Just my input, a couple principles, one get your parts from the record copy the string parts, pads,organs, horns, leads, bells etc you hear on the records, the more you listen and copy the more parts will begin to come naturally to you. Two think about frequency aux is upper mids and highs usually. Three think about what is missing in the groove take things higher but pick your spots and don't be afraid to keep it simple.
