Very nice comparison! I am a ex-samsung user (S21U). Honestly I think the S24U is a HUGE letdown. I am so happy that I returned my unit and switched to the vivo x100pro.
Apart from the colors, which are a bit off, dynamic range of S22U was amazing... And 4k 60 night video on S23U was good... Unfortunately nothing amazing to say about S24U 😢

I think it's daylight video looks more natural and has better contrast. The Exynos version has a low light noise control issue however. It can suffer from detail dropout.
They have a useless 200MP as main sensor, 12 MP for ultrawide whereas competition is 48/50MP. They have the same hardware except for the 10x replaced with 5x than last year that already wasn't the best. It may not be the main issue but hardware is important. People bought S24 Ultra with his camera flaws waiting for a huge camera update must be so disappointing @@Soto-Tech2020
on the night video, you can see that on the 24u when it's 60fps it is dark unlike the 23u. it's fine on the 30fps. Can you check if you have the auto fps enabled? it seems like the s23u has it, and that is why it looks brighter. while the S24U has it on only for 30fps videos. Thank you
Hi mate. I really have to thank you for the tip. I never touch the settings. I do all the comparisons in auto mode except reducing the face smoothness on the front camera to 0. After your comment I checked and the auto fps is on by default but 4K 60fps/ 30fps on the S23 Ultra and only 4K 30fps on the S24 Ultra. It looks it just 4K 30fps on the S22 Ultra, no way to change it. I changed it to 4K 60fps and 30fps on the S24 Ultra and YES, it's now brighter. However, it's still a little bit brighter and sharper on the S23 Ultra but I'm glad it's better now. I was not happy with that darkness. It should come with both fps by default like on the S23 Ultra. @@Soto-Tech2020 hey thanks for the reply! Yeah it is only enabled for the 30fps now by default. Honestly I disabled it because it changes the fps. Like it looks brighter in dark environments but it dynamically changes the fps to like 24fps I think in dark environments.
@White7561 That's very weird because like I mentioned it does look brighter and sharper on the S23 Ultra. I have a new March 1 update but I will install it tomorrow morning and take pics before and after then the same, video at night with the auto fps at 4K 60fps to see if there is any improvement. So apparently the reason that they can improve the brightness in very low light conditions is because they are changing the fps to like 24fps or something so that they can increase the Shutter speed which means more light. I recommend you to try and record your hand moving back and forth quickly when testing the auto fps on/off . That way in 60fps mode you will be able to see the fps difference when it changes it to 24fps and when it's on the normal 60fps for example. Great video btw!
It seems like it's primarily the colors that have been tweaked. The AI is still making the photos less sharp than s23 ultra. It's only the video stabilization that is better on s24 ultra, everything else is better with the s23ultra camera. I would have made a huge mistake in buying s24 ultra, without your test. Thank you.😊
"Huge Mistake" let me educate you....when the s23 ultra came out the same thing happened...wasn't ready at launch and took Samsung 3 updates well into May to get it better then the s22u....the s24u is better in EVERY way compared to the S23u as a whole....better speakers....Better screen especially the 70% better anti glare and almost 1000 nits brighter for a MUCH better hdr experience...The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is a ABSOLUTE powerhouse and runs AAA games at FULL tilt without thermal throttling cause of the insanely huge vapor chamber...don't come back with " I don't game" that doesn't matter cause the camera and everything your phone does benefits from a current processor...12g ram is perfection and battery life has been extended...the flat screen also is something 95% of Samsung users have been begging for years...list goes on...Samsung will get the camera right cause of course they will

@@digitalx3136 my main reason for buying an expensive smartphone rather than a cheaper, is solely for the camera and its ability to zoom and make sharp photos. 10x optical zoom instead of 5x optical zoom + a terrible (so far) AI rendering, is better for my specific use in nature. I rare use video recording, I don't use my phone for much else than messages and phonecall, Google maps and such simpler things. I don't care about speakers. My first thought was naturally to buy the newest and supposedly best of Samsungs lineup, but the revelation of photo, and ONLY the obviously less capable zoom camera and sharpness in this and especially the previous test disappointed and surprised me greatly. I don't doubt the s24 ultra is vastly improved on most, except on the very only thing, I am looking for in my next smartphone. Call me old fashioned, but I trust a good photo lens more than AI trying to guess how it's supposed to look. Thank you for your education. I clearly haven't studied and compared specs between the two at all - for more than a few weeks. Afterall it's "just" 2000€ (2175$) vs 1400€ (1540$),

To be honest there are minimal differences between the 24 and the 23 and I guess they look absolutely the same on social media, however the 22 is obviously oversaturated.

I have not seen much difference. What I have noticed is the the S22 Ultra has more contrast in the clouds compared to the S23/S24 Ultras. As a S23 Ultra owner, I am definitely not making a change in the near while.

@@Soto-Tech2020 better screen, better cpu, better gpu, better build quality, better isp, better camera etc. yup I said it better camera and let me justify it for you. 5x lens compared to 10x might sound like a step back but let me break it down. the 5x lens actually has a higher mp count, wider aperture and bigger sensor. it can now take 8k videos previous 10x can't, it can also take portrait photos previous 10x can't. all that being said, it just proves it's better. and again, it's not just the cameras like I mentioned. facts are better than an opinion, and I'm just stating facts. you should remove yourself from having a preference and actually make an objective review.

Also if you write a message it can change the tones of the message. And i do agree with you. New bixby vision is basically the same as circle to search. Just minuse the circling bit.
The only thing they did was change the vivid for the S24 ultra. And the rest of the video just looks a little washed out so the 24 ultra needs a lot more fixing.
Interesting comparison. Funny thing for me, what was the real color of the car at garage 2:31? On S22 is blue, on S23 kind of very dark green and on S24 darkgreen to black.

You really have to watch this video on a bigger screen to appreciate, and see the differences. You will not see it watching on a phone. A lot of folks are trashing the S24U, which isn't really fair IMO. We knew from the beginning it wasn't going to be a huge leap over the S23U in terms of camera performance. With that said, putting the two phones head to head after the FIRST update, there weren't really any scenarios where I could say that the S24U wasn't the most color accurate, or didn't outperform the S23U. I saw better highlight control and exposure in several scenes with the flowers on the S24U. The S24U also definitely improved with it's longer range zoom, and is quite impressive considering it lost the 10X optical lens. Average person may not even be able to see a difference in 10X optical vs. 10 X digital, even up to 30X! Night time video looked more natural, less grainy, and had better white balance on the S24U. Yea, in 4K60fps on the S24U it went very dark in the darkest areas ( but who is going to actually shoot video in those conditions anyway), but I'm pretty sure the actual scene was just as dark, and it did not suffer from the noticeable grain (visible especially during panning) the S23U did, despite it being brighter. The S24U performed great in the most important scenes in the night 4K60fps videos. It did even better in the 30fps videos. Had the content creator included night time zoom footage, there would have been a big difference, and the S24U would have reigned supreme here too. S24U won out in night photos as well. Less noise, more details, more accurate colors and white balance. Only selfy comparison in the segment we get was night video? Screams rushed to me! S22U exposed the signs the best, but quality was the worse, and colors looked washed out. S23U and S24U look almost identicle, with slightly more detail with the S24U. It's funny how for years in these camera comparisons Samsung has been criticized for having too much sharpening, and colors being unnatural or oversaturated, and now when they've addressed these things, people are saying it looks worse, and they want the old style back. Smh
I respect you and your (very well written) opinion, but as a neutral looking in, I have to disagree when you say that the S24 Ultra won every category against the 23 Ultra. I had them dead level. The S24 Ultra can produce darker flatter images and videos as it still has a balance problem post update. Both devices suffer from quite awful colour grading (banding) however. And as for shutter speed?. Forget it. There are devices with much better camera systems for less money out there.
No, not only it's not a huge leap over the S23 Ultra. It's for the most part a step backwards. I always watch the videos on my big 4K screen to double check my analysis and opinion and they haven't changed. The exposure is probably the worst thing about the S24 Ultra. It only got it noticeably right with the yellow flowers. The longer range zoom is not better than on the S23 Ultra. I would argue that it even struggles to match or beat the S22 Ultra in certain scenarios. It has nothing to do with sharpness, colour accuracy or oversaturation . That's not an issue on the S24 Ultra which is actually very similar to the S23 Ultra. Justifying Samsung's missteps doesn't do us and even Samsung any favour. I'm not saying that the cameras on the S24 Ultra are a disaster because that's not true but they were supposed to be better across the board not better in one scenario and on par or worse than previous models in others. When you take a photo or record a video on a mobile phone, it's for viewing on the mobile phone in 99% of cases, so analyses should be done on the mobile phone that takes them, even in a comparison it should be done on each of the corresponding screens

i personally think the s24 ultra now has better colours, much less vividness in photos, one thing i miss is the colour accuracy of my old pixel 6 pro compared to my s23 ultra now

You probably made a mistake with 4k60 lowlight. 4k60 is not the best setting for low light. Also have both S24U and S23U and low light performance from S24U is much better.

I really like them more natural colours and added contrast on s24 ultra photos. I had before s23 ultra and really didn't like them oversaturated and overexposed photos . Especially on a sunny day, everything was way too bright, i was ending up editing every single photo.
@@Soto-Tech2020 i can tell after your last videos that you are not happy, sort of upset about s24 ultra. Must be like your last 10 videos pointing and complaining about it. Just sold my s23u yesterday, so i had good few weeks to compare their cameras side by side. S23u in general taking brighter pictures,and i am not talking about hdr situations exposure. There is almost no contrast on s23u photos, just always way too bright, even in dark cloudy day, photos are bright, nowhere near reality. Thats way i am appreciating s24 ultra extra contrast and natural colours.

Awesome video Soto-Tek! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this and your other two videos on the S22, 23 and 24 ultra. I have the S22 ultra and Just picked up the S 24 ultra mainly for improvements in the camera. My experience mimics your tests and I think the photos in general (not all) from the S22 is more pleasing to my eye. I have one day to return the S24 and I am sending it back. So grateful for your timely UA-cam postings. By the way the biggest deciding factor for me is the facial shots. While the S24 does a better job of sharpening all photos, it does a bit too much to the face showing way too many imperfections. In other words, I look better when I do a selfie or back camera shots on the S22 even after making some adjustments (e.g. tone and smoothness) on the S24. Try that comparison and see what you think.
I do like the selfie pics on the S24 Ultra. I think that's probably one of the few things Samsung got right 100%. Also, the 4K portrait video is very good. The rest, though it's not bad in general should be better and needs further improvements. Thank you for watching the video. Stay safe.

That's how Exynos processes video. I've seen a lot of comparisons between S Series and the ones that use Exynos will look like that. Interesting.
I think it's daylight video looks more natural and has better contrast. The Exynos version has a low light noise control issue however. It can suffer from detail dropout.

They have a useless 200MP as main sensor, 12 MP for ultrawide whereas competition is 48/50MP. They have the same hardware except for the 10x replaced with 5x than last year that already wasn't the best. It may not be the main issue but hardware is important. People bought S24 Ultra with his camera flaws waiting for a huge camera update must be so disappointing @@Soto-Tech2020
on the night video, you can see that on the 24u when it's 60fps it is dark unlike the 23u. it's fine on the 30fps. Can you check if you have the auto fps enabled? it seems like the s23u has it, and that is why it looks brighter. while the S24U has it on only for 30fps videos. Thank you
Hi mate. I really have to thank you for the tip. I never touch the settings. I do all the comparisons in auto mode except reducing the face smoothness on the front camera to 0. After your comment I checked and the auto fps is on by default but 4K 60fps/ 30fps on the S23 Ultra and only 4K 30fps on the S24 Ultra. It looks it just 4K 30fps on the S22 Ultra, no way to change it. I changed it to 4K 60fps and 30fps on the S24 Ultra and YES, it's now brighter. However, it's still a little bit brighter and sharper on the S23 Ultra but I'm glad it's better now. I was not happy with that darkness. It should come with both fps by default like on the S23 Ultra. @@Soto-Tech2020 hey thanks for the reply! Yeah it is only enabled for the 30fps now by default. Honestly I disabled it because it changes the fps. Like it looks brighter in dark environments but it dynamically changes the fps to like 24fps I think in dark environments.
@White7561 That's very weird because like I mentioned it does look brighter and sharper on the S23 Ultra. I have a new March 1 update but I will install it tomorrow morning and take pics before and after then the same, video at night with the auto fps at 4K 60fps to see if there is any improvement. So apparently the reason that they can improve the brightness in very low light conditions is because they are changing the fps to like 24fps or something so that they can increase the Shutter speed which means more light. I recommend you to try and record your hand moving back and forth quickly when testing the auto fps on/off . That way in 60fps mode you will be able to see the fps difference when it changes it to 24fps and when it's on the normal 60fps for example. Great video btw!

It seems like it's primarily the colors that have been tweaked. The AI is still making the photos less sharp than s23 ultra. It's only the video stabilization that is better on s24 ultra, everything else is better with the s23ultra camera. I would have made a huge mistake in buying s24 ultra, without your test. Thank you.😊

"Huge Mistake" let me educate you....when the s23 ultra came out the same thing happened...wasn't ready at launch and took Samsung 3 updates well into May to get it better then the s22u....the s24u is better in EVERY way compared to the S23u as a whole....better speakers....Better screen especially the 70% better anti glare and almost 1000 nits brighter for a MUCH better hdr experience...The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is a ABSOLUTE powerhouse and runs AAA games at FULL tilt without thermal throttling cause of the insanely huge vapor chamber...don't come back with " I don't game" that doesn't matter cause the camera and everything your phone does benefits from a current processor...12g ram is perfection and battery life has been extended...the flat screen also is something 95% of Samsung users have been begging for years...list goes on...Samsung will get the camera right cause of course they will

+ there are some improvements as you said for the S24u, but those improvements are not even close to be things making it worth it upgrading from s23u
@@digitalx3136 my main reason for buying an expensive smartphone rather than a cheaper, is solely for the camera and its ability to zoom and make sharp photos. 10x optical zoom instead of 5x optical zoom + a terrible (so far) AI rendering, is better for my specific use in nature. I rare use video recording, I don't use my phone for much else than messages and phonecall, Google maps and such simpler things. I don't care about speakers. My first thought was naturally to buy the newest and supposedly best of Samsungs lineup, but the revelation of photo, and ONLY the obviously less capable zoom camera and sharpness in this and especially the previous test disappointed and surprised me greatly.
I don't doubt the s24 ultra is vastly improved on most, except on the very only thing, I am looking for in my next smartphone. Call me old fashioned, but I trust a good photo lens more than AI trying to guess how it's supposed to look.

I have not seen much difference. What I have noticed is the the S22 Ultra has more contrast in the clouds compared to the S23/S24 Ultras. As a S23 Ultra owner, I am definitely not making a change in the near while.

@@Soto-Tech2020 better screen, better cpu, better gpu, better build quality, better isp, better camera etc. yup I said it better camera and let me justify it for you. 5x lens compared to 10x might sound like a step back but let me break it down. the 5x lens actually has a higher mp count, wider aperture and bigger sensor. it can now take 8k videos previous 10x can't, it can also take portrait photos previous 10x can't. all that being said, it just proves it's better. and again, it's not just the cameras like I mentioned. facts are better than an opinion, and I'm just stating facts. you should remove yourself from having a preference and actually make an objective review.

@yamahaevo it can summarise stuff in the web browser. Like say you're reading a Webpage: There's a little ai button. It gives a summary. Does that in the notes app too. Also if you write a message it can change the tones of the message. And i do agree with you. New bixby vision is basically the same as circle to search. Just minuse the circling bit.
The only thing they did was change the vivid for the S24 ultra. And the rest of the video just looks a little washed out so the 24 ultra needs a lot more fixing.

Interesting comparison. Funny thing for me, what was the real color of the car at garage 2:31? On S22 is blue, on S23 kind of very dark green and on S24 darkgreen to black.

Probably because he had auto fps on for the S23U.

You really have to watch this video on a bigger screen to appreciate, and see the differences. You will not see it watching on a phone.
A lot of folks are trashing the S24U, which isn't really fair IMO. We knew from the beginning it wasn't going to be a huge leap over the S23U in terms of camera performance.
With that said, putting the two phones head to head after the FIRST update, there weren't really any scenarios where I could say that the S24U wasn't the most color accurate, or didn't outperform the S23U. I saw better highlight control and exposure in several scenes with the flowers on the S24U. The S24U also definitely improved with it's longer range zoom, and is quite impressive considering it lost the 10X optical lens. Average person may not even be able to see a difference in 10X optical vs. 10 X digital, even up to 30X!
Night time video looked more natural, less grainy, and had better white balance on the S24U. Yea, in 4K60fps on the S24U it went very dark in the darkest areas ( but who is going to actually shoot video in those conditions anyway), but I'm pretty sure the actual scene was just as dark, and it did not suffer from the noticeable grain (visible especially during panning) the S23U did, despite it being brighter. The S24U performed great in the most important scenes in the night 4K60fps videos. It did even better in the 30fps videos. Had the content creator included night time zoom footage, there would have been a big difference, and the S24U would have reigned supreme here too.
S24U won out in night photos as well. Less noise, more details, more accurate colors and white balance.
Only selfy comparison in the segment we get was night video? Screams rushed to me! S22U exposed the signs the best, but quality was the worse, and colors looked washed out. S23U and S24U look almost identicle, with slightly more detail with the S24U.
It's funny how for years in these camera comparisons Samsung has been criticized for having too much sharpening, and colors being unnatural or oversaturated, and now when they've addressed these things, people are saying it looks worse, and they want the old style back. Smh
I respect you and your (very well written) opinion, but as a neutral looking in, I have to disagree when you say that the S24 Ultra won every category against the 23 Ultra. I had them dead level. The S24 Ultra can produce darker flatter images and videos as it still has a balance problem post update. Both devices suffer from quite awful colour grading (banding) however. And as for shutter speed?. Forget it. There are devices with much better camera systems for less money out there.
No, not only it's not a huge leap over the S23 Ultra. It's for the most part a step backwards. I always watch the videos on my big 4K screen to double check my analysis and opinion and they haven't changed.
The exposure is probably the worst thing about the S24 Ultra. It only got it noticeably right with the yellow flowers.
The longer range zoom is not better than on the S23 Ultra. I would argue that it even struggles to match or beat the S22 Ultra in certain scenarios.
It has nothing to do with sharpness, colour accuracy or oversaturation . That's not an issue on the S24 Ultra which is actually very similar to the S23 Ultra.
Justifying Samsung's missteps doesn't do us and even Samsung any favour.
I'm not saying that the cameras on the S24 Ultra are a disaster because that's not true but they were supposed to be better across the board not better in one scenario and on par or worse than previous models in others. That's just unacceptable.

When you take a photo or record a video on a mobile phone, it's for viewing on the mobile phone in 99% of cases, so analyses should be done on the mobile phone that takes them, even in a comparison it should be done on each of the corresponding screens

You probably made a mistake with 4k60 lowlight. 4k60 is not the best setting for low light. Also have both S24U and S23U and low light performance from S24U is much better.

I really like them more natural colours and added contrast on s24 ultra photos. I had before s23 ultra and really didn't like them oversaturated and overexposed photos . Especially on a sunny day, everything was way too bright, i was ending up editing every single photo.

Just sold my s23u yesterday, so i had good few weeks to compare their cameras side by side. S23u in general taking brighter pictures,and i am not talking about hdr situations exposure. There is almost no contrast on s23u photos, just always way too bright, even in dark cloudy day, photos are bright, nowhere near reality. Thats way i am appreciating s24 ultra extra contrast and natural colours.

Awesome video Soto-Tek! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this and your other two videos on the S22, 23 and 24 ultra. I have the S22 ultra and Just picked up the S 24 ultra mainly for improvements in the camera. My experience mimics your tests and I think the photos in general (not all) from the S22 is more pleasing to my eye. I have one day to return the S24 and I am sending it back. So grateful for your timely UA-cam postings. By the way the biggest deciding factor for me is the facial shots. While the S24 does a better job of sharpening all photos, it does a bit too much to the face showing way too many imperfections. In other words, I look better when I do a selfie or back camera shots on the S22 even after making some adjustments (e.g. tone and smoothness) on the S24. Try that comparison and see what you think.
I do like the selfie pics on the S24 Ultra. I think that's probably one of the few things Samsung got right 100%. Also, the 4K portrait video is very good. The rest, though it's not bad in general should be better and needs further improvements. Thank you for watching the video. Stay safe.
