The irony of an esteemed Jewish scholar embedded in a Utahn research university, where the mono-culture of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) religion surrounds and even interpellates that very same university. If I understand, from brief contact during graduate work at Utah, Mormons seem to have enough Holy Envy to appropriate Jewish identity in their origin myth, to the point of posthumously baptizing Jews who died in the Holocaust ( by secretly purchasing documents of their names). Not having attended this talk, I can't decipher if this topic arises in discussion or not.
