  • Rape has never had a universally accepted definition, and the uproar over "legitimate rape" during the 2012 U.S. elections confirms that rape remains a word in flux, subject to political power and social privilege. In Redefining Rape, historian Estelle Freedman describes the forces that have shaped the meaning of sexual violence in the U.S., through the experiences of accusers, assailants, and advocates for change. Through narration of the victories, defeats, and limitations of reform efforts, Freedman demonstrates that our definition of rape has depended heavily on the dynamics of political power and social privilege.

It is absolutely important to distinguish between the anti rape movement and the definition of rape. Recommended for students of Gender relations, women and politics.
