as someone who learned this way... i'd also get a pad and a metronome and just do stick work while you watch movies etc... that is where the heavy work happens. Playing rock is easy,... drums are physical, you need muscle control. The rest is the fun. Rock on.
Not bad man. Definitely hear it coming along on parts of the songs. I suggest adding a few minutes of just playing a basic 4/4 while focusing on keeping groove and tempo. Simple and sweet and then scale up :). Groove and tempo is #1.
Ive been learning the same way, dont listen to the naysayers. Everyone learns differently. And at some point you will want to become a better player and start introducing the fundamentals. But for now, just enjoying the instrument is enough 🤟 rock on!
It is interesting that you are learning drums from jamming. If you have been playing druns as many days as you say, learning by jamming is not really a good way to learn druns. You really need to start by learning technique. After that, you beed to learn the fundamentals and rudiments. Then you can begin jamming and have a better idea of what you are doing. Learning the way you are really does not teach you much, and you will not have any concept of how the songs ate actually played. For a drummer who has played 184 days your timing and fluency should be better. One of the problems with just jamming to learn drums is sadly you will never get good. You can have fun playing and jamming but if you do not know what the notes are or how to play them correctly, you are just like a kid banging on pits and pans. You do seem to have a concept of rythem and time, but you get sloppy in your fills. The other thing I notice is you do not really hold your sticks correctly. Correctly holding your sticks, correct posture etc.. will make drumming a whole lit easier. Learning the propper technique for how to hit the drums with holding your sticks properly would also help to become a better drummer. Just jamming every day will actualy take longer to be decent on drums then learning the basics first. If you first learn the basics and fundamentals of drumming you may be able to hear what is being played and be able to do it. Just jamming you really have no idea what or how is being played. You may hear and play the basic beat but when it comes to fills you know they are hitting toms but do you know which ones and how? Also holding your sticks correctly makes doing all the different drum rolls much easier. If you are just doing and having fun more power to you. If you are actually trying to be decent on drums you will never really get there by just jamming. I have been playing drums for over 40 years and when I first started I learned all the techniques and fundamentals all on snare and practiced every day for about 9 months before even attempting a full drum set. This made playing the drumset much easier than just practically banging on it. The other thing with learning the basics first is your timing will improve. Just jamming your timing is not the worst but it is all over the place. Practicing with a metronome would help. Good luck.
Sounds gravy! don't listen to the haters! Im a sometimes drummer for a polka band and deff practice by playing along with songs as well. You should try to get more musicians into your jam! The growth will be exponential when you share the passion.
Sorry but not sorry, 184 days? You should look for something else unless you just do this for therapy. You have no natural talent in my honest opinion.
@@DrummerJohn chill out. He's enjoying music. You're ruining it for him. Why are so many musicians interested in dick measuring? Just live and let live.
