As I continue with the From My Bookshelf series I picked up the Gregory Heisler 50 Portraits Book.
WOW, he has captured 50 unbelievable portraits and much much more. Many photo books just show you the pictures but this one gives you everything you need to know to know how the image was made.
You have the personal behind the scenes stories right from the photographer that draw you into the images. Beyond that you find out how the photo was made, as a photographer knowing this information is invaluable.
If there is someone to look up to in portrait photography it is defilingly Gregory Heisler.

I saw that the video skips in the middle but it ended up fixing itself. We saw it after it went live so we are aware.
The points he makes at the beginning where he says he looks through them for ideas and inspiration is exactly how I feel whenever I look at someone else's work. To see their shots and try to find that same kind of feeling.
I like how the violet color goes through the whole frame.
I bought this book today on Amazon, I should get it tomorrow. Yay!
Thanks for the rec Jared!!!!
This book is on my wish list :)
I recommend "Beneath The Roses" by Gregory Crewdson. Excellent surreal photography. Interesting character also. Great documentary about him on Netflix fyi.
i love the gary vaynerchuk book you have sitting on the left
yea its good.
The audio has been out of sync from 1:19 to 1:39. Otherwise great video. This book is on my list for some time already, maybe I'll finally buy it now.
More Book reviews please !
great video :)
Two things bother me about this video.
1. The cable hanging out the bottom of your TV.
2. The fact we still haven't seen you take a photograph in a single one of your videos for at least 6 months and possibly longer.
Other than that, loving your work.
Great video, Thanks! You mention the older photographs have more umph. I like some of the older work as well. I wonder if it has to do with the topic I've heard discussed before, film vs. digital. Now personally I don't feel one is better than the other, but I do feel that for me it's caused me to take less time to set up a shot with digital because I know I have almost unlimited shutter clicks with digital and I fall back on PS allot to color correct. With film I had to really take my time because I didn't get to see the print until much later and it was a real drag if I blasted through a roll of film and realized the aperture wasn't right or any other number of things. Either way pictures are good! Keep up the great work.
I want a bath like yours!
Hi Jared, I've been following your vlogs for sometime now. One of the few that I subscribe to on youtube. Do you know of a book that has mostly street photos, candid shots of people, or interesting compositions of objects? I'm not really into landscapes (used to like landscapes when I was younger) or posed shots/studio portraits. thanks.
Anyone have any advice for a good program to view your photos on the computer? Thanks!
Well every computer comes with a default app to view images. What's exactly what you want?
Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, Aperture, or any program that came with your camera is good for viewing pictures
Fernando Callo well i knew that. but maybe a better program other than that lol
Tristan Lamour oh ok, yeah the cd that came with my nikon won't work on my new pc. maybe because it's windows 8.1...? idk. but thanks.
aqueenchi117 Try with Lightroom or Photoshop
Audio goes in and out of sync, great book though.
