    Clang, clang, clang! This was bloodydamn epic! Light Bringer is without a doubt my favourite book in the series and also easily one of the best books I've read this year. I share all your thoughts! Each part got more and more exciting and by the end I was just breathless. When I saw the title of Part 4 I knew my feelings were gonna be hurt hahahah.
    Great review, Petrik! 😁
    Also, congrats on your booktube anniversary, I can't believe it's been 3 years already. I'm so grateful to have been here from the very start and it's been so lovely to see you grow! Congrats on 3 years! Yesssss! Best book in the series I completely agree. The arc from brash revolutionary to spiritual warrior through these 6 books has been amazing. I will have to make room on my all time SciFi list for this series now.

    I can’t believe you liked it that much, I’m very happy for you. I loved Light Bringer but it remains third as my favourites goes after Morning Star and Golden Son. I have huge expectations of Red God, I usually love endings and Red God has the potential,I think,to become my absolute favourite of the series.
    P.S.Congratulations on the three year anniversary,wasn’t here from the beginning but I’m happy to be here for more than a year already and you’ve become one of my favourite content creators out there,love your content especially SSF Spotlight videos.

      I'll say it's the very least up there with Morning Star. My recency bias definitely think of this as the best right now, but let's see later on. 😁 True, though. Red God might become the best of the series. Morning Star was soooo good!!
      And thank you so much for your support! It really felt like you were there since the beginning. Chatted with your for years now ahhaha. 😄

    Congratulations Petrik on completing 3 years on booktube! And what great book to review on this day. I have been waiting for the Light Bringer review to drop for a while.
    Red Rising has to be one of my top 3 sff series (along with Stormlight Archive and Joe Abercrombie's works). You are the one who introduced me to this gem. Thank you so much for that. I owe you many hours of delight and enjoyment to you.
    Although, I dont agree that LB is the best book in the series; to me it is Dark Age. I loved the dark gruesome tone of the book and of course, Ephraim ti Horn.
    Also, I would love to see a spoiler filled review of the book. Please consider doing one.

    Very well said, Petrik. This book is a return to form in terms of theme and tone. I loved Dark Age(as much as you can love a book that bleak), but it's not an "enjoyable" read. I am never itching to re-read that relentless dark assault. After finishing LB I immediately wanted to re-read it to savor the "bromance" of the 3 involved. Having said that Victra stole the best line: "Don't fear for me, pity them." It will be in contention for best book released in 2023 but won't be the best book I read this year. I have read Toll the Hounds, The Crippled God, The Grace of Kings and Wall of Storms; all of which I would rate higher. This has replaced Golden Son as my favorite in the series though. Cheers on three years and to many more!

    Hey Petrik in your Red Rising recommendation video you used a Pierce Brown quote and I was wondering where you got it becuase I am also making a video on it! Thanks, this was the quote “Whatever you’re told, being an adult doesn’t mean you have control. No matter the power you have, the money you make, the age you become, we all feel a little bit at the mercy of something else - the government, banks, chance, illness, our bosses etc. That’s what Darrow is dealing with in RED RISING, the fact that any control he thinks he has over his own life is a mirage. But he does not despair. Instead he decides to break the chains and live for more. He sets out to create his own future.
    The fact is, we don’t have complete control over our lives. Never have, never will. That’s ok. The point is, rather, to take control over the parts of our life that we can and live those parts in precisely the way we want. That is living for more and that is what Darrow is fighting for.”

    • @PetrikLeo
      @PetrikLeo  Рік тому +1

      Hey! Unfortunately, I remember that quote from an interview I saw in the year 2017. No idea why, but I can't seem to the find the link to the interview anymore. Which is a shame, it was such a great interview, too. A good reminder for me to always attach a link when quoting someone! :')

    I am currently reading Iron Gold and my anxiety is peaking. I understand and value what's happening with Darrow, It feels realistic and it makes sense. But 200 pages in and I find myself craving for him to have a win of sorts. I need him to be praised by those who are judging him. I need for him to have an I told you so moment soon. I can't have him be hated by everyone. I understad him being hated by many, but it's exhausting. I binged throught the first 3 books but I can't help but feel reluctant about reading the rest of Iron Gold with what's happening with Darrow. I know everyone says Dark Age is great but I cant help but feel anxious and nervous about the story.

    I'm gonna disagree and say the high score is not well deserved at all. This was definitely the weakest book of the series for me. SPOILERS
    That amazing battle set up on Phobos with Virginia's POV was the peak of this book imo. That's where the decline started .
    There were too many characters who did complete 180s from their previous attitudes and instantly forgave past crimes etc.
    All the parts with Ajax, Athena, the Daughters, Volga, Gaia, etc felt completely off and rushed.
    Several parts of this book grated on me, Sevro being an annoying c**t for 3 books, Darrow being a self flagellating "I'm evil and I should die" for as many.
    The various plotlines, the Figment, Oculus , Quicksilver, etc all being dropped after being built up for books was pretty weird. (Although I can see why Pierce would want to show Lyria rejecting the alien tech, just to contrast against Lysander, who embraces all evil, just like that total new potential
    Deus ex machina weapon Brown pulled out of his ass at the end.).
    Also, are we just supposed to accept that Volga, who is this sensible and well-meaning character up till now, is easily turned into the evil obedient progeny of Volsung who rips out hearts of ppl for him ? Ridiculous. And ofcourse, Lyria forgives her instantly. Because that's just how Pierce writes characters now I guess.
    A lot more characters felt totally unrealistic, like Ajax's switch from trying to assassinate Lys in previous books and being a snobby bastard but now he suddenly turned into his bestie bro in Light Bringer, probably just so Pierce could give that emotional impact by his death or something. The whole Daughters subplot was outta nowhere as well and felt shoehorned in at the last minute.
    The part after the duel ended and Darrow is hopping from Island to Island after Volsung felt ridiculously corny. As well as the glaringly obvious death flags for the entire book before Cassius dies at the end so it didn't have any impact at all.
    After I finished the book I was left completely confused as to why this book was written. I don't see why Pierce decided to just do a repeat of the previous book, show us Lysander's PoV and try to make us sympathize with him, etc and then at the end turn him into mega Hitler once again. Wasn't that the entire purpose of book 5 ?

    • @PetrikLeo
      @PetrikLeo  Рік тому +3

      Ah, too bad it did not work for you, but based on your answer, I think anything I say won't change your mind. But I literally disagree with almost everything you said, the result of them for me anyway, like this: "The part after the duel ended and Darrow is hopping from Island to Island after Volsung felt ridiculously corny. As well as the glaringly obvious death flags for the entire book before Cassius dies at the end so it didn't have any impact at all."
      This part lost me. I think it was absolutely badass, one of the best sequences I've ever read. And the impact of the death? So damn heartbreaking. For me, so what if the death flag is obvious? That did not diminish the impact at all.
      You're not alone, though, there's another commenter with the same feeling and opinion as you here. So despite many of us loving the heck out of Light Bringer, at the end of the day it just goes to show a book is a form of art and it will never click with everybody. :)

    • @MFDOOOOM
      @MFDOOOOM Рік тому +2

      @@PetrikLeoYeah that's very true haha
      To be honest, even though this is my least fav in the series, I still wouldn't say it's a bad book and I'm still excited for the final one. My only lasting pain is that final new deus ex weapon introduced, I feel like Pierce already does a great job of writing battles and armies , so it wasn't really needed, and I hope there isn't a cheap and unfulfilling use for f that weapon.

  • @JARHuygebaert

    Was I the only one who was dissapointed by Light Bringer? It felt hollow, with weird decisions, forgotten plot points, weird character motivations,... I dont think Brown knew what he was doing. Dark Age was so good, this is just a lot of meh

    • @tgibridays
      @tgibridays Рік тому +1

      Yeah maybe. I didn't feel like it was hollow at all. I think a lot of the plot points from Dark Age not addressed in LB will likely be addressed in Red God other than the Lyria thing which I'm okay with in context, though I can see why others would be upset about it.

    • @PetrikLeo
      @PetrikLeo  Рік тому +3

      I definitely disagree. I actually think it feels like Pierce Brown has been going for this since Iron Gold. There were few plot points not explored like the Abomination, but there's still Red God after all. So I assume that will be answered in the last book.

    • @JARHuygebaert
      @JARHuygebaert Рік тому +1

      @@PetrikLeo It's more than just the Abomination. It's also Figment and Volga's character. The Sevro storyline with the Chair was also forgotten (or he hopes we forget). Also, Darrow went the opposite way of what he was doing with his character in Dark Age. I can't say everything that I felt was wrong about this book, but it was a huge dissapointment. Well written, of course, and with lots of good parts too, but so underwhelming.
