I'm in my 60's. And just fell in love with opals, and making jewelry it is so rewarding. The smile it puts on someone's face who appreciates it is so rewarding.
The Coober Pedy opal has it's own beauty. Aussie here. I've been under ground at Lightning Ridge chasing the black opal. It's very addictive once you find a little. The devoted opal miners are a unique breed of Australian. Nice job here cutting these gems.
I love your channel and have watched it for several years. I also watch gold dredging and Pauly pauly, and Dan Hurd. You guys are my life and have been my entertainment for a long time! This is my favorite Opal. It's beautiful. I love your voice and humor. Thanks for educating us on different types of Opal. One day, I want my wedding ring with this type of stone💍💍
I like how brave you are - not just the cutting opals etc...but also taking risks by tossing in the use of your dry, sometimes goofy humour - makes me laugh.
I'm with you on this. Sometimes symmetry of shape is absolutely the best approach but if you're presented with a fabulous stone that has wonderful colour in a less than symmetrical way, surely good judgement must sometimes suggest that letting the stone _speak for itself_ may be the way to go. Just like using excessive embellishment in the setting. Australian opal, and a lot of Ethiopian opal have such wonderful play of colour that distracting from their personality by excessively framing it in too much sparkle, or twirly bits, or adding faceted gems in the setting downplays the opal that is the centrepiece.
That was truly 10 minutes and 14 seconds of pleasure, watching a craftsman at work is just mesmerising, I can never understand why gem cutters don't sign/mark their work like other artists, thank you for showing us your skill
That's a good idea and I'll take that into consideration when I faset the next masterpiece of my career in the future 😁👏hope you don't mind if I do ? "JOHN RAFFAELLI"

Of all the videos I have watched on cutting opals I must say you truly are the best cutter /polisher I have seen. No extra rock weight - as so many cutter seem to leave on reducing the quality/ sacrificing clarity and quality for weight. Well done! Liked and subscribed I look forward to seeing more videos
I love the fact that you cut stones for Riley. I bought my 1st opal from him on Opal Auctions and both of you have inspired my to start polishing stones and learning to cab isn't as easy as you make it look. Great videos.
Colonel, couldn't sleep last night so I looked you up. You had me laughing out loud. Thank you for the laughter & the beauty. STUNNING work & stone. Wow!
@@PulitzerOpal I was wondering if you had a dilemma with the king stones two patterns. I know its somewhat subtle but is there some reason other than size why you did not separate those different patterns?
@@PulitzerOpal Its certainly a beautiful stone. I would have loved to see it cut to make the most of both of those very pretty patterns but the stones owner calls it :)
@@PulitzerOpal i would have separated the pinfire section before shaping the stone. Maybe could have gone for a main stone with the better pattern and a matched pair for ear rings cut from the same stone. Could maybe have got close to 25 carat king + 2 x 5 carat ear ring stones if the cut were made before shaping with the set having similar value to a larger king stone alone. Big stones are of course rare but matched sets cut from a single stone are at least equally rare and make incredibly saleable finished pieces.
Those are all so beautiful. My husband says I'm like a magpie, distracted by anything shiny and I have to correct him. I am distracted by anything iridescent, just like opals, and second choice, mother of pearl.
And I see a lot of comments on the arrowheads you create. And I am amazed by them too. You have the grandfather reading a story for his grandkids kind of voice. But, I don't fall asleep. Thank goodness ❣️🥰

Hey Pulitzer, I can't remember but have you done a video about the history of opal? Like how people used to shape it long ago, or when we first started seeing it in jewelry?
Beautiful, mastering the foot technique must have taken year's, probably explains the Free form peices 😉. Always wondered why we didn't evolve with a extra appendage, always seem to need a extra hand. What about the idols with 6 or 8 arms? Wouldn't that be convenient! And the Arrowhead is a bute, is opal always suitable for flaking points? Fracture free opal I should say.
@@tombrooks3812 I gobbled up the books as a teenager. I didn't really watch the movies. Only saw bits and pieces but in the book it's described as giving off its own light. To me that is an Opal.
