- Stoke City's Rory Delap had some monster throw ins..

There was one time a player prevented a ball from going to a throw-in and, instead, knocked it away for a corner kick. That's how scary Delap was
Boaz. The quick-thinking goalie
Rory Delap; the Juninho of throw-ins.
Juninho the Rory Delap of free kicks
This can honestly be more devastating than free kicks as there are no offsides on throw ins
And the ball doesnt come from the ground, so he can throw it in a straight line and it barely loses any power
Delap made history with his amazing long throw.
I miss this era of the premier league
It's a shame we never saw this against Pep's Man City
You miss it because it was before the days of 115 fc cheating their way to the top...
@NotAnotherTheory it was Chelsea cheating back in those days
@@krispynachos9980 yeah, but what about that big fancy watch Sir Alex bought Howard Webb? What about Fergie time and all that?
@@NotAnotherTheory indeed mate.
Like a bloody siege engine! I think it was the speed that did goalkeepers as it just hung in the air and they couldn't decide to stay or come for it. It always caused chaos
I've never seen anything like it! Brilliant!!
Love how the entire stadium goes silent on some of these throws
Dude must be feeling like the main character to silence everyone like that
I don’t understand why every team doesn’t train one player to do this every time.
Very few players can throw it in like that. It’s a talent in itself.
Do you also not understand why every team doesn't train one player to be Messi every time?
For this, you need a guy who has the talent in football to make the Premier League and also be a competitive javelin thrower, like Delap was.
What do you think, how frequent is that combination?
Don't you think if it was just about training a guy, every team would already have done it?
@@andrasszabo1570 Yes, seems like a trainable skill.
even if throw-ins can be trained as any other set-piece, but you need something more for THAT. Rory Delap used to be a pro at javelin, and that gave him an upper ground in terms of throw-ins
@andrasszabo I disagree. It's more likely that being a throw-in specialist is not exactly glamorous, compared to the traditional skills of dribbling and shooting. And it's not a case of asking everyone to do it, you need one volunteer. Actually most teams usually have a guy who has a longer throw which they exploit when possible.
He was a professional javelin thrower ❤
I was studying his technique closely and I noticed that he springs the ball back behind his head just before throwing. And his hands are all the way back behind his head when he throws. That's where the power comes in.
Indonesia has Pratama Arhan, with similar throw in skill
No. He's not flat bullet like this. He's curved style
@@abraham8178arhan can do both of that, depends on the situation. His assist throw against timor leste was like delap.
He has the potential to be like Delap
Who cares 😂
aga beda kalau diliat bang. si delap bisa curve nyamping banana
In college, I saw a player run forward, plant the ball on the ground, flip over it, and heave the ball into play.
Just incredible feat.
Was it Voga Wallace of the University of Virginia?
Hands are more sensitive and accurate than feet.
Captain tsubasa type of thing
Im old enough to remember him in his Derby County days..shame he never started these long throws whilst he was with the Rams.
Haha that was unreal. Who needs a free kick when you can just chuck it into the box. That dudes abs must have been strong AF. Do sits ups while a person sits on his chest. I wonder how fast he can bowl a cricket ball
The quarter back of football
It seems so successful, you wonder why teams don’t scout for more players with this skill? Like they used to for 3point shooters in basketball.
I’m gonna download this so it’s not lost if it ever gets taken down.
0:44 you can’t score right off a throw so the keeper could have let it in and they would have a goal kick, right?
Yeah but at the same time, you don't want someone beating you to the ball to then make it count.
yes it happen 3 days ago indonesia vs jordan afc cup .... pratama arhan score 2 goal with his throws ... but only second goal count
Rory Delap has been reincarnated and is named Pratama Arhan
His technique is absolutely insane.
Fascinating
Now, how about Arhan Pratama
The streets will never forget..
corner-kick's from the sideline, lol!
Ricardo Fuller appreciation comment
Pratama Arhan spends 2 hours watching Rory Delap’s throw-in compilations and 3 hours practicing daily
His long throw was amazing but it would piss me off the way he’d take ten minutes drying the ball and fannying about before taking each throw.
what happens if he throws it in the goal without any1 touching it, goal by hands?
No goal
goal kick
Can't score from a throw in unless it touches a player first. Also ChatGPT is a great source for all sorts of answers to infinite questions
Legend⚽
This is crazy.
lol
There seem to be many more mistakes as well as bad positioning by defenders and goalies than in goals from corners. It almost seem like defenders and goalies ware still taken off guard (or is it possibly related to the unusual angle at which the ball enters the penalty area, compared to corners and assists ?)
But could he do it on a cold Wednesday night at Stoke?
do they count as assists?
Yes
I don't get why nobody does this. We used to do it all the time in school, it always worked
On a full sized pitch?
defenders are too good these days
Because teams don't have competitive javelin throwers on the pitch and anything less is not enough against a PL defence on a full-size pitch?
Not in fullsized pitch.
@@agungredking9160 ...there you go. It takes a lot longer for the ball to travel into the area on a full sized pitch. That gives defenders longer to position themselves. That's why only a few people like delap are able to deliver the throw with enough speed and accuracy to make it effective.
Delap should off came free with crouch...
Kick it out for a corner don’t give away a throw in ffs!
He gets an assist for this right??
We have Arhan in Indonesia
As good as Rory Delap was at throw ins, Manuel Almunia was as bad at goalkeeping
Made a mockery of stoke this, reputation as a long ball horrible team club and ultimately town
he got that alabama rizz
what
?
@@CuteShibaI think he meant he looks a little inbred
Some of these aren't legal throw-ins, pay attention to his feet. Stil lvery impressive, but slightly unfair
It's like 30 years since the era when refs cared about throw ins. These things happen 10 times per game by now
Drag of the foot is allowed
Yeah Stoke used to get the benefit of the doubt from referees all the time otherwise they would be blowing up every 30 seconds. Almost everything they did was a foul
Delap > De Bruyne
I find throw ins silly. It's supposed to be Football, not Handball.
can i have my 1:53 back what a waste of time
Now Indonesian Pratama Arhan has the same skill
The fact this is 2 minutes long is crazy
2 minutes straight with no replays
lol yeah I thought it was going to be like 3 clips with the buildups and everything
there was a kid at our school 15/16 who could do this, it was horrific to defend against
True , idk how is this better than corner kick, its just better
@@chairulmaulana1963 Because corners are either in swinging or outswinging which the gk can come for
A throw in is just direct and fast, almost like a knuckle ball so you'll have trouble getting your head to it to clear it
Also, you can’t be offside from a throw in.
@@MasterControl-MCPyou cant be offside from a corner too
@@everyone1liesd459 Also the main reason is because you can't train against a throw in like this. You can train to defend corners.
0:25 okay this one is absurd
That ball was absolutely launched.
Why?
@@zielaq87bore off
@@zielaq87he arrowed the ball directly onto the guys head from 25 yards out
@@zielaq87did you really have to ask that question?
I loved every minute of his throw-ins as a season ticket holder. Pure drama, pure theatre, pure brilliance. Sorry Arsene !!!
Never understood how he wasn’t a bigger part of the Ireland team, who scored the vast majority of goals from set pieces
I saw Delap in one of his early games (vs Mexico). He didn't take a single throw in. I remember Harte taking them.
Just goes to show that Mick McCarthy was tactically clueless. Remember this is the guy vs Spain in 2002 who confessed afterwards that he didn't even notice he was playing 11 v 10 in ET.
He had a rare gift, because if players could just do this, they would. There's been mutterings of coaches trying to get players on teams to do this, but I've never seen it work.
This team probably practices throw ins as set pieces
Of course they did their average height was 1.90 cm at the time the tallest team in the PL 😂
Of course. Stoke football was the classic long ball style football. Win a corner, throw in or free kick, score a goal and defend the lead
Is this considered an assist?
I was thinking the same thing...just googled it and yes they are legit assists
I’m a water polo goalie. This is our most common throw down pool.
Dude probably played water polo and got a cannon for an arm
He was a javelin thrower in his youth apparently!
@@carlclancy I used to hold my school javelin record, and I could reach at least the near post with a throw in. I was skinny as a racing snake, so it wasn't muscle. I could just sling it, I don't know why. It's in the whip.
Delap took it to another level though.
@@UncleNewy1 probably a combination of technique and strength at that point
@defeatstatistics7413 yeah he would obviously practice this every day, plus his strength and fitness.
But it's a natural thing to begin with.
I was asked all the time how I did it, but all I could say was that I just could, don't know how exactly.
I used to sort of 'body pop' from my knees up to my shoulders and then sling it.
I’m surprised teams don’t try to train someone to make long throws.
Liverpool had a throw in coach i think. But may be it depends on the ability of the person as I dont see any improvement in that dept
Especially that there's no offside from throw ins
Very hard to do a talent not many have and cant be trained. my mate could do this in school was crazy he is a unit
Teams that can't play do this
If it was just about training, why do you think teams haven't tried it?
But you need specific talent for that training to get you such results.
You need a guy who has Premier League talent in football and also grew up to be a competitive javelin thrower, like Delap.
How frequent do you think that is?
Missing Pompey away 08/09
Arsenal worst nightmare
If he could play footy he'd have it all.
Andy Carroll should have been in this stoke squad. Would have been fun.
Fun for the 5 games per season he wasn't injured for.
@@StanKPhlaps yeah exactly, you take what you can get.
@@kenclarke5966 😂😂😂
How about Tim Cahill?
That’s insanity.
Pratama Arhan, take notes
Rory Delap is a goat.
And there was Dave Challinor with his long throw at Tranmere.
I would love to see more big long throws directly into the box like this!
GOAT
That is mad
I remember a keeper once booted the ball out for a corner rather than a throw in at stoke. Myhill at Hull I think it was?
This one? ua-cam.com/video/n5wvHcsB0tM/v-deo.html
@@JPnielsen thanks for that.
@@EvanSaltare You're welcome
His son is playing in the championship on loan he was playing at man city he is very long he is football journey
bruh this is not a luck. this is pure skill eventhought the goal probabilities of this throw in technique is, lets say, under 10%
10 goals+ in long throw attempts
Pure skill😂.
Had Arsene had his way, England would now be out of Euro24. Bellingham's brilliant goal was "made in Stoke".
Arhan inggris
Inspirasi arhan lebih tepatnya
Corners are overrated anyway
0:50 That's rocket
Why aren't they practicing this more?
You could get tons of throw ins a game.
No offside. And thuis is waay more accurate then a free kick
Iceland at that one Euro also scored like half of their goals like this and for a short while some other teams tried to copy it. Should definitely be a regular thing in football, if you play it like this it’s a set piece similar to a corner or free kick
Wiihh pendahulunya arhan nih🤣
This is the most Stoke thing I’ve ever watched
Indonesian football player the name is pratama arhan have same skill
As an American, the only thing I've seen take the same trajectory, is propelled by a certain something anchored to our warships...the rail gun
Those ain't throws, they are freekicks!
I think that, delap be better than neuer
better than sonny's coner
B U N D L E D
Pratama Arhan have it too
Rugby FC 😂😂😂😅😅😅
Because through in can allow you in offside position
Rory Delap: Meta throw in
Arhan: Atlet lempar lembing
Dasar netizen 😂
“But he Sure throws a mean foot- ball duh nuh duh duh duh”
0:50 goalkeeper should’ve just left it and it wouldn’t have been a goal lmao
The only thing were some Sunday League players can be better than pros
Rory Delap has an asian clone of himself, his name is Pratama Arhan. He can do just like RD.
I wouldn’t know this was a thing but here we are. Major respect
now we have Pratama Arhan doing this on daily basis
now Pratama Arhan will continue his step
@01:04 a nice bit of accidental Partridge there 🤣
The deadliest weapon in football!
I want to see more of this. The throw in is so under utilised.
