I had a panic attack last night. It was my first one. It was horrible. This is my ring tone and my phone went off. My favorite person in the entire world had called me to make sure I was okay. I wouldn't have heard it over my crying if it wasn't such a familiar noise. Also this song has helped me through pretty much everything. Including this.
The lyric where he says that one half of his heart is free and the other half of his heart is asleep hit me hard because it's so darn relatable. He has said that "sleep" in other songs represents a spiritual death, an emptiness (this is also confirmed in Car Radio with "there's faith and there's sleep... Faith is to be awake".) So basically what he's saying is that sometimes he feels close to God and other times he's not even sure of His existence.

I just listen to songs like this and realise how sad and depressed young tyler actually was, and it just makes me so sad and like cry, but like the whole world is so lucky that he was strong, and carried on through the tough times and didn't give up on life, because now his music can help so many people who are in situations similar to his.

It's so rare to find an artist this advanced so early on in their career. Obviously Tyler has improved a lot, but a lot of great artists have solo albums that really suck, not Tyler though. He was great right from the start.
in case no one knows this, almost all of tyler's old songs, especially the self titled album, is about God or has a strong christian undertone. for him it wasnt just the music that helped him, it was because he was singing to and for God
I wish there could be one incredibly large room with all of the clique family in, and Tyler , and Josh. But instead of them performing, I wish Tyler would just sit, and look out to the crowd of us ALL and just understand that we all understand him, that he isn't alone, I wish this could happen, where we would all just sing songs like this to him, just sing them out loud , where he can listen, he performs with such conviction, he deserves all good in his life, he has helped many, I hope he knows he is understood. I relate to both this song and your comment so much... you're right, being a Christian does not give you happiness. It gives you peace in the end, but in the moment sometimes its hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. What I've learned through my journey through depression, though, is that God really is there. He may seem to be invisible sometimes, but he is walking with you every step of the way. I wanted to die too, and sometimes I wondered if God really loved me. But now that I'm out of my dark tunnel, I can see that I would not have survived without Jesus. And I see that my depression, although it was horrid, can be used in God's name to help others. I can tell them my story so that they know it get's better at the end of it. Stay Alive fren. It's hard to be suicidal and pretend that you're a perfect christian on a Sunday. Telling people "I'm fine." when you're not is like poison, it hurts to hide. Anyone could sit in the pew and sing a song but still be broken inside, but just know that there is hope, and God really doesn't want you to try to be perfect, He just wants you as you are.

Ohmaigawd. No. You can still be depressed and be Christian. Who ever or whatever made you believe that you can’t be both is 100% wrong. Everyone needs to realize that Christians aren’t supposed to be perfect. We’re allowed to mess up and we can be forgiven unlimited amounts. That isn’t an invitation to not try to be good tho. If you’re depressed and you’re a Christian and someone doesn’t like that, just ignore them, or, if you want to, you can correct them. I think being fake is more blasphemy like than being depressed. Pls. Talk to your leaders and peers and God and get your depression worked out. It doesn’t belong in anyone. ANYONE. You deserve happiness. And, with God, you can find it. Just don’t give up. In God’s eyes, the only failure is giving up. So, as long as you don’t give up, even if you mess up infinity times, you can still reach your goal.
Sorry for the rant. I’m just really enthusiastic about people being happy. I personally have acted like that “perfect Christian” a lot of my life. Hiding my emotions bc I think as a Christian I’m supposed to be happy 100% of the time. It’s still a struggle for me, but.. just don’t hide yourself. Things can’t be fixed if you hide the problem. If there’s a hole in the wall and you just put a picture in front of it, there’s still a hole that will probably get bigger if you don’t fix it. So, fix your problems, don’t just cover them up.
DOMT feel weird you’re allowed to enjoy any type of music and sad music is good in small dosage too, and I don’t think you need to have depression to listen to top, it’s probably better if you don’t have it while listening to them cause listening to them as a depressed teen fucked me up for years, (6years later I’m better yay)

Here is a little fact of the word blasphemy if you google the word you get the definition and the definition is: Blasphemy is the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence to a deity, or sacred objects, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable. They are so amazing and are ten times better that at least half the people you listen to! I barely knew the kid but I know what it feels like to feel like she did, and I know it's the worst ever and I can see how it brings you to suicide. But don't you dare think it won't effect anyone else. I barely knew her and I was upset. Imagine her family. Her friends. So, what I'm getting at is, even if you feel unloved now, know that you aren't. Find someone, anyone to talk to. Hell, talk to me. But know that there are people who can help you and that more people care than you think.

I see this song as Tyler wanting to know God more but its hard because of what he's going through. So he's doubting God also referring him to an "empty sky". But he doesn't want to stay that way forever, he wants to be alive meaning he wants to enter heaven when his time comes. And at the end God is telling him to repent and forget the past because today is gone and tomorrow is sure to come.
This guy is my inspiration right here. I write songs about these types of struggles (anxiety, hopelessness, severe depression, loneliness, suicide, secrecy, etc.) but Tyler Joseph, I think God put this person in my life to show me that I have my demons and I always loved music and I love expressing myself through it. I relate to both this song and your comment so much... you're right, being a Christian does not give you happiness. It gives you peace in the end, but in the moment sometimes its hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. What I've learned through my journey through depression, though, is that God really is there. He may seem to be invisible sometimes, but he is walking with you every step of the way. I wanted to die too, and sometimes I wondered if God really loved me. But now that I'm out of my dark tunnel, I can see that I would not have survived without Jesus. And I see that my depression, although it was horrid, can be used in God's name to help others. I can tell them my story so that they know it get's better at the end of it.

Everyone needs to realize that Christians aren’t supposed to be perfect. We’re allowed to mess up and we can be forgiven unlimited amounts. That isn’t an invitation to not try to be good tho. If you’re depressed and you’re a Christian and someone doesn’t like that, just ignore them, or, if you want to, you can correct them. I think being fake is more blasphemy like than being depressed. Pls. Talk to your leaders and peers and God and get your depression worked out. It doesn’t belong in anyone. ANYONE. You deserve happiness. And, with God, you can find it. Just don’t give up. In God’s eyes, the only failure is giving up. So, as long as you don’t give up, even if you mess up infinity times, you can still reach your goal.
Sorry for the rant. I’m just really enthusiastic about people being happy. I personally have acted like that “perfect Christian” a lot of my life. Hiding my emotions bc I think as a Christian I’m supposed to be happy 100% of the time. It’s still a struggle for me, but.. just don’t hide yourself. Things can’t be fixed if you hide the problem. But don't you dare think it won't effect anyone else. I barely knew her and I was upset. Imagine her family. Her friends.
So, what I'm getting at is, even if you feel unloved now, know that you aren't. Find someone, anyone to talk to. Hell, talk to me. But know that there are people who can help you and that more people care than you think.

I see this song as Tyler wanting to know God more but its hard because of what he's going through. So he's doubting God also referring him to an "empty sky". But he doesn't want to stay that way forever, he wants to be alive meaning he wants to enter heaven when his time comes. And at the end God is telling him to repent and forget the past because today is gone and tomorrow is sure to come.

This guy is my inspiration right here. I write songs about these types of struggles (anxiety, hopelessness, severe depression, loneliness, suicide, secrecy, etc.) but Tyler Joseph, I think God put this person in my life to show me that I have my demons and I always loved music and I love expressing myself through it. I hope one day my songs could reach out to others, just like how my inspiration Tyler here did.
