This is to ensure a safety barrier in case the LP gets incapacitated for some reason, the Co-LP can bring the train to a halt safely or is able to contribute equally if there is a high stress situation and the LP is pre-occupied with other things. With other trains that dont cross 100 km/hr, particularly goods and passenger trains,it isnt much of a risk. Also, no matter what, an ALP's job is to bring the train to a halt and contact the LI. He must not attempt to drive it to the next station or navigate it under instruction.

I am railway employee and i see hundreds of train daily.so plz go and check your data.and alp is there if anything bad happens than alp knows that much of driving that he could take that train to next stoppage.

That person is senior alp. And go and ask again to your uncle if your uncle is lp or any other staff in railway he will correct you may be you misunderstood him.i saw daily rajdhani duranto shatabdi every type of train.none of them have 2 middle aged person in cab.
