all bullshit;……. normally actors never say anything bad about each other, but he has pissed off so many of his peers….Amy won’t comment on him, ....Josh Brolin on Letterman just went on a rant about how Juaquin is just this very confused person who never will just be himself, because he doesn’t know who he is, so he just pretends all these different personalities , he can never just be sincere and honest about anything…(I read many things that said the same thing about Jim Carrey, and he has admitted that he is on meds for psycho problems) so yeah you can say its PTSD, but still…I just don’t feel sorry for him; He was very publically really pissed off when Reese Witherspoon won the Oscar for their movie “Walk the Line” (Johnny Cash) and he got nothing; Yes I think he was ripped off by “The Academy” but it is the unwritten rule of Hollywood that you don’t go after co-stars that won when you didn’t……..

You know, something interesting: This was the day after the Trump election. The interviewer is clearly upset by it, if her all-shook-up attitude at the beginning is anything to go by.
And yet, Amy's very chipper and cheery, and talking about dreaming about *hugging* everybody after the results came in. And considering the mischievous look in her eyes during the interviewer's opening antics (0:38)...was our princess subtly TROLLING her, with that dream description?
    I'd love to think so!
