a lovely restoration, must just point out that this is a range safety launch, the TTL' were larger vessels, (68ft) powered firstly by Rolls Royce Merlins, then in my day with marinised Gryphon engines, very fast but a pig to work on, happy memories, so great to see people prepared to preserve an important part of Air Force history.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to see this magnificent vessel out on the open water being used for where it was intended. I am a very old friend of both Norman & Marge Kidd the former owners and feel they would both be delighted to know what you have transformed 441 into. The restoration whilst taking time is first class and a credit to you both, And seeing her out on open water made me green with envy and reminded me of the many happy times spent on her with Norman VERY WELL DONE.

Watching this TTL at speed stirs emotion in your blood, although my father has passed on now (Alex Swan) he would have loved to see this, it gave me warm chills and I was his daughter. Lovely boat and lovely film. Well done.

I served at 238MU RAF Calshot (Southampton Water) for a short time in 1958/59 where air/sea rescue boats were maintained and repaired/renovated. Shortly afterwards, the work was transferred to RAF Mount Batten, Plymouth and Calshot closed. They could certainly shift!

Reminded me of a wooden launch looked just like that with an old Frog engine I use to play with 40 years ago lovely restoration 👏👏

Smashing, Alistair and Marion -- a memorial to those everywhere, past, present and yet to come, who charge into harm's way to save lives, not take them.

It is not an air sea rescue launch, it is a, Range Safety Launch. Air Sea recue launches were manufactured by Vosper with a length of some 64 Feet, this is a seaplane tender, or range safety launch..

my boss had one of these in the '60's that he kept at Pin Mill near Ipswich and I often wonder what happened to it.

When I was a kid my Dad used to be a marine fitter on the air sea rescue boats and pinnaces. He was based in Felixtowe, Cyprus, Egypt, Falmouth and Gibralter. I used to get taken out for fishing trips on them.

What a lovely restoration well done ! My Grandad was in the ASR in the war from 1939 to 1945 he even made great friends with Dr Gorden mitchell (he was in ASR) the son of R j mitchell and where they where friends till the day my grandad died at the age of 90 ! He did tell me some stories of his time in ASR but can never find any pictures or info about the ASR boats he was on, any help from anybody would be much appreciated, I also think one of was called a whale back.

I think you will find that this is an air sea rescue launch commissioned by the RAF in 1941 to rescue downed pilots.

Great to see 441 back to her best, I was a friend of Normans back in the day the boat was in Stourport and spent a few happy hours on board with Norm and Geoff Bird. Are Alistair and Marion relatives of Geoff Walker who Norm used to work for and owned the good ship Kempsea II ?

What engines did you replace the SM-6s with, I think that was what were in before you bought her.

there is one of these for sale right now on ebay. I was going to buy it to restore until I read it was wooden build. Steel or fibreglass I would have bought it. even though I'm a joiner wooden boats are a nightmare maintenence wise. but something like this completed would I guess be worth it
