    Although I myself don't compete, or even have workshop or flying space or even much time to indulge my numerous aeromodeling passions, this wonderful channel, along with a couple of other ones, allows me to be a kind of vicarious or armchair flyer; I may pick up the drawing pens and balsa scalpel again some day but til then, thank you so much J&H Aerospace for all these wonderful films and concepts. This Piccolo is no exception! So much power and speed in such a tiny package. Keep up the good work! 👍

    Really nice flights and beautiful builds! Richie and I are sticking with ultra simple foamies, no timers or DT's, as we lose them to the trees quite often (3 last weekend...coolest one was 3min13sec and OOS in a strong riser!). Nice to see someone exploring what can be done with caps in a more elaborate model! -Mike and Richie

      It's amazing the performance you can get with these newer caps and motors!

    Love this little freeflight. Fantastic performance and "parachute-like" stable DT recovery.

    Hello, Piccolo is a design from Mauricio Zito, legendary modeller from Argentina. My F1C mentor. Teammates in several World Championships teams representing our country. This was also my first power model (1/2A). A lot of memories... thank you!

      I want to build one for 1/2A Gas with a TD 049 or maybe even a Profi.

    Is the motor on a timer, then it glides until the stab flips up after a programmed amount of time ? Cool stuff !

      That's correct! Works great doesn't it?

    Wow! how did you get it to be that stable at that weight? the winds were perfectly in your favour too! amazing performance as always

      What’s the weight got to do with it’s stability ?

    •  2 роки тому +2

      @@pufango4059 at low weights, all aircraft are inherently less stable, because it takes less outside force to disturb its path

    Love the recent micro-F/F vids. I've had a scaled-up 100" Sr. Playboy in-plans for a couple years--gotta get to it ! Your micro's get me wanting-to more and more :-)

    They are such great flyers when I was 18 a friend of mine had a larger gas powered version.. I've always wondered why someone hasen't fully Radio controlled one of these bad boys ???!!! I'd love to take one of your kits in the micro and nano control it with the tiny stuff they've got available these days it would be a hoot to have one lit up for twilight flying .. great job great flying kit !!! Check out Society of Antique Modelers. They hold meets around the country for old gas models, both freeflight and RC conversions. I've owned a few, mostly electric conversions, and have found them to be delightful.

    Josh, what size capacitor are you using to hold the power so steady? Most of the capacitor setups I've seen around sees the voltage drop off and the motor run down more like rubber power. Clearly a pretty high F value so you need to run with a timer for the motor.
    Great little flyer!

      It's a 10F cap charged to 4.5V on a medium resistance motor. Incredible run times

    What is the thing in front of wing on top of the motor?

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  Рік тому +1

      It's a dummy engine. The full sized Piccolo is an Argentine 1/2A plane that has quite a reputation there.

    Why do you wait so long after starting the motor to throw it?

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  2 роки тому

      The timer I used on this one has an 8 second start delay so the motor doesn't start until 8 seconds after you flip the switch. I recently switched over to servoless timers which have a time on release function so as soon as the plane leaves your hand, it fires up and starts timing, and that gives a functionally longer motor run.

    I like that it has a D/T timer, but I'm always sad when it goes off too early! :)

    I like planes of all sorts / kinds. Indoor flying is fascinating both free flight and rc electric / rubber powered etc. but outdoor flying I can't bare to hand over control to nature, anything out door has to have at least some form of control to bring it down (the timer thing doesn't do it for me) when required. The last thing I would want is to lose a plane, ok it may only be a few hours of work lost at the least but they are still hours of anticipation, concentration, care etc. resulting in your baby.

      The dethermalizer does make it a lot less risky, but having a suitable field to fly is very important. We also use radio trackers in the bigger planes so even if they do fly away, we can track them down.

    Nice to enjoy lunch time flying in the 100° heat with my 88 Oz molded ships DS in The thermals and there's no one around because no one can take the heat no millennials to worry about have the park all to myself unlike the mornings.

    50年以上昔、私はこれに良く似た飛行機を作った。小さなグローエンジンがついていた。
    ある晴れた日に、その飛行機は良く飛び、空高く登って見えなくなった。
    とても好きな飛行機だったが、悲しくなかった。
