I have a lot of feelings and theories about the twin flame phenomenon... At one time, I believed in it, and I believed I was with my twin. Once I took off the rose colored glasses... I realized what I was actually in was a mediocre situationship with a narcissist who triangulated me with another woman, disrespected my boundaries, and returned to his "old ways" (he was a recovered addict of 2 years when we met, and he relapsed when the other woman showed up at his house drunk and then she never left until 2 years later. Both of them bullied and harassed me when all I wanted was my peace - I had made the mistake of moving next door to him when things were still "good" - and I use quotation marks because in retrospect, it wasn't good at all.) Yes, this experience was a catalyst for me to start choosing and loving myself more, and it seemed that he just regressed and also made me the enemy because I stepped away and asked to be left alone. Some of the readers I was following at the time pivoted and started revealing that the "twin flame phenomenon" was actually just a pretty way of saying "trauma bond" and it all started to make more sense to me. The readers who romanticise these connections and encourage the chasers to not give up on their alleged "Divine Masculine" and to have unconditional love for them were really encouraging women with unhealed trauma to allow someone to continue abusing them in the name of unconditional love. As a reader, I will not abide by that. I truly think that people mistake the twin flame connection for the narcissist/empath trauma bond, and encouraging anyone to stick with it and be patient is very dangerous. In my readings, when my clients bring up these subjects, I always steer them back toward loving themselves and practicing detachment from the connection. "If they wanted to, they would," "I don't chase, I attract," "Unless he's in diapers, you can't change him," and "Unconditional love does not mean unconditional tolerance of abuse" are the mantras that I give to those women who are very clearly being suckered by people with narcissistic tendencies. I think during lockdown I jumped timelines and ended up on one where I am more grounded in science and taking things at face value. I'm now happy being single and enjoying the peace and freedom that brings.

I completely agree with your assessment that most situationships that identify as twin flames are empath-narcissist trauma bonds - I couldn't have put it better myself! That's why I say that aligned twin flames are EXTREMELY rare, and I have almost never encountered them amongst my clients. Even the connections I describe as 'unaligned' are most often not true twin flame connections, merely trauma bonds where one or both of them are unable to let go. I think the struggle is that when you are IN the connection you cannot see it for what it is - it takes time and space for the clarity to come. That is why I preach the idea of 'Loving from a distance' - because it is often the first step in a healing journey that ultimately reveals the situationship for what it really was: full of shadow. I am extremely sceptical of most twin flame connections but I have see some, a tiny few, that are genuine.
