Raag Palas Kafi- Violin- Dr. Sisirkana Dhar Chowdhury-Part 1

Renowned Violinist Dr. Sisirkana Dhar Chowdhury--a disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit V.G Jog, is ranked among Indias premier exponents of Hindustani classical music. Sisirkana has performed frequently on All India Radio and Television and is a 1997 recipient of Indias prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy award for her contribution to the field of Hindustani classical violin. This performance is in Raag Palas Kafi and was held in Milpitas, California on July 25th, 2010. She is accompanied by her student, Raginder Singh Momi on the violin and the tabla is accompanied by Surjit Singh Bawa and Keyur Ganekhar.

My big brother Prof Mrinal Sen , who lost his life to Covid on 21st May 2021, in Kolkata, was her ardent disciple. He was such a genius that his playing on violin was so subtle and captivating that with his demise , his countless disciples have become almost rudderless! My Pronam to Didi and my deceased brother in this opportune moment!

i was a student of her from1972 till '81 at golpark ramkrishna mission. I was just a kid then, class 1 student. we used to call her 'mashi'. I remember, she used to tune our instruments by her ownself before every 'rewaaz' session, i remember, how she tapped my small head with her 'Chhor" when my little fingers didn't hit the right note, I remember the divine sound she produced even with our small violins. I used to get amazed by her tall and powerful feature, yet so loving towards us, some three-four kids.

Panditaa Chodhury makes the violin speak (VAD) like the human voice with so many overtones and nuances that it is incredibly beautiful! This is true violin VAADANAM. Music as Naadaatmikaa Vaak! Divinely inspired violin! The right hand plays an equally important role with the left.
