Hi, thanks for deep comparisons. Would you include a blender simulation in future comparisons? I guess blender's simulations is a single core performance oriented and it could yield a winner in single core performance.
Most of us use APC bricks where I work. There have been just a few times that our power has flickered, or gone out, and this thing kept me working while others that hadn’t set their workstations up with one got to either reboot (and lose data) or call it a day if the power went out. The latter had me regretting this device.
One gaming scenario that might be worth testing, is where you host a small game server and play the same game on the same machine. My girlfriend and I do this for eg. Ark survival evolved, Conan exiles, 7 days to die and we used to do that for Team Fortress 2, left 4 dead 2 etc. and sometimes with a few friends hopping on as well. It's a decent alternative to leasing a server, when you might game infrequently and only in periods and usually better performance than the game client being server as well and sometimes that has limitations such as players being tethered to each other. A couple of months back I upgraded from an old i5 4690k to a 3700x. I pondered the 5600x, but it was quite overpriced (and still is around here) and considering I usually host those servers, when we game together, 2 more cores could possibly give an edge FPS wise more than better performing fewer cores. That might be worth a test in the future... Certainly I've seen quite a few people here and there that play games the same way.
I had just bought a 3700x, like, 12 minutes ago. Would love to get my hands on a 5600x, but I guess it will be nearly impossible until later first quarter next year...
3700x owner here as well - Microcenter has the 5600x for the same price as the in stock 3700x for $299. Nope, happy with the one I have. Not letting go of my Gigabyte Aorus 1080ti either.
I don't agree with the prospective in this video, which to buy a faster 6/12 CPU, or and slower 8/16 CPU? You have to give context on what more/less CPU cores can give you while gaming. I owned/bought a i5 6500k bases on video like this one "all you need is 4 cores for gaming." Overtime I wished I bought an i7 6700 instead. I started to notice that background apps would start to slow my game down (lower my FPS). And nothing is worst than opening Task Manager to closing apps to make your game run smoother. I could also tell with my i5 6500k when windows had an update while playing a game. I upgraded to 3700x and I really notice the extra cores while gaming when using discord/youtube/twitch (or whatever else). I think I paid 269.99 for 3700x on Amazon when it was on sale and I was really happy with CPU. With that said after watching this video. If I was still using my i5 6500k - which one would I buy now (3700x, or 5600x). I would not buy either of them. I would buy i7 10700k which has a little bit of the best from both CPUs. It's 320 dollars and with CPU speeds up to 5.1 and 8/16 cores. I don't see myself spending 300 dollars on a 6/12 CPU (5600x) and I would not buy a slower CPU (3700x) for 9 dollars more over the i7 10700k.
Could you add one or two MMO games to your tests? I think the single player / first person games you highlight favour CPUs with higher clock speeds whereas MMOs might benefit more from the higher core count. Would be interesting to see!
@@JarrodsTech As you have pointed out, 5600X is better overall compared to 3700X. It would be interesting to know how it compares to 10700k in overall value, gaming and multi-core applications combined since it has 2 more cores.
@@ilyamur885 I got the impression that even though 5600X has two less cores, it still provides a better value. It's better in games and not to far behind in productivity.
@@gagan.dee.p when it will be cheaper maybe. In my place 5600x costs almost 450$, same as 10900f/r9 3900, and 3700 pro (3700x clone) costs 200$. So... maybe in the future (not near).
I remember back in 2010 when I bought x58 motherboard. Two years later I had the Xeon 5670. Literally everyone were saying that I am crazy and there will be never more than four cores needed for gaming. 9 year later I was still rocking with that processor easily (4 cores are now obsolete). Games gained from multicore processors later on. X5670 was faster after overclocking around 150% comparing to any i5 until 8/9 series. Two months ago I chose 3700X over 5600X. Why ? Your answer is above.8cores and 16 threads will be the new standart in next 5/6 years. PS5 and Xbox series X uses 8 cores processors therefore optimizations will go in that direction.
UPS is great, I've used one for about 10 years and the amount of work that's been saved from power outage over that time has easily paid itself off - and not just saying that because of the ad, having a UPS is great.
@@MadXSVI in my experience for the past 10 years, one ups lasts for about 2-3 years for me... I'm kinda disappointed that it only lasts for 2-3 years, but it's also extremely handy so I'm not complaining too much.
@Krioque Well, it should make a difference in turn based games. Civ games, Total war games.....etc can have very long “end turn” times mid/end game due to loads of units on the map, AI battles going on...etc. A faster cpu makes a huge difference. Initial loading times can be a lot shorter too. I measured how long a few of my games take to load after clicking the shortcut. My new 5800x loads games ~15% faster than my “old” 3700x I appreciate all the cinebench and blender and whatever else tests every single reviewer do but for gamers that means pretty much nothing. On the other hand loading times would make sense to all gamers but no reviewer test them. They all seem to care about fps and productivity, single and multi core performance.
would you consider doing a followup video with a more mid-range gpu like the 5700XT and the same cpus? it would be interesting to see the real world difference in that scenario as most people don´t run that high-end gpus
This comparison makes sense if one could actually buy a 5600. I just built a PC and waited 2 months for the 5600, then after waiting another month and a half said F it and bought the 3700. This launch of the 5000 serious was nothing but disappointing and a paper launch at best. It left everyone who was waiting for a 5k series waiting longer. Happy with my 3700 and no regrets.
Why is everybody comparing the MOST HIGH END GPU with these processors? If you have a MEDIUM range GPU (example AMD 5700x or Nvidia 2070 Super) there will be non or minimal differance. That's why I think this is not a realistic comparisson. .
Got my 3700x a few months ago for €290 with horizon zero dawn for free. Both cpus have framerates well above 60fps and give a great 144hz experience. Most people won’t pair it with a rtx 3090 but more like a 3070 and so the margins will get smaller.
Why even bother benchmarking cpu's in Odyssey. Even Ubisoft confirmed that the Cpu optimization was trash in that game. Thankfully they fixed it in Valhalla
*and don't forget that...* AI upscaling such as DLSS will continue to be more common. In those scenarios you render the game first at LOWER RESOLUTIONS then the GPU does some smart, inference upscaling of that image. The point is you're rendering at a LOWER RESOLUTION so the CPU bottleneck for per-core performance matters much more here so you might be rendering between 1080p and 1440p rather than 4K.
My question as to whether to upgrade from my 2700x still remains inconclusive. Knowing the gains in 1440p and 4K won't be significant and my efficiency as a game developer will go generally unchanged I think I'll be holding on to my 2700x for quite some time yet.
I was going to get a 5600x, and still might, but I found a 3800x at my local swap meet for $80 US! You know I snapped that up and I think I'll stick with it for now.
Nice review and t-shirt :) Though it would have been nice to have a comparison with the 9900k along the way, or its brother 10700k. In US at Microcenters these three CPUs, the 3700x, 5600x, and 9900k, sell for the same price of $300, while the 10700k for $330. And the 5600x pops up from time to time there, very rarely, but it still does.
Nice video !😁 Thanks Jarrod ! So sad there is no Ryzen 5000 series available here in France since a whole month... 🙁 By the way happy festive season man ! 🎅

but... UPSs are not supposed to keep running a gaming pc.. they have a couple of minutes before they go out too. just enough to save your data and shut down. and your internet wont keep working if there is a power outage.
Sir, your approach to these CPU comparisons is unrivaled; so efficient and informative. Please do 5800X vs. 3900X. Curious to see how similar the outcome is to this at the ~$450 price point.
5800x is worst value of them all especially cost per core if don't gaming on a thing higher than say 75hz I'd get a 3900x those four more cores will come in hand maybe not today of tommow depending on usage case)
@@DC3Refom I don't disagree. But even at its inflated price, the 5800X still might make sense for a lot of people. For example, those who want more than a 6-core but don't need a 12 core, or who just don't want to pay the extra $100 for a 5900X, when that could cover the cost of another major system component, like the case, ssd, or ram. How much the 3900x trails in gaming and by how much it beats the 5800x in productivity would be interesting to see. Many care a lot more about one than the other.

Got my 3700x at microcenter for $279 and considering i have no clue when the 5600x will become available, im very happy. Also tbh I dont think i'll miss that extra 30fps when im already pulling 100+fps with the 3700x. It really becomes a case of diminishing returns once youre above 100fps in most games
You also run a program or two have some things working while still getting smooth fps while the 5600x is say for eg SOTTR gets pegged at 100% usage at time or the division 2 / breakpoint eg
Could you test with the new AMD cards with the 5600x and SAM enabled?
The 3700x is $60 cheaper than the 5600x here. With the looks of it, I think I'm leaning towards the 3700x now. Thanks for this review.❤️
Nah its definitely worth the upgrade we talking about $60 lol
@@flipinfin I could use your extra $60, mind sending it over?🥳
Excellent T-shirt mate
"tsyeah, that's what they want you to think" while dismissively putting the headphones back on = Oscar
One of the perks of living in a country that isn't as developed as the rest of the western world (Croatia) is that 5600X is everywhere in stock. Got mine 2 weeks ago, was 50$ more expensive than 3700X though, but for me I'd say - worth it.
The latter had me regretting this device.
sick burn on kojima bro.
alright i love that sponsor segway lmao
P.S. Love the glasses, Jarrod!

Certainly I've seen quite a few people here and there that play games the same way.
this was really helpfull! and a great video
Has anyone notice that at 1:04 the backround actually moves if you move your screen.
with the ryzen 5 5600x being around 275€ and the 7 3800x being 295€ i think i know what i'll be going for lol
I had just bought a 3700x, like, 12 minutes ago. Would love to get my hands on a 5600x, but I guess it will be nearly impossible until later first quarter next year...
I just copped one tonight on New Egg via notification bots. And an RTX 3070.
5600x is cheaper? In what planet? In my country its 100€ more.. Pretty sure in many other countries same deal..
Got my 5600x two days ago. Happy noices.
Got mine a couples days ago, was starting to doubt my choice. What do you think was it worth it or a 3700x is better?
@@TheAlphaWolfX13 dunno never owned a 3700x. I'm still happy thought, just that I want a new gfx card. But yeah..
Could you add one or two MMO games to your tests? I think the single player / first person games you highlight favour CPUs with higher clock speeds whereas MMOs might benefit more from the higher core count. Would be interesting to see!
Lol I loved the sponsor bit you did!
This is the video I was waiting for, I wish you would have thrown in i7 10700k in the comparison too.
Hmm I guess there's there 10700k vs 3700x video I have you could compare some results with 😀
@@JarrodsTech As you have pointed out, 5600X is better overall compared to 3700X. It would be interesting to know how it compares to 10700k in overall value, gaming and multi-core applications combined since it has 2 more cores.
@@gagan.dee.p just watched Jarrods video... and 5600x was not better 'overall' than 3700x)
Came here to congratulate you for your music taste.
bro I need that power supply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im going crazyyyyyyy
( btw nice vid as always jarrod :) )
UPS is great, I've used one for about 10 years and the amount of work that's been saved from power outage over that time has easily paid itself off - and not just saying that because of the ad, having a UPS is great.
@@JarrodsTech How long can that UPS last?
@@MadXSVI in my experience for the past 10 years, one ups lasts for about 2-3 years for me... I'm kinda disappointed that it only lasts for 2-3 years, but it's also extremely handy so I'm not complaining too much.
Why no reviewer test game loading times, or “end turn” times on strategy games? It makes a huge difference on a long run but nobody seems to care....
My new 5800x loads games ~15% faster than my “old” 3700x
I appreciate all the cinebench and blender and whatever else tests every single reviewer do but for gamers that means pretty much nothing.
Big love for the insomnium Shirt 🤘
That's why I think this is not a realistic comparisson. .
it's to keep the gpu out of the equation.
high end ? for gaming, surely. but you do realise there are processors that cost about 7000$ ? yap, thats high end
3700X is better for developers though. Even I was getting 5600x for cheaper , still I went for 3700x
got a 3700x for $156 and i think for after effects its gonna be perfect
Got my 3700x a few months ago for €290 with horizon zero dawn for free. Both cpus have framerates well above 60fps and give a great 144hz experience. Most people won’t pair it with a rtx 3090 but more like a 3070 and so the margins will get smaller.
Amazing comparison jarrod, as always. Also when is your g15 review coming?
Thanks! Game benchmark video is the 17th, full review 21st.
very informative tests
Why even bother benchmarking cpu's in Odyssey. Even Ubisoft confirmed that the Cpu optimization was trash in that game. Thankfully they fixed it in Valhalla
Theres so many in stock here in mexico. I pray for all my Canadian froends
that intro was a nice touch
*and don't forget that...*
AI upscaling such as DLSS will continue to be more common.
Four months on and the 3700x is about $70 cheaper in Oz than the 5600x . It is now a very difficult choice .
I was going to get a 5600x, and still might, but I found a 3800x at my local swap meet for $80 US! You know I snapped that up and I think I'll stick with it for now.
Speculation fuel right here. Jarrod'sTech lives in the same building as Jarrod's Laptops
obviously, they both talking during the ad.
Love the work put into the video though!
Nice video !😁 Thanks Jarrod ! So sad there is no Ryzen 5000 series available here in France since a whole month... 🙁
By the way happy festive season man ! 🎅
Thanks, same to you! Hope your region gets more stock soon!
Its funny that in SEA, Ryzen 5 5600x is more expensive than Ryzen 7 3700x. The difference is about $50~. I picked the Ryzen 7 3700x to match with my GTX 1080 Ti. I will upgrade to Ryzen 9 5900x later after everything will become stable (price and availability)
I just ordered a pc with a 3700x and 3060ti...even with this I’m happy with my purchase
I built a PC and unfortunately couldn’t get a good GPU but got a 3800x and a GTX 1660
@@Riothebeast. I was going to build my own but with GPU prices and availability it was the best I could do.
@@zackdl yeah definitely prebuilds these days are worth it however, i luckily got the 1660 under $200 off a friend so i didnt lose anything but actually got a better deal :D
Sir if my first priority is editing and VFX ( pp, ae and blender ) should i still go for 5600x …? Or 3700x for more c/t. Please help.
If you can find the 5600x cheaper than the 3700x, I guess it's worth it. If you can't, it's not worth the wait. Get a 3700x and you're golden.
Also, that band shirt is dope. I love that album.
Your overclock on the 3700x is a little lacking. I have one currently running at 4.575 all core at 1.4v. Temps don't go past 76 celsius on a h100i with a push-pull set up.
