🇺🇸Occupy Wall Street: Surviving the Winter | Fault Lines

  • When Occupy Wall Street faced violent police crackdowns around the country, most people thought it had come to an end.
But the protesters had no intention of abandoning a movement that had already brought out thousands of Americans to demand attention to the country's economic inequalities. Hundreds of protests and actions have continued around the country.
"The economic, political and social conditions continue to deteriorate and as a human being - it doesn't matter where you're from or what your history is - you'll always revolt against that," says Amin Husain, an Occupy organiser.
Fault Lines looks at how Occupy Wall Street continued to build itself through the winter months by following key organisers through planning meetings, days of action and assemblies - and how the movement must battle political co-optation in a US election year.

I don't think it's about success or failure, it's about doing what you think is right regardless of the outcome.

We'll see where this goes. One of the bedrocks of America is the respect for private property. The economy is doing better.

This made me feel inspired again, and that what's happening in Occupy Los Angeles & Venice are unique but across the Occupy about Co-option, Non-violence and finding Justice in a time where our only power was a ballot. We are the 99%!

This movement has the potential to create the space to allow Obama to be the liberal that his candidacy suggested he was.
The New Deal was not signed into law because FDR wrote his name on a sheet of paper. It was because there was a social movement around this.
The same is true of all progressive change, it is driven by social movements first, politicians only secondarily.

I couldn't agree more with you. It's amazing that we still can't even get it on our cable packages. It's even harder to believe our government actually bombed their studios a couple times. But they did, and its true. Crazy times I tell ya. Spring is here!

Fault Lines on AJE is one of the best new programs. It is professional, exceptional and one of the best new programs of this era.
The North American "media" could learn something from this great show. In depth, great videography and a point of view other than that of corporate sponsors. Excellent!

Mulch Diggums corporate welfare, sub prime mortgages, and crony capitalism coupled with bailouts of the large at the sacrifice of the population is not about "own inabilities" but leavening many with high student debt unemployed, or highly unnder employed

If it weren't for Aljazeera & a few other indepentent media outlets, we would be living in a completely corporatized media blackout! I believe Occupy will be like the civil rights movement (a long struggle) and will eventually bring about a society no longer based on the so called "free market" or capitalism but will shift to a much more just humanistic model.

You can't compare multiparty system to TWO Party System in USA. OWS could be a political party in any other country but not in USA because they wouldn't get corporate support. When you have 2 parties and it's made difficult for any other party to enter the politics, you have a system where richer get richer and poor get poorer.

OWS has evolved. It's called Take on Wall Street. A sign for the cynics on UA-cam, that this will not end. It changes with the times. Get with it and look at your position. Where do you stand in future history books? On the side that's hard or one that was easy but apathetic?

It seems like the Occupy movement is dying down. Their main power is awareness. Without anything new, the news (the main source of 'awareness' for the American people) will not cover it. I wonder what would happen, hypothetically, if the movement became violent. I wonder if their voice would be heard more then?

  • @jabeydeera

From the beginning of the OWS movement RT has covered a better picture than Aljezeer. In this video too I noticed some RT clips. Aljezeera is sporting the 1% class. I'm also wonder why after a long time Aljezeera published this footage.

  • @jiminy_cricket777

None of the substantive part of your comment actually contradicted anything I said.
And I find it amusing that you're trying to tell me what a liberal is when I make it my business to study this stuff in a serious way. But you just have a bunch of lame insults and capslock.
Your claims that he supported business deregulation (a liberal position), 'bs health care' (nothing to do with GWB, and also liberal), warmaking (also liberal), etc. all show that he was indeed liberal.
