I had a 2011 Automatic Scion tc, got it pre owned with 70K miles on it. I used it as daily car for 5 yrs till i got rear ended on freeway it was total and i had injury need therapy for 4 months. It had 170K miles on it and never failed me as my daily car.. Now i got me a pre-owned 2015 Manual Trans Tc with 62K miles on it.. Love these Toyota.. Very reliable cars and cheap to maintain!
The main issue with these cars is that the engines on the 1st generation often burn oil. You can go on indefinitely driving and the engine will be fine so long as you don't mind filling up the engine with oil with some frequency. Mine is heading towards the beater zone but if you keep up with it, it still holds it's own in terms of modern cars looks and I still get compliments for it even though I personally know it's really just a decent car.
Look on Amazon, $50 dollar valve cover and $10 for the seals, up to you if you want to do the whole sparks and coils but after that you should be GTG, that's what I did and no more oil burn.
It’s basically a celica successor. They came when the celiacs went. I own a celica. Love the thing. Mine has the same engine and the same damn cat codes on. I would buy a tC in a heartbeat

This car is hardly forgotten, its driven by so many people where I live. It's just that people who have never driven one have unrealistic expectations for it, criticizing it for not being a race car....

Purchased one of these in the summer of 2004. Wasn't a fan of the manual shifting but I got well over EPA MPG with it so I kinda wish I still had the car but with an automatic transmission.
It's definitely one of the best cheap cars money can buy. They're fun to drive, fast as far as in-city driving goes, the passing power is definitely there and you can do so many things with them its ridiculous. But yeah, most importantly, they are RELIABLE and can take a beating.

So my check engine light recently came on and I thought it was the CAT as well (P0420). Turns out one of the o2 sensors was clogged and that's what was causing it to run rich. I pulled both out and sprayed them w/ carb cleaner. Reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and ever since the car is running better than before w/ no CEL.

Hello, congratulations on your first car! You could build these engines up with a turbo, just be prepared because it will likely cost you a lot of time and money. I’d recommend just driving it as is, but to each their own.
I love my 07 Scion TC. But try to avoid 07's as some of engines consume engine oil. Mine is included. But overall, Scion TC is a very good and pratical car.

I just got a 2010 and I love it! Scion is owned by Toyota so technically it’s my fifth “Toyota” I had a 91 Camry, two older Corolla n my last car was an 08 Corolla. To sum this car up: Corolla w a Camry engine and weight. It corners well enough but for some reason it has the turn radius of a minivan n that really bugs me. It’s basically the same length as my Corolla too. It’s a very strange experience. I live in the cities n enjoy the torque, but im sick of these kids in they sht box civic revving at me like it’s the fast and the furious. The car looks fast and maybe I’d beat them off the line but at the end of the day she’s 13 with absolutely no rust. Im not risking that. There a lot of people who think “girl car”? Idk maybe??? All three of my sisters and nieces love it lol. From the dealer it had tinted windows an a smaller antenna. I put on those small stick on mirrors for that blind spot, spec d halo headlights as the stock ones had moisture, and I’ll probably switch the cargo light to an led. Otherwise I’m done messing with it. At the end of the day it’s a sexy car and I’m not ashamed to admit that!

You cannot redline these cars, that toyota engine with the faulty piston rings wont take it, especially a high milage. So i cringed when he reved it high on this video. @Polymer Tools having owned one previously, the gas mileage was average at best. Not in the level of a Corolla.

the scion TC is powered by timing chain and not belt which makes it even a more durable car

I think that sounds pretty good. Make sure to check the mechanical condition and see if there is any rust.
