I recently purchased two new 20# tanks at a local UHaul I noticed the employee didn’t open the relief valve and he didn’t purge the tank like they’ve always have in the past, i questioned him and he said they have new epa laws that they follow that doesn’t let them evacuate the gasses in to the atmosphere and this method is perfectly safe, I’m still on the fence about this every video on youtube says you need to use the relief valve

If filling by weight, properly, the valve doesn't need to be opened. If not using a scale and filling by volume, the valve needs to be opened in order to make sure the correct volume is filled.
Brand new tanks are vacuum purged so there's no air to bleed off.

This is why in australia these tanks are no longer customer refillable, the gas company fills owns and maintains these tanks, you pay for the propane and not the tank

Customers don't fill them, the poorly trained employees at the filling station do

How come when you shoot those tins with a high power rifle they don't expload, the bullet just make a clean hole and the gas coming out of it just makes it spin a bit, nothing too exciting.

Probably because the pressure inside isn't super high unless it's very full and very warm

@@Krankie_V wrong again. But keep on shooting your mouth off. MR Plytiger the reason they don't explode is pretty simple. Propane, like other gases has a upper explosive limit and an lower explosive limit. You have to have gas in its range in order to ignite. KRANKIE should know that. He is an extremely smart man that knows more than anyone else. The good news is that we don't rely on men like him to keep this country going....or we wouldn't get anything done.

The best way for me to fill the tank safely is to let someone elts do it for me.
