  • Record high food prices have triggered a global crisis that will drive millions more into extreme poverty, magnifying hunger and malnutrition. There has been no better time to start a Victory garden.
Victory gardens, also called war gardens, were vegetable, fruit, and herb gardens planted at private residences. Not only will it save you money but will be healthy for you too.

Hey, good useful video; something that many of us can duplicate to a greater or lesser extent. I’ve read if you could just plant one crop it should be sweet potatoes due to the nutrients and yield. In addition to the fruit, when planted on the perimeter of your yard blackberries make an excellent security barrier. I like your raised beds that look like stock watering tanks; I’ll have to do a web search to see if something like that is available on this side of the Atlantic. Will you be doing and canning and pantry stocking?

Perfect looking gaden that fella!. Been growing my own for 10 years now starting in small spaces, or 'gorilla gardening' in quiet public places, but now have a large allotment and I'm increasing my wildfood knowledge. Even bringing weeds home that my customers (im a gardener) want digging out or cutting down! Charles Dowding's yt channel is absolutely fantastic for space saving/multi-cell sowing and been my greatest inspiration on garden side of things (whether or not you would follow his no-dig method, he advises on so many other vital things)

Glad the move went well mate. The garden growing looks amazing! You aren't mad for what you've been doing...as a matter of fact, you are a legend for doing it. You'll have to let us know when you planted up each of these crops...give us an insight as to when to grow, what we can get away with at different times of year, storage tips for the crops etc. Love this video heaps, we need to learn more on how to do this and take the power back to us consumers. Got some seeds for next year, lettuce, carrots, chives, French beans and a couple of others, got mint and lemon thyme in pots, rosemary in the front garden and next year, there'll be many more seeds to try next year

Had my own four product produce garden going on since 2012, potatoes and beans are vitally important, and I grow herbs indoors. I also keep note of where wild edibles grow within walking distance of my home, and every fruit tree.
Its often said among the preparation community that abundant gardens can attract dangerous individuals who consider themselves to be "predatory", but if you havent factored the occasional threat into your home and family defence scheme, (and learned a few basic butchering skills along the way) you deserve everything thats coming your way. A local bloke at my local archery range told me a few years ago that he would "just come and take" my stuff if and when the time came, and I told him that he'd be welcome to do so.
There'll also be a shortage of dog food, like.

What people don't realize, all the grains based foods. That we've been eating are last years harvest. We are just getting started here and it's not looking good. Wheat had jumped up over $11 a bushel. The ranchers have culled their herds back as far as they can. So the amount of meat isn't what it was. I think we're going to start seeing prices go up next month.
The damn deer and grasshoppers are feasting on my garden. They are eating everything but my spuds. I'll be lucky to get a tomato from a half dozen plants. I do know there will be VENISON in the freezer tho.

I love canning and at the moment the last few years people are not interested in doing so. I have been able to buy loads of jars rings and other equipment to make canning successful very cheep as people dump their collection to make room for stuff as the older generation finds the new age influencer is not worried about food storage. Some people will thrive later in years I believe. Who really knows however I say how do you wanna spend your time is our own business and those who share like minds get it. those that do not well their opinion is part of the balance of things.

Nice little garden there. Check out Green Stalk plant towers. I bought two for strawberries. I don't particularly like the varieties of bush beans offered so we made two arbors using 4×12 ft. cattle panels, t posts, and metal clips for pole beans. The best ones to me are Rattlesnake and Kentucky Wonders. From one 20 ft. arbor, I canned 134 quarts of beans. We usually plant around 200 Big Boy tomato plants. It takes around 22 pounds to can 7 qts. Big Boys are large tomatoes..one pound plus. I live in the Southern U.S. and we have a long growing season so that helps. I've planted a few tomatoes, peppers, celery, potatoes, and green onions thus far ...as of April 10th. We usually plant potatoes in early spring and late summer as well as late tomatoes. Okra is a biggie as well as squash, cowpeas and corn. I also have 11 chickens so I get a gracious plenty of eggs. 😊 Happy victorious gardening.
