- A video highlighting Tim Duncan's best plays of the 2003 Finals vs. the New Jersey Nets. Duncan's talents were on full display in this series showing the world that he was without a doubt THE premiere player in the league. Scoring, rebounding, passing (including leading multiple fastbreaks like a PG) and dominating on defense en route to winning his 2nd of 3 Finals MVP's.
The greatest power forward of all time at his peak
Tim duncan has no control over the era he played in out of all the players you mentioned none of them have the resume tim duncan has and he is still adding to it and even at his advanced age is still a huge contributor to his team to this day
The timing, the court vision, where he stood and how he knew what to do in every play, the hunger to win, even some hoops which of course gradually lost as the effects of his injury became more apparent, 2003 Duncan had it all. According to basketball-reference no other single player, including Lebron James, has made more for his team during the playoffs to win a championship in the history of the league.
The NBA will never be the same. Thank you Tim Duncan.
This 2003 team of San An was so good. It didn't matter if they played the Pistons or Nets because I knew they were gonna win it right from the beginning. Every game was a 6 game series. Tim Duncan became the 3rd player to win league and NBA Finals MVP behind Shaq and MJ something LeBron will never do.
watching tim duncan and david robinson play together is a thing of beauty. And all this time later, old man river walk is STILL making young guns look silly. I hope my favorite player of all time gets his 6th ring this year.
Duncan is top 5 ever. Idc idc idc
jmaal2345 Yes Sir!
Your correct
Yessir. I got him sitting right at 5
the thing is, when you watched Tim play, you would always notice the impact first and foremost, whether he ended up with amazing stats or not. There's a clear difference between someone who compiles stats, and someone who gets stats through impacting the game, and Duncan was most definitely the latter.
Tim Duncan at this point in his career was insanely great. Look at these highlights. He is controlling every single facet of the game. His defense is impeccable, his offensive game so complete, his court vision and passing rivals that of top point guards, his leadership is off the charts. In an era of too many one dimensional offensive players, Tim truly he is one of the 10 best to ever play..
Top 3 in my opinion
@@Mateo.7777 p
His passing is underrated. If he played in this fast paced era today he’d average 5-6 assists a game
When people say Anthony Davis > Tim Duncan 😭😭😭😭
Best in my opinion.
It really should be
PG: Magic
SG: Jordan
SF: Bird
PF: Duncan
C: Chamberlain
Yeah..... No
Switch Lebron for Bird and Kareem for Wilt
I would switch Kareem for russel
Curry
Jordan
Lebron
Duncan
Shaq
At thier peaks.
The quality of this video starting at 6:04, it looks like this game took place in the 80's.
timmy just got 27 pts after a decade. lol..
PG - Magic
SG - Jordan
SF - Bird
PF - Duncan
C - Kareem
This performance is so overlooked...
You forgot about Robinson, who actually played this series... His career was plagued by an injury that brought Timmy to the Spurs. He was rookie of the year, MVP, got a scoring title and DPOY, 2 rings, bunch of all star appearences up untill the injury, and he is HoF... I'd go with Robinson/Duncan/Olajuwon/Jordan/Magic... Just for the lulz.
Duncan was a PF, hakeem center.
flood warning cause them shots wet af
The 2003 playoffs were pure brilliance by Tim Duncan. The Spurs had a good squad but individually weren't the best players you'd pick for a championship team. It was Robinson's last year and it showed, Parker was just 20 years of age and didn't even play the deciding quarter against the Nets. Ginobili was injured and even during the playoffs was still adjusting to the team's style of play. Jackson was their second best player but couldn't rely on him too much because of his personality and the way he conducted himself on and off the court. The rest were mostly players past their primes and obviously couldn't contribute much if it wasn't for what the others could do, role players through and through. It was also a time when the western conference was superior to the eastern one, there was not a single series that they could just rest (all played for the first time to 4 games) for the next one, faced the defending champion Lakers with both Shaq and Kobe in their primes, the best defense in the league in the Nets and they beat them all in convincing fashion. If you watched this series only you'd think Kenyon Martin was just a good player while in reality he was considered one of the best emerging PFs in the game, and he got no chance against Tim. Don't get me wrong, I love Parker and what he did to the franchise, but to this day, and I think he does too, I wonder what would've happened if they landed Jason Kidd for the next season.
timmy in his prime..... beast
duncan was bad man and still is
Lets not forget Luke Walton. He is the crucial key for a warm bench.
I love u
Basketball was still developing back in those days. Honestly you cant compare any of those to Tim Duncan. Have you watch TD's agility in this video for such a big man?
PG Magic--SG Jordan---SF Bird---PF Duncan---C Hakeem
You obviously have no idea how athletic and mobile Kareem used to be in his peak years. He also brought WAY more value to the defensive side of the court then Shaq.
Feeling great, Spurs swept 2 teams in this years playoffs. Next on the bucket list is destroying miamia heat, well thats if they stop struggling against an amateur team. I laugh every time I think about miami sweating over the pacers. I count at least 10 blocks from tim duncan on wade and james. How you feel now?
Lebron looks like he about to do it.
Duncan still got them moves though.😴😴
You're forgetting about Reed (1970), Kareem (1971), Moses (1983), Bird ('84 & '86), Magic (1987) & Hakeem (1994).
LeBron James just accomplished this feat a few days ago.
Hakeem gets no love here?
@TheRody12 EXACTLY
@moviehypno23 I don't agree with Shaq being there either but at least he's a Top 10 player.
PG Nash---SG Jordan---SF Bird---PF Duncan---C Shaq
@lagosdre oh also...ginobili and parker are ALWAYS mentioned in the greatest player of all time conversation lol like kobe is...( although i think ginobili SHOULD be considered a top player, not best ever, but certainly has put in the work to deserve more recognition than he does)
and you're making a comparison?
@elmagicomessi Ok,
4x NBA Champion
3x NBA Finals MVP
2x NBA Most Valuable Player
NBA Rookie of the Year
13× NBA All-Star
9× All-NBA First Team
3× All-NBA Second Team
All-NBA Third Team
8× All-Defensive First Team
5× All-Defensive Second Team
NBA All-Rookie First Team
NBA All-Star Game MVP
Naismith College Player of the Year
2× ACC Player of the Year
HOW THE HELL DOES HE NOT BELONG IN THE TOP 10?!
Man could David Stern have sounded less excited there? I don't think so.
@LakersDynasty42 let's not forget, Shaq over Kareem or Russell? C'mon
Also the these finals ratings mustve been so trash no one was trying to see this
He should've had a quadruple double because they didn't count the two blocks.. smh why did they get that wrong
Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli... thats just unfair...
Um, Robinson was old as dirt, Parker was only in his second year, and Manu was a rookie. This group isn't as talented as it seems. Duncan CARRIED this 2003 team.
This was the end of Robinson's career and just the start for Tony and Manu. Tim Duncan was the man on this squad.
joeykiller this year Tim carried the Spurs to the finals and through them as well. The best all time stat line ever for a finals MVP imo. 24-17-5 and 5 blocks.
joeykiller yea I know! And lets not forget Stephen Jackson coming off the bench!
Anthony Domingo you're absolutely right! Pop benched Tony Parker for speedy claxton because of his poor play, Duncan Carried the team
No. I'll take Shaq, Kareem, Russel, or Chamberlain over him any day of the week.
@LakersDynasty42
still
Shaq >>> tim
@elmagicomessi Your ignorance is astonishing.
good player but still way way way below Shaq's level
he can't be in top 20 of all time
Lol
I can't wait for nba2k18, we get this version of Tim Duncan rated at 98 on the Spurs all time team!
if you're going for the best team, rather than just picking the best players of all time for that position, i'd put pippen instead of bird. you don't really need extra scoring with jordan on the perimeter, kareem and duncan inside and magic feeding them the ball. pippen can space the floor too plus he's a much better defender.
GOAT?
Ben Arnao He's up there.
Tim Duncan is a true champion a decade later and he still dropping these stats
Duncan needed to be reported to social services this series, he absolutely abused Kenyon Martin
PG-Magic, SG-Jordan, SF-Bird, PF-Duncan, Center-Bill Russell...that team would never lose...talk about a dynasty team, this team would be sick...bench players would be Isaiah, Stockton, kareem, wilt, oscar, west
With Jordan on the team being the primary offensive weapon I think bird would space the floor out better than LeBron, (bird more of an outside threat...). That being said Lebron and Jordan together, what a pain in the ass that would be for any team to deal with.
Indeed
#Thankyou21 #TimDuncan21 #19yrs #spurslegacy #5titles #2xMVP #3xFinalMVP #15xAllstar #BestPFever #spursforlife #GoSpursGo
2-time league MVP Tim Duncan had an amazing 2003 playoff run avg 24.9 ppg 15 rpg 5apg and 5bpg(in the deciding GM vs New Jersey nets he'd had 21 pts 20 rebs 10 asst and 8 blks(2 blocks short for a quadruple double)
I actually meant to put Hakeem. Their names sound so similar, I typed Kareem while thinking "Hakeem," lol. Yeah, Hakeem had virtually unstoppable offensive skills and defensive skills. That team I listed above is truly a LOCKDOWN defensive team, that could also score in buckets at will.
What separates Duncan from any other power forward in NBA history....Go to 3:29 and watch him snag a rebound after contesting a Kenyon Martin drive, then he leads the fastbreak himself, and finally, he throws a picture perfect bounce pass on the money to a cutting Ginobli for a layup. Truly remarkable stuff from a 6'11 power forward/center. The only guy that was probably capable of doing that at that size was Bill Russell back in his day. #TheBigFundamental
Props for knowing that Bill Russell and Duncan were the same size while playing the game (Duncan often mistaken for a "7-footer") :D
Giannis does that too. He's got a ways to go to catch Duncan for best PF, but if anyone can do it, it's him.
"Tim Duncan became the 3rd player to win league and NBA Finals MVP behind Shaq and MJ something LeBron will never do. "
Really?
Best PF of all time!!
I'll take Hakeem Olajuwon...
Nah
tim duncan is in the top 5 of all time.
if he played with multiple hall of famers/top 50 players of all time he'd be even higher.
haters gonna hate!
Hakeem anyone?
@lagosdre oh also...ginobili and parker are ALWAYS mentioned in the greatest player of all time conversation lol like kobe is...( although i think ginobili SHOULD be considered a top player, not best ever, but certainly has put in the work to deserve more recognition than he does)
Just 2 blocks shy of a quadruple double. Let's see you do that Lebron.
@bigedjr1780 you know..you are the first laker fan i've seen that has said good things about the spurs?...that's kind of cool lol
Don't be so sure of that, watch tape on Russell, you'll see that he was actually pretty darn quick for a center, his on-ball defense, defensive timing and awareness and shot-blocking were on par with any defender in history. Which is why he was SOO dominant.
Russell was extremely well coordinated and had great timing! He was one hell of an athlete.
Lebron for Pippen, and Hakeem or Kareem.
And Russell is so overrated he played in an era of short white boys, so talented.
Not true, the average height in the seasons Russell played was either 6'5 or 6'6, which is exactly the same average height in the NBA today.
You need to replace Bird with Lebron. Sorry, but Lebron is physically way superior than Bird, a better SCORER (not shooter), and actually a slightly better passer. Lebron can guard multiple positions, and his superior athleticism would greatly enhance the team. If lebron wins one more ring AND a Finals MVP, he will no doubt cement his status as greatest SF of all time. Lebron alongside Magic, Jordan, Duncan and Kareem is the ultimate dream team right there.
K-Mart was being blocked da shit out by Duncan and couldn't stop Duncan constantly scoring on himself, I guess even K-Mart started to salute Duncan after these games
Nobody:
Tim Duncan: Does some Magic Johnson pass fake to finger roll layup on the fast break!!!
Pop: 😑
Shaq, Hakeem, Russel, Wilt, Kareem...I can see an argument made for an of them as best center ever. There's really no argument for Nash as the best point guard ever. I can't think of any point guard to compete with Magic either. Isiah, Robertson, Stock, none of those guys were ever even arguably the best player in the league.
How did I act like I've seen them play? Lol? All I did was look up a few dates and connected them incorrectly. Probably 90% of the people on UA-cam don't even know WHEN these greats played, I just happened to get a few dates mixed up.
@GoDiGY93 100% false. Shortest player was 6'1". Truth is there actually were more big guys back in those days than there are now. You're on the Internet buddy shouldn't you research this type of thing before you make a bogus comment?
Please tell me how I know nothing about basketball. Knowing when a player's career starts and ends means that I know nothing about basketball? Your logic fail, little kid.
Well, for starters, Hakeem owned David Robinson in the playoffs, and both he and Ewing could shoot 3's. But Kareem and Tim Duncan were both better as well.
duncan ate kenyon martin alive!! TOTAL DOMINATION!!
Are you fucking kidding me? Russel played against 2 of the greatest bigmen of all time, Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem. Your comment is irrelevant.
@elmagicomessi Only a persone that doesn't know anything about basketball could have said that . you definitely are one of those people !
Don't be so damn ignorant. I've been a hardcore Spurs fan for life and he may be a Top 10 player, but a Top 5 player? No.
I know your inbox is full of this by now, but, guess who won both league and final MVP? LEBRON! lol send him a apology
@elmagicomessi
TOP 20! WHAT THE FUDGE ARE YOU TALKİNG ABOUT? HES THE GREATEST POWER FORWARD OF ALL TIME!!!
@iwaneatmeat
pippen no shit right? -.- bring lebron in :)
2003 was a common year cause I was 9 years old back then
Me too :)
SleazyNA Being 9 years old was pretty tough
82-0 every year...
I agree, I'd sub Kareem for Hakeem though
And I'll take Kareem destroy him offensively or Russel to shut him down.
Amazing :)
Wow, ur defense at the point and small forward are horrible.
Wow, Duncan was fast.
3 three pointers made for each team by the 4th quarter lol
well you couldn't be more wrong could you?
@elmagicomessi Just.. stop.. you've lost all privileges to speak on the game of basketball with that comment.
@iHaunted1 Nash over Magic? Please.
Actually Lebron just did...
@lagosdre you do realize that even as great as ginobili and parker were...if duncan wasn't drawing double teams in EVERY game of the playoffs..they wouldn't be recognized for those runs? it's a team game...this is true...but what do you think a player like carmello would do if he's not the one putting in all the points? maybe cry about it...quit on his team?
what's duncan do? make parker and ginobili household names
@rafikz77 Yeah it sucks to see that as a long time fan! I remember this Duncan well, how many forget so soon how great he was on his prime. He could do it all, midrange, bank and inside, dude was a flat out beast in his prime! Untouchable that year especially.
@LakersDynasty42 we're generally agreed on that, yes
tim duncan is honestly and should be top 5 all time imooo
This has been done by Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as well.
Thanks LD
Man, Timmy was so mobile back then...
He is not the same player anymore :-(
@elmagicomessi You can't be in top 10000000000000000000000000000000000000 of all time...
@TheRafaelBond
Pippen is ten times all NBA-defensive team (8 as a first team)
14:10 21 pts 20 rebounds 10 asst. 8 blks?! ALMOST A QUADRUPLE DOUBLE!!!!
