My brother was murdered by his wife. Dr. Phil invited my family, but we passed. My brothers wife's family agreed to come on and basically told a story with fabricated facts unchecked. They said if we didn't like it we could come and respond, we passed again because we didn't see a purpose or point. Her family came on again after my brother's wife was convicted and put in prison. Once again we passed and Phil sided with them. Screw him.
What the fuck? It's so shitty of Dr Phil to try to turn your tragedy into ratings AND side with the killer. That's so awful. I'm truly sorry for your loss and that your family had to go through that.
I remember the day my opinion of Dr Phil changed. Two parents brought their daughter to the show, and talked about how terrible she was during the opening scenes. My mom and I were ready to see her be a problem child, but during the interview I found myself sympathizing with her more and more. Her parents were quick to shut her down and throw allegations her way, while she sobbed and tried to defend herself. I don't remember what caused it, but the mom cut her daughter off with "She's just being dramatic again" after a serious allegation she made. I remembered hearing that line from adults when I came to them with real problems. It seriously made me reconsider what a victim is, and how Phil sensationalizes them. I couldn't comfortably watch the show after that.
Yea, I felt similar after I saw an episode from two years ago where the woman was so drunk it felt irresponsible and unsafe for her to have her on stage. I realized he was promising a magical cure for her problems if she allowed him to humiliate her. He is just exploiting people at their most vulnerable for money. I didn't really agree with a lot of what he did before that, but I hadn't realized the extent of everything until that episode.
I love how Phil said "your only duty as a parent is to provide food and shelter" (which is horribly incorrect), then has no problems sending kids to a ranch which deprives kids of... food and shelter.
That comment almost made me cry. What a ghoul. I was raised by a parent like that and now that I'm a parent, my kid is everything to me - I can't imagine thinking he has to "earn" his right to exist when it was MY choice to have him, not his ...
I love the fact that my abnormal psychology textbook had a whole section about how Dr. Phil renounced his license to practice so that he didn't have to follow the APAs media presence guidelines in order to lie and present factually incorrect/outdated information
I thought his license was taken after he coerced a patient into having an affair with him. This actually (sadly) makes a lot more sense. It's pretty messed up either way.
@@hithere911 I looked into it a little more, one website says that patient of his filed sexual assault in 2003 but I couldn't find any other sources mentioning it. The source also mentioned an incident where a woman was sexually assaulted at a facility he sent her too as well as general creepyness towards young women. I found a Quora post saying it was revoked by the board for complaints of sexual advances however every other source says he renounced it himself, although I could see him renouncing it in order to avoid further investigation by the board.
Aside from the sexual assault (hopefully anyone who does such a thing, especially to children, rots in prison for life), what exactly do people think is supposed to happen at those troubled kid places? They are a bootcamp of sorts and meant to be a last case scenario for kids who are beyond the usual angsty, out of control child. If you aren't cool with rough situations like that, don't take your kid to one. If you are cool with it, do a lot of research before choosing one bc there is a long history of similar places going well beyond what's legally, ethically, and morally correct. It's great to want to straighten out your troubled child but you don't want them scarred for life, physically, emotionally, and/or sexually, in the process.
You know, if we completely ignore the alcohol-giving accusations, the Todd episode was still wrong. Todd could've DIED on the show, and he was not immediately taken to the hospital after using the breathalyzer. Regardless of how Todd got that alcohol, Dr. Phil was SO close to having a body count on his show.
Honestly, I think the most telling thing about all that and lends Todd's story the most credence was that "Dr" Phil already had a breathalyzer in his pocket ready to go.
I thought he already has a body count. Didn't one of the kids who he sent to the ranch die because of the ranches 'treatment.' At least people would have known Todd had died.
I've always thought that daytime therapists like this were insanely exploitive to people in need. It's not therapy - it's using a person who genuinely requires mental help to entertain, while publicly shaming them and cementing the perception of them as who they are in their current state. It doesn't matter what kind of strides a person like Sexy Vegan or Bhad Baby make, or if they even become "normal" in simplest terms. They are forever going to be known to the world as who they were when they came for help. Dr. Phil may come off as a comforting and approachable presence, and I won't pretend he doesn't often give good advice. But the fact of it is that his profession often needs to be a private and vulnerable thing, and his platform turns it into a circus for people to look at the freaks. And he knows this, because it's made him rich.
Sexy vegan will never have a comeback in my opinion. He was talking about having sex with a dog. There's no coming back from that. Forever gross and inappropriate.
@@TheCorporationTShirt he reminds me of my father- a false veneer of approachability hiding malice, spite and an overblown ego with the strength of wet paper
I’ll never forget when the couple were on and the girlfriend was really physically abusive. The boyfriend was describing one of the awful attacks and mentioned how he’d tried to push her away to defend himself. Dr Phil had the evil audacity to ask how he dared push her. He doesn’t give a shit about victims.
I think my biggest problem with Phil was his “the parent is always right” mindset. Or just pandering to the older audience. Teenagers are going to act out but sticking to a “these kids are so entitled mindset 😮💨” that completely took the blame off of parents always seemed so unprofessional
He’s very southern and traditional when it comes to family. Which I agree is completely gross. He really does take that raise your kids like livestock thing to a whole new level
especially after 9x out of 10 the parents either did a shit job of raising them or act so much like children themselves that they didnt raise them at all and act completely flabbergasted as to why their kid acts out, yelling and screaming, hitting etc when the parents behave the same way (like a giant toddler), the kids copy the parents exact behavior and the parents act like thats impossible and unheard of
There was one clip in this video when Phil was saying to the parents something like, "You put a roof over their head. You feed them. That's all you're required to do for them." Holy Shit! And these parents are seeking HIS advice??? Damn, I really do feel bad for those kids!
my friend’s older sister was on the show - the producers lied about the narrative for her episode, blindsided her, and put her face-to-face with her abuser on air after promising he wouldn’t be part of the show at all. it’s completely irresponsible to do that to victims of abuse. i haven’t trusted him or his opinions/advice since.
@@plutonium2 can’t say for sure, as I have no idea who OP or their friend are. But if it’s the episode I think it may be. The producers promised the guest her abusive parent wouldn’t be part of the show. Right up until she went on stage. Only for it to be absolute lies, then when she reacted badly, dr Phil demonised her for her behaviour.
I hate how he told her"no one tells me who to put on my show" when all she said was she very strongly asked for her not to be on the show. He could have said he thought it would help or something bit no he just shut her down and demean her in front of millions.
every single guest that questioned the very nature of the show has had Dr phill come down on him like a ton of bricks, the creator of bum fights (the guy who dressed up as phill when he came on the show) said a similar thing before dr phill kicked him off. but he was certainly no angel.
The worst part about his show to me is that as a trained clinical psychologist (although his license was renounced) he has a thorough understanding of what is troubling the people sitting in front of him and why. He understands the most likely reasons, causes and thought processes of for example the girl who thinks she is Pocahontas, that there is a mental health issue at play yet sees no issue displaying it on air like he did and even reinforcing it through media play. As psychologists and counsellors, we are trained to look at our patients' lives through their own eyes as well as our own and understand their vulnerabilities so we can acknowledge and treat them together. Dr. Phil however uses this training to spot potential for mockery and entertaining his audience through the suffering and shame of his guests. It's so predatory.
Yeah. It's really awkward with the severely mentally unwell people. The person who thought they were a dog comes to mind, where Dr. Phil is literally just saying "lol get a job."
@@DevinOngo Big jump to go from a tween/teen acting out to saying that it is because of a personality disorder. Kids act out for all sorts of reasons when their needs aren't being met, if it is as simple as someone stepping in to adjust things in the household then no personality disorder, just dysfunctional parents.
Seeing Todd on the set so drunk, hearing how they placed vodka in his dressing room on purpose after he’s sober, and how drunk he was actually broke my heart.
@@qpwoeiruty850 even if the whole vodka thing wasn’t true, someone in that desperate need of actual help should have been taken to receive that help not put on national television
@@harmc2301 yeah Phil exploited him for ratings. You dont put people on air like that. But the guy is famous and used to being filmed... I wonder if he wanted to be filmed. He was clearly crying out for help, no doubt. I dont know. We are adults and make choices and those choices have consequences. Sadly that still applies when we are under the influence.
@@crowwithashortcake well he's actually in his total-right to doubt someone suffering from substance-abuse. just because they're victimes of something on their own, dosn't mean they can't LIE or have flawed-perceptions about their situations. in fact, that's one of the things that caracterize them the most, a desperate need to get their fill even if it's at the cost serious things. lying to your spouse to go to the bar, lying about needing money to use it to feed your addiction, lying to authorities to hide your lack of sobriety, there is also a awful lot of lying and deceiving yourself that play a major-role into substance-abuse, it's called "being in denial". ask someone who's starting to get a substance-abuse, and i believe most of the time they'll tell you they either can stop whenever they want, or it dosn't affect them. substance-abuse might be one of the condition that affect the most peoples and how how much trust you can put into them. if something VERY OBVIOUSLY under the influence, and if they looked like they had DECADES of substance-abuse (like a "crackhead") asked you for money, you would obviously immediately doubt their motives and you might even get scared of not giving them what they ask. actually, what is very wrong on both a moral-point and just as a opinion on the matter, is to argue that you shouldn't doubt them at all, it's both extremely irresponsable and dangerous. just because someone suffer from something, dosn't mean that they're meant to be blindly believed. it's very unfortunate, but again substance-abuse weight HEAVILY on peoples-minds. i think his outlook is a more healthier than yours. i don't agree with him, but showing doubt is definitely something rational, plus he didn't seem to express any contemps. he made an observation, and then expressed his doubts and his reasoning in a matter of fact way. on the other-hand your comment sound passive-agressive.
He tells people to cut off contact with their abusers, then when he put a girl on his show with her abusive mother, he acted like she was being self-righteous by *FOLLOWING HIS ADVICE!*
The scene where a girl explicitly asked Dr. Phil to not have her mother on the show and Phil not only ignoring her, but berating her for being upset set me off. Dr. Phil brags that he knows the human mind. Claims he’s a safe person. And yet he crossed a VERY clearly set boundary. If I was in her position, I would have opted to leave. Phil proved himself to be uncaring at best, and dangerous at worst. We don’t know what torment her mother put her through, and confronting her mother too soon could cause long lasting psychological damage. For shame, Dr. Phil!
He said "I control whoever comes to my show". This is abusive behaviour towards that girl. He is such a narcicisstic person who just abuses people who think he is their only chance of help.
Seriously, a child doesn't say, "I don't feel safe around this person" for no reason. Even if she didn't explicitly use those words, anyone with some common sense would have paused for a moment and looked into what was going on instead of just writing her off as an entitled brat the way that Phil tends to do with any minors on his show.
@@spectralumbra1568 The worst part is she wasn't even a child, but nobody can be blamed for assuming that because that's how the show presents it. She was an adult who cut ties with her mother and Dr. Phil blindsides her and then starts waxing about needing a "responsible parent" around
Omg same! A few years ago I went on a Dr. Phil binge where I watched as many clips on UA-cam of him that I could find. It started off with me mostly agreeing with the things Dr. Phil was saying, but I became increasingly uneasy the more clips I saw. That clip was the final straw for me. It made me livid seeing the way that girl was humiliated on the show. The girl was even mature enough to remain mostly calm and dignified even after her boundaries were clearly crossed. Even in the comments section people were all agreeing with Dr. Phil. It’s incredible how so many people are lacking in empathy and common sense.
I would not at all be surprised if there isn't a contract they sign before appearing saying, we'll pay for your round trip flight so long as you complete the interview - or something like that so that you can't storm off when stuff like that happens.
I remember seeing Bhad Bhabie talk about this for the first time and feeling really proud in a way for her to come forwards. The fact that he came forwards and pretty much said "we're not responsible for what happens to guest afterwards." You CAN NOT SEND KIDS there and then say you're not responsible. I forgot about this comment. Thanks for agreeing.
Like so many liken to them who volunteer to abdicate their implied contract (universal law) not to exploit a fellow sentient being for their own gain or gratification, to instead skate by on the much flimsy and infinitely malleable laws that govern the superficial material World. Most imbibe it ad nauseam, absent-mindedly which gives them tacit endorsement.
"We're not responsible." Yes you f*cking are. He should be researching where he's sending these kids, if he doesnt, hes being neglectful and should still be responsible. And if he does know they are bad places and sends them anyway knowing full well something bad could happen to the children, then he is an accomplice and still responsible.
Danielle Bregoli is a good example of "I may be dumb, but I ain't stupid." I'm glad she got to tell her story. The fact they had people that drunk and that high on stage is disgusting. That drunk man needed to be taken to the hospital, not questioned. That pregnant woman clearly couldn't consent to getting "help" no matter how many times they repeated it to her, because she was barely conscious. What she needed was to be brought back to the hospital if he was really that worried about her and her baby.
I think Phil shit his pants a bit, when he heard her speak. He probably didn't except she could go on the offensive with logically constructed arguments.
She was never dumb... she was very intelligent even at the time, just not the kind of intelligence that comes from books and formal education. I think she was too intelligent for her own good as a young child and the adults in her life didn't know how to nurture that. She wasn't a typical child who's will is easily broken or who's opinions are easily suppressed and supplanted by those of their parents... I'm sure her acting out was due to her parents and other influences being sub-par, to put it nicely.
Dr. Phil is so popular not because people want to see guests on the show getting better, but because they want to see an even worse trainwreck than their own lives, laugh at them with the audience, and justify the terrible way they go about addressing these issues that are mirrored on screen in their lives because Dr. Phil does it that way. It is very unfortunate that the majority of population is either too stupid or too uncaring to where such shows and personalities will continue to thrive
Exactly ! Without this "peeping Tom" audience, Dr Phil would have been cancelled for a long time. I cannot understand the "guests" either. If you have a serious issue, would it be better when shown on TV ?
@@misstoujoursplus For some people, the free treatments offered by these shows is the only way some of them can afford it. Jack Saint did a really good video about the Jeremy Kyle show that goes into it further.
There was an episode where a man was constantly being abused by his wife, and asked Dr.Phil for help. He had called the police multiple times, but his wife was never arrested because she always played the victim. She sent him to the hospital on multiple different occasions. He couldn’t leave because she said she would take away his children. Dr.Phil told him he needed to man up, and that it was his fault he was being abused. That’s when I stopped watching Dr.Phil.
Unfortunately, that's one place where his lack of valid psychiatric licenses doesn't change anything: in the US, anybody endorsed by the APA is obligated to treat all cases of partner abuse between straight couples as being the man's sole fault. It's called the Duluth Model, and it was literally written to boost private prison revenues.
@Cincoat What gets to me is that it's not just Dr. Phil, it's society. Yes we're finally moving away from old and outdated ideas (slowly). My sister's dad was able to win custody because objectively speaking he was the better parent for her. Stable, working, owned a home. Meanwhile my mom was sporadic, broke, homeless even at one point. The judge made the right decision in having my 6 yr old sister live with her dad. Men on the emotional side are almost always put down, laughed at, ridiculed. How dare he get abused by a woman? How dare he cry about *anything*? It's sad and evil because we're all human and a man is just as capable for providing and having custody as a woman can. It's this disgusting attitude towards them that causes many men to not even seek medical help (physically or mentally). Because while the doctors or professionals may not laugh, the male's family or peers might put him down the moment him needing aid is known.
Here’s the thing: Dr. Phil seems to assume that the guests need him, when in reality, HE is the one who needs his guests. Without his guests, his show could NEVER exist.
That's actually very insightful. I didn't think of it that way but it's so true. The whole "You need to go to X clinic, Y treatment and Z professional" and shaming his guest's response (without any solid rebuttal) is disheartening.
dr phil’s “apology” after danielle bregoli talked about her and other kids’ experiences in that abusive ranch made my blood boil. how are any of these companies still allowed to exist??
As someone who's been in one of those programs, when the Dr. Phil craze was going around on UA-cam I always felt a certain disgust and uncomfortableness from all the memes about sending kids to the ranch. I'm just glad that we're at a place now where that behavior and those places are being more publicly condemned. The amount of concern and genuine disgust I've seen in just this comment section alone towards "wilderness therapy" programs has honestly been very relieving. Some small part of me never stopped questioning whether I was wrong for hating the place I went to. I thought maybe it had actually helped a lot of kids, and I was just an exception who felt like I had been traumatized by it instead.
@@gregorypanDw, you can say PewDiePie, it disgusted me back then too. Very glad that people are finally opening their to the depravity and abuse going on in these camps. I'm glad they aren't a thing where I live, but in the US (like almost everything) they're a booming industry. Specifically in Utah, a state notorious for being terrible in dealing with child protection. Just look at the recent 8 passengers incident. The influence the mormom church has on the state def has something to do with it. Extremely upsetting.
Dr. Phill takes seeking a second opinion as a personal insult when it's a mandatory part of treatment sometimes. My dad would have gone under the knife for his cancer if he hadn't gotten a second opinion and found out it had already spread, making surgery useless.
I spent a few years going to the same gastroenterologist when I was in high school for Crohn's Disease. She was an older lady who really seemed to know her shit, I didn't see any reasons to doubt her. However over the course of 3 years I kept deteriorating, no matter what type of pills I would take. Finally, after 3 years when I finally started to get in really bad shape, she sent me to someone else for a second opinion. The doctor looks over my chart, goes over my history, and point blank tells me that the doctor I had been seeing was clearly stuck in the past. Most of the medications I had been on were outdated, a handful of them not even used to treat my condition because they were found to be ineffective. I had essentially gone 3 years completely untreated, with only steroids to control the flare-ups of my Crohn's Disease. She ordered a colonoscopy and found that I had gotten significantly worse since the last scope that was performed, and also that I was likely misdiagnosed (extremely common when it comes to ulcerative colitis and Crohn's Disease). She made the scary accurate condition that if I don't find a medication that works, I would lose my colon to the disease within 2 years. Fast forward 2 years, I lost my colon to ulcerative colitis June tenth, 2021. I had started seeing another doctor, but by that point it was too late for them to make any meaningful impact on the UC. TL/DR Second opinions are extremely important. If you have even a shred of doubt about the effectiveness of the treatment you are receiving, get one. It's easy to see an older doctor (like Dr Phil) as being really knowledgeable because of how long they've been in the field, but the medical field is constantly changing.
@Timbob Jr Not to mention the fallacy around giving celebrity's opinions more value than they should (I don't remember if it has a name). Like Gwyneth Paltrow's "health" and "wellness" "company".
My sister had a friend who actually went on doctor phil. Her friend was struggling with a drug addiction because she had an extremely traumatic experience with waking up next to her boyfriend who passed away while she was sleeping, so she used drugs as a way to cope with his death. Instead of being a voice for her and to treat her like a human who experienced trauma, he talked to her like she was a monster and that she was a bad person. It's really sad.
@@lilac2238 I'd have to ask my sister on how she is doing now, but I do think she told me that she is doing okay. This was brought up between us because there was a point of time when my sister and I wanted to take a family member on the show for a while, but then the friend told my sister her experience, which is why we never went. I cannot even imagine the severe sadness and pain it is to wake up to someone you love dead. Edit: I was even thinking about linking the episode here, but I do not want to spread that awful experience around and want to hide her identity because I am not sure if she'd want that attention.
@@Kawaiikooo Oh holy smokes I saw that episode on UA-cam! Pretty much all of the comments were in support of her and criticised his approach to her! A lot of the time the episodes on UA-cam are good because you can read how people react in the comments and they are more enlightened to how the approaches are not always ideal and are more supportive of the guests. Dr. Phil is a monster! The episode that proved this was involving a father molesting his daughter. The parents were no longer together, so the father had visitations. The mother had long suspected he was harming the daughter and would protest outside the courthouse and his home with signs and other people. Dr. Phil ripped into the mother and said SHE was crazy. When the mother would pick up the daughter who was about 4-6 years old, she would immediately say, "I had a great time and dad didn't touch my privates". Dr. Phil even framed the show as the "crazy mom was over protective mom going through any length to ruin a father daughter relationship". WELP, the dad was eventually arrested for possession of CP and distributing it. Dr. Phil invited the mother back on the show for damage control, but by that time it was too late for him to save face. I hated him ever since.
My mom would not let us watch Dr. Phil when I was younger. She didn't think it was appropriate. She also didn't let me watch The Cosby Show or Ellen. It's been interesting watching people who my mom was wary of being exposed.
My parents didn’t allow for talking head shows either. They couldn’t always exactly put their finger on why, but usually it came to whether they got a sense that there was some kind of bullying in the dynamic. Parading people’s suffering or casting them in a bad light. At this point in my life, I’m pretty grateful for that. I didn’t miss anything but cognitive dissonance and idolatry.
Ever since I saw him berade the guy who defended himself from his abusive wife while saying NOTHING of the same to her, Dr. Phil can go kick rocks "End the Silence on Domestic Violence" MY ASS! EDIT- Thank you for all the likes and replies. And here I thought my comment would just get lost in the ether like it usually does.
For me it was when he decided that a convicted murderer and rapist was innocent after sitting down and speaking with him for an hour or so. Yes, let's ignore the fact his DNA was found inside of a 12 year old victim of violent stranger rape - Dr Phil just "felt" like the man was innocent. Just so happened that Kim Kardashian thought he was innocent, so it is understandable that his thinking would coincide with hers as the great legal mind that she is... Having failed the BAR exam 3 times. Anyway, this also has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that all of this was promoted by Oprah. Nothing at all.
@@machinegirl03 I ain't a bug, I'm convinced it is a function of UA-cam intentionally put in by Google. This was never an issue years ago, and comment sections were much better for discussion. I think, perhaps, UA-cam do it to ensure that while comments sections are active, they aren't too active. "I don't give a shit what you think, I'm concerned about your baby" Ah, yes. The best way to treat an expectant mother struggling with addiction is by completely not caring about her (which you would need to do in order to TREAT the addiction)...
I might be wrong, but I don’t think it’s indicated to go off drugs while pregnant… the baby will also go through withdrawal and one can’t control that kn the womb…
That pissed me off so much. When I was doing my sociology degree, we had a woman who specialied in drug recovery come in and talk to us about drug addiction whilst pregnant. She said it's safer to give the pregnant woman her fix because withdrawals can kill not only her, but the baby. It's why doctors don't recommend smokers quit cold turkey when pregnant.
@@aleanef I know people who have been put on methadone, they say that it is actually harder to get off - the only difference is that you are having it dispensed to you legally.
I think one of the cases that officially turned me away from Mr. Phil was the woman who abused her boyfriend and Mr. Phil essentially told him he needed to man up and bend to her requests. He had very real concerns and desires and Mr. Phil acted like he was the villain for asking for the bare minimum of respect and human decency, but he turned the whole crowd against him like he was a dog.
@@D_YellowMadnessI think the statement itself is less about people hating dogs, and more about how humans can so be so calluses to a life they deem as inferior to themselves, in this case being a dog, as historically speaking they have been used and abused for just about as long as they’ve been humanity’s best friends.
I don't like Danielle but she doesn't come off as a liar. She never has. She speaks truth whether her mom likes it or Dr Phil. She never denied her bad behavior.
Yep this is true. I also believe a person shouldn't be empowered by bad behavior. What I mean is, behavior that makes it hard for people to approach you. We're social creatures and eliminating opportunities of potentially being helped or even a way to surround yourself with more positive influences can possibly be detrimental emotionally.
@@hinachan70 considering how shitty her mom is. i get why Danielle is like that. Her mom is a user who brought random men to the house and i bet most of those men were fucking creeps. so its better to be abrasive and to start swinging if ya dont want to be harmed. also we're social creatures to a point. humans have and will turn into isolating creatures if the society has proven to be detrimental to their survival.
But is the reason you don't like her because of the messaging propagated by doctor phil. Sure she's a character but like she's a teenager in an uncomfortable and defensive situation who put on a bravado for camera. And she was a young team when she went on the show and became a national village. Who among us didn't have a cringey teen phase and would it be fair if a random stranger decided to hate us a decade later for that?
@@falconinthedive put me on Dr Phil at that age and I would have been unbearable. Smug, smart assed and very good at turning arguments on the person I was arguing with and an absolutely unstoppable fiend for intoxicants.
He lost me when he said that women don’t need to spend a night away from their husbands, especially with girlfriends. “What are you, a teenager? You need a sleepover?” he asked. For me, the answer is yes. I love my women’s retreats. Mediation. Healthy eating. Knitting. I love the time away with my girlfriends.
Music is made by the space between the notes. Time apart for both enables them to reflect, miss each other and have experiences that can be talked about when they reunite. Additionally it takes the weight of being responsible for the entire weight of the others emotions and need of the partners. Of course some people may feel different, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it in general.
I just found out that after a 20-year absence from the screen, Shelley Duvall is actually going to be starring in another horror movie. There was a writer in 2018 that did a retrospective on her, saying that it didn't feel right for this Dr. Phil appearance to be the last word on her legacy--I fully agree, and I'm glad this isn't the last time we'll be seeing her.
As someone who's been prescribed opiates for yrs, when i got pregnant i immediately wanted to stop taking them. I was CORRECTLY told that if i abruptly withdrew from opiates i would have a very high risk of miscarriage. The plan before i miscarried was to continue using opiates under dr supervision. Which is the COMMON AND SAFE WAY to continue a high risk pregnancy. What Dr Phil did to that young woman...the position he put her in and then shaming the mother...is disgraceful. Even having her withdrawal for a day, for the show, could have killed her baby.
We had a family friend who went on Dr. Phil who was struggling with alcoholism and she was sent to a good rehab center. She said the center was really good and helped her a lot, but that Phil was mean and nasty. She was thankful for the center, which she wasn't able to afford, but she HATED how she was treated on the show.
I wish more people who went on the show for serious reasons would share their experiences online. You only ever hear from the people who went on for the more dumb superficial episodes.
@@666kittycat666 Indeed, it's someone exploiting the lack of a social system for personal gain. But the ones responsible for that are the government not the one exploiting it. the exploit is disgusting, the fact that people who need help don't have another option than being exploited by lack of alternatives is legalized crime. The solution is simple. Every cent of tax on liqor should go to financing free rehab clinics first, only what is left over after having an overcapacity in the free clinics can go to the government to spend on other issues.
Well, she got what she needed. I would go to get my health issues and trauma addressed. What is 1 hr when one is too poor to afford help? It is well worth it. Just not turn about.
@@shellyslioneyes The show was such a crap shoot, though. Some people got good aftercare and some really didn't. I don't think they knew what they were really going to get until after they did the show.
As someone who was raised in special needs schools and has spent time in similar """treatment""" facilities I believe every word the cash me outside girl said about the ranch. These places (special needs schools included) are absolutely abusive and fucked up and something needs to be done about them.
As a mother of a special needs child, this breaks my heart. But also confirms my worst fears about those facilities. I'll never ever put her in one and hope when I die there's enough money for her to have personal care. At home.
What gets me is that Phil was more keen on sending "destructive" teens to the camps and such instead of actual therapy. Listening to what they do and how they act just screams impulse control and ADHD/Autism, at least to me, a teen who struggled with angry outbursts and impulse control who was later diagnosed with both. But no, they're just treated like delinquents. They're not listened to, or taken seriously. I used to watch the Pewds videos where he would react to the teens and them being told "Hey, we're literally gonna kidnap you and take you to a facility against your own will" and laugh. But now it just makes me sick.
@@I.See.That.Youre.Mentally.Ill. I think it will be fine If you do your research and be in good communication with your child. My mother recently pulled my brother out of an abusive special needs preschool the second she saw any red flags and prevented any significant damage. She found a new one that seems much better but we'll see. I personally suffered a lot because I didn't get a n y special care as an autistic child. I think it's important to look for opportunities but be very cautious.
When Danielle came out with the accusations on behalf of the other girl, my opinion on her completely turned around. Speaking out for someone else like that put her ego aside to help someone and I believed her completely
While I’m not a fan of her, I do feel for her. I think her childhood was quite messed up, when you consider she was the sole provider for her family after she got a lot of publicity. Mind you, she was still underage at that point, and went through going onto the show and the whole ranch thing. Also the whole thing with her making an OF the day she turned 18 just didn’t sit right with me. I definitely suspect she was exploited by her mother.
I genuinely believe the allegations. Danielle was sincere in that clip, something she isn't when the cameras are rolling. I feel bad for her, glad that she seems to be doing better and I hope that her family isn't exploiting her, even though it may seem like her mother is. Idk, her mom raises red flags to me and I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out she was using her daughter similar to how Jeanette McCurdy's mother used her.
kids that have been sent to behavioural camps are generally known for their truth telling. without proof, any reasonable person wouldnt jump to an assumption
this idea that sending "bratty" children to these horrible places just gets me so angry I can't even properly put it into words. Like the fact that a parent can send their children to these places and say I love you in the same breath is just disgusting
Agree….and there seems to be no incentive or guard-rail for these “troubled teen” companies to say “nah…..I can see why your kid is mad, just look at your whole family!!! Not a surprise.” There are real teens that are going wrong on their own, but could easily be a decent kid in a bad situation, but it’s the parents who pay to hear “you are fine….it’s just the teen who is bad.”
It speaks volumes that Danielle came forward as a means of support for someone who had been assaulted. I never saw her episode but I remember going to high school with girls like her. Often times girls like Danielle while abrasive and quick to jump into a fistfight it was never out of just pure spite. It was their fight or flight always being on edge. This was her dealing with trauma. The fact that she comes forward about her experiences not as a way to get support for herself but to lend support to another person who went threw something much worse says a lot about her. I think it was about calling out Phil's bullshit but it was more about shining a light on the fact that the abuses only happen because of the power Phil holds. No one listens to the "out of control teenager" but they will listen to him when the out of control teen most likely needs to be taken seriously and listen to!
I can also attest to that. For how people go "how dare that girl be so disrespectful", I've known quite a few girls like Danielle B, and most after talking with them longer than a amonth aren't usually remotely near bad people. It seems more like a harsh exterior that's used honestly to ward off dudes more than other chicks. Not saying she's good--definitely behavior issues. But like lots of gals like that I feel get more harsh treatment than dudes who act arrogant and materialistic. Like how gals like her display feminity is seen as inherently problematic.
@@weasel7491 very much so. I don't agree with the behaviors that she had I don't even really agree with a lot of things that she has done. But I do have a sense of empathy as it seems like a lot of this sort of I will fight you no matter what attitude. Comes more from Danielle thinking that if she doesn't protect herself others will not protect her and if she doesn't ward off certain people by coming off as this hard very gangster girl. That she's about to get hurt herself. I don't have a degree in psychology. So take this all with a grain of salt but I feel like anyone who has been around girls like her know that that comes from a sense of feeling like the world is not going to protect you and the people around you are not going to protect you so you have to do everything you can to protect yourself. The most fucked up thing is that someone like Phil holds a lot of power because of the moniker of doctor because he's seen as this psychologist who helps people whereas Danielle was just an out of control teenager. There was no need to look at the systemic issues that may have created the problem in his mind there was no need to address a lot of the things that were causing this. Apparently before being put onto the show to like make her look like this horrible human being her mother have been going through Cancer Treatments at one point. She had an absentee father who had moved on and started off a new family will never supporting his first child AKA Danielle either emotionally physically or just financially and so you have this girl who's basically been disowned by one parent not for anything that she's done but just because that parent has decided the new life they have no longer can include their original child which is fucked up. Then you have her mother who is now a single parent unable to fully support her child emotionally because she's having to work so many hours to ensure that she can financially support that child. On top of that you've got puberty you have a lot of tells that she's going to a title one school and may not feel the safest at school doesn't feel safe at home doesn't feel like she has a safe place anywhere. That does not excuse the behaviors but it does give context to them and I feel like anyone worth their damn would see that. Going back to the fact that she did find a way to capitalize on her appearance on the show I don't blame her. I have at this point seeing clips of it and it seems like they're doing everything they can to bait her into a fight or acting unruly in a way and when she became a meme she capitalized on that seeing away to support herself to create a brand and well again I am not a huge fan of it just because it doesn't mesh with my sensibilities. I see that it wasn't her just being a money hungry little brat it was her seeing a way to finally support herself and find a way to keep herself safe. Like I said if she had just come out and said oh yeah this not on the other had happened at turnabout very few would have believed her and then that's on the fact of the public will oftentimes disregard the experiences of women who have gone through abuse. Instead she supports someone with even less of a platform than her and says this is what happened to me I believe what happened to this girl happened and the person who sent us there needs to be held accountable.
@@photofreak56 please do not feel attacked by what I am about to say, but I am awfully triggered by the fact that everyone here in this comment section feels the need to state that they don't agree with what she said and did in that episode with dr. We don't need to distance ourselves from that! She was a literal child, why are so many people comfortable being nasty towards her because of her actions at 13, at 14-15 she used her fame to financially support her abusive mother, so who of us all had the maturity to do that at that age? My father was in grad school with "Dr" Phil. Said he loved the sound of his own voice. Would take every opportunity to turn a discussion into a lecture of his own, often even talking over their professors. Dad wasn't surprised when Phil went into TV because he thought his ego conflicted with actual practice. Everytime Phil was in the news, my father would go on a rant about everything unethical about the show and its questionable methods
Phil is very concerned with optics. His ex-wife offered pretty interesting take on his character: he was very pressing about how she made him look. He for example pushed her to workout her upper body strength with weights, so that her chest would look bigger.
I know that the character Bull was based on him, I think that they got it pretty close. Scary that he was fine with having that fictionalised version of himself as it does show an extremely self absorbed person who always knows best.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about my friend nikki who was on the show. She was the other pregnant heroin addict. The show went with her to pick up, filmed her doing drugs and all this crazy stuff. It was just wild to see him yelling at her for stuff they were happy to film, & exploit. She's doing good now btw. She's been clean forever now, & is an amazing mom. I'm also a recovering addict, & hearing those other peoples stories/accusations towards the show makes me so sad.
Congratulations to both you and your friend!! I know you must have been through hell to get to a place of recovery, and to maintain it. Well done & wishing you all success & happiness for the future! 👏🙏🙏🌟🌟
That's where I started to really question his tactics and ethics! When he was clearly enabling the same behavior he was chastising the guest, just for content and SHOWING addicts buying drugs, using, shooting up on camera!!! 🫢 I don't think the audience should or needs to see most of the wildly inappropriate stuff they filmed!!!
I'm a recovering heroin addict. When I went to rehab they didn't give us round the clock supervision necessarily snd we could leave if we wanted. They couldn't hold us there. However, there was someone always there and they would check on us every hour while we slept. So Idk. Maybe that's considered round the clock. Also, If these addicts don't want help, forcing them will not work. Might for a brief amount of time but Dr Phil swearing at them and threatening them to get help is so unhelpful and you'd think he of all people would know that. I NEVER got clean from being forced to or from being yelled and cussed at. It's hard watching these people, who just want help, being talked down to 😞
I had to make up my own mind and commit nothing could have forced me to stop short of dying but as soon as I made up my mind I was done I really was done. I have been clean for 11 years on methadone it saved my life I couldn’t stay clean before it and honestly I will most likely stay on it for the rest of my life because I’m a chronic addict Inhave been on some type of drug everyday since I was a little kid on ADD medication I started smoking weed in 6th grade and drinking. I have been on opiates since I was 16 I broke my shoulder and needed surgery after they stopped giving me pills I never stopped taking them and the longest I was clean was 6 months and I swear I was dope sick the whole six months I never got better I just got more miserable and drank more and more just to go to sleep I was uncomfortable until I got high again and I’ll never forget that feeling of relief after months of being sick and not sleeping That’s when I turned into a real addict I told myself I’ll just do enough to be ok but that’s not really how it works I fell hard and it took a long time to make up my mind to get clean now It’s been a long time since I used and unless I somehow get taken off of my methadone I’ll never get high again.
@Devin Ongo no...lmao I haven't met one addict that enjoyed that shit. As a matter of fact I've had 2 boyfriends who had family members that fought tough love would work and they're both dead so no that actually doesn't work. just means that you got sober because you felt like you had to. Or felt embarrassed or ashamed. There is a huge difference between enabling somebody and being too gentle with them and supporting a loved one from a distance without enabling them but also without belittling them
@@fightvale57 Pretty much exactly what it says. Phil had someone on his show who made homeless people fight for entertainment, said someone came on the show dressed as him in a "you and me do exactly the same thing" type gesture and Phil basically noped out of the interview because he realised he could not win without the dude also tearing him apart in the process.
Fun fact: Harsh discipline has actually been proven time and time again not to work in just about any context it’s used. Edit: Probably should’ve expected so many conservatives in these replies, but it’s still a bit annoying I suppose.
True like when I was a kid my parent would take electronics away if I did something bad. Problem was that the only way that's worked to manage my stress was listening to music or playing games. Now normally getting them taken away for a day or two wouldn't be bad but she would take it away for a week at the minimum no matter how bad it was. That was always the base line and that entire time all it did was make me hate my parent because It made me feel miserable. Proof that using harsh disaplain by taking the thing they both value the most but also use for their mental state does not help. In fact it worsens the situation.

honestly as in a bad place Shelley Duvall was in, she seemed really reasonable about her boundaries and what she wanted. you can't force people into stuff and while her downfall is sad it seems she was well enough to go to her own doctors and she seemed very uncomfortable around him and his forceful nature, which isn't. stupid. or insane. it's smart considering he's a powerful narcissistic man and she's seen enough of those for a lifetime.
from the standpoint of getting anyone help, it's generally much better to work with the person needing help as much as possible (if possible). In the US, involentary conmmitment usually can only be done if the person is a clear danger to themselves or others. There's some legal things you can do to get people help, but your success rate of ther person following through with treatment and getting help they need is much, much higher if they feel heard and in control. It's a delicate tightrope to walk; you want to be firm but permitting. Some times the mental help someone already has is.... shit. But even then, it would be worth at least trying and building trust so you don't accidentally drive someone further from getting help.
my favourite "dr" phil moment was when the creator of bum fighter came on dressed as him, and pointed out how they essentially did the same thing "If you think I exploit people, every time you bring a guest on this show you exploit them and spread whatever problems they have to the whole world"
yeah, that moment was fucking incredible. the funniest thing is how fast dr.phil told him to gtfo, he barely let him say a single-sentence, but even tho' he didn't even get to say more than a single-sentence, just his look was enough to convey the entire fucking arguement he was about to make.
Really it is the same. The differences are superficial. Bum fights have a street as stage and food as the motivating prize. Well Phil has a studio set and medical resources as the motivating prize. But both take advantage of those at a bottom point in life for the sole reason of making personal wealth.
I dont understand why so many people still call Phil educated when his education on mental health is outdated by decades now - licensed therapists are (sometimes, depending on the subject matter) required to take updated classes on new findings that updates them on changes and reeducates them; and often they'll put a pause on practice while they do these courses (usually rotating groups of a few of them meet wither online or in class for anywhere between 3 days to 2 weeks depending on subject matter) as I've learned from my partners mother, who got her license the same year Phil did - she herself says that the average citizen is more knowledgeable in mental health now than a therapist that got their education even in the 80's and refuse to participate in update classes. Phil got his license in the 70's and hasn't updated anything since the 2000s - and I don't even know if in the US therapists and Psychiatrists are required to do update classes. Dr. Phil is undeniably, undereducated in Mental Health and Psychology now - and you can hear it everything he's said the past decade. Nearly none of his advice follows anything we now know about mental health, and often his advice leads to more trauma and abuse. There's a reason you will not find a therapist or physiatrist in 2022 that think's Dr. Phil is smart.
I watched some of it and had to check what year it was aired because of how dated it was, but no it wasn’t aired sometime back in the early 90’s when I could have given him the benefit of doubt. If he hadn’t practiced before then he might not have felt a need to update his knowledge to modern day standards, but no it was from 2018 so he’s not just old enough to have fossilised knowledge, he’s still trying to understand the world from the perspective of a dinosaur 😬 I mean in all fairness, he’s a tv show host and his target demographic is mostly old people, so he doesn’t really need to update his knowledge more than the bare minimum to stay relevant as long as they’re still alive. It’s just seeing him as more than that that’s problematic and his behaviour is very manipulative in that people do still seem to think he’s a credible source when he’s only technically “dr” Phil, the practicality was something he decided was more a hindrance than a benefit. He’s a tv show host that in the past has been educated in a field that requires continuous maintenance to keep it up to date, yes, I’m unsure if that’s mandatory in the US myself though, but that should be concerning if it’s not since it’s for every type of medical professional as well as teachers etc, any field that might require an update gets called to have one. There were teachers that barely knew how to use computers because they were educated before they were commonplace, to say that they wouldn’t need to be taught how to use computers before teaching students how to use computers is just absurd, you’d struggle to get any job now if you didn’t understand how to send an email 💀 it would have held children back so much since home computers still weren’t available to everyone by the time people started having smartphone. So similarly for healthcare, mental or physical, delaying treatment or giving the wrong treatment is either a waste of time at best, and life threatening at worst, stops being funny then
Are you referring f to professional development for their license? As a nurse I have to do it too, and can be hours to weeks long. I could see updating of license requirements and mandatory education too and not be aware. Maybe they simplified what they were talking about to help explain it?
The fact tough love is literal child abuse in Norway. Food and shelter isn’t a proviledge here, it’s a right. Not providing that for a child is neglect, removing these is abuse
I deeply hate when I hear parents say it's a privilege to be able to eat, sleep, and have a home to their children. It is right they have that INCLUDING love and care. Clothes and food are A BARE MINIMUM AT MOST!!! it disgusts me that loving a child is a privilege to said child and not an expectation
Reminds me of that lady on yt who punished her little kid for not packing her own lunch and hoped no one feeds her at school, took away her son's bed, and considered dinner a privilege 🙄
I think the biggest problem with Dr. Phil is that he will never, ever, EVER admit that he's wrong. His word is law. He's completely infallible. And he refuses to believe that he's past his time.
I was almost on Dr. Phil as a kid. Back when I was in elementary school my parents were going through a custody battle, and my mom decided to call up Dr. Phil, try to get them to host her, my dad and I, to “sort it out.” They accepted. Dr. Phil’s assistant called my dad saying they had decided to invite us on, and he swiftly hung up on them. Even at the time I thought it was the right decision, I was terrified at the thought of being on television, as a young kid already experiencing the beginnings of depression and gender dysphoria; now I’m a psychology student and am terrified of how terrible the whole system he has going on is.
@@radschele1815 Fine, mostly- my mom got remarried and then divorced again, I'm an adult, life continues. I continue to be glad I was never on Dr. Phil. I appreciate the concern though, don't usually get such consideration on UA-cam comments
i don’t particularly like bhad bhabie but i am extremely glad she spoke out abt what happened to her. she’s my age and only months older than me and i remember when she first went viral. we were CHILDREN. we weren’t fully grown. we were little monsters who were learning how to be people. if i were sent to a place like that it would’ve severely fucked me up so i’m proud of her for exposing him and using her voice for good (for once)
Yeah I feel the same way - it was awesome to see her so composed and confident telling her story.. just goes to show even the little monsters are worthy of everything. She made it so that other kids could tell their stories, which is actually really helping people.
Not only is it awful that she went to such a place, but you can tell that just being on the show worsened her behavior. She probably enjoyed the attention (and I'd assume money) from folks which made her continue. Not ro mention that her family almost definitely supported and encouraged her once she started rising to internet fame.
A part of me has grudging respect that when she came back on the show she was all “This is all fake. I lied so I could leave the ranch.” I would have done the exact same thing.
Sending teenagers with personality and addiction struggles off to the ranch and labeling them as problematic is his worst issue. He never holds the parents accountable, or puts the parents through therapy or counseling when they were the ones who clearly weren’t capable of raising people. Either through abuse or neglect, and blast their kids personal trauma all over public television as an instant fix instead of finding help for themselves and their children.
As a kid that was sent to something similar. I felt like everything was my fault because I was the problem. I am just now as an adult realizing that while my behavior wasn't okay, it wasn't all my fault and my mom is actually really toxic and contributed to my bad behavior/mental health.
In her interview Brigoli doesn't sound like a bad persone . She had behavioral issues for sure . but she's not heartless she does care for other people . I do think maybe al she needed was to know someone cared for her, and she didn't have to act up to be heard . Family therapy might have worked a lot better .
@@Moonage4 Same. And my parents chose the nuclear option first by sending me off for 5.5 months until the insurance stopped paying. Never occurred to them that maybe we needed to try therapy first. By the time I was discharged, we couldn't afford therapy because of the insurance situation. My mother passed 2 years ago and I'm beginning to see the actual ways our family was so dysfunctional now that she's not here to play her particular role. Family dynamics are so bizarre.
It's so brutally ironic that the guy who preaches accountability is so flippant to the consequences of his own actions and affiliations. He'll do anything BUT take responsibility.
Danielle always seemed pretty self aware to me. And the fact that she would say what she wanted to happen even when upset ("get these cameras out of my face") honestly just told me she wasn't "out of control". She'd just found that threats got what she wanted, faster. As someone with anger issues, when I'm *really* angry I can't articulate anything. I can't explain why I'm angry or sometimes know who I'm even talking to. Danielle just seemed... aware? Like yes she swore and yelled. But she didn't yell at first, she told the camera men to get out and when everyone kept talking to her, thats when she started yelling. And the fact she was able to pretend to be turn abouts ideal kid? She was always able to control her emotions, she just didn't want to because acting "good" meant people kept bothering her. Idk I might be projecting cause like I said, I have anger issues and would love to be able to talk when I'm angry. But she just doesn't seem as out of control as dr phil tried to say she was. She just swears when speaking and talks in a kind of sarcastic voice (like the way she talks makes her sound sarcastic when shes not?) but whats the problem with that?
Yeah while I do think she had issues that needed intervention the way they went about it made my blood boil. Like how is making fun of her accent and talking down to her supposed to help?

Doesn't Oz promote a lot of questionable things? My grandma is always going on about " but he's an actual dr he knows what he's talking about" and that may be but he also seems to slap his name on any "trend" pills, diet or whatever else that seems sketchy to me. Just because his name is on it doesn't mean it's good, just means he's getting a paycheck from promoting it
The episode with the girl who didn't want to meet her bio mom always felt wrong to me, I have no doubt someone on the team assured her she wouldn't be there, and Dr. Phil clearly had it out for this girl to a degree that seems extreme considering he has actual killers and child SAers on his show.
What’s sickening is the amount of people that think these kids DESERVE all of this awful shit just because they’re badly behaved. They don’t even do half of that shit is most US prisons. And abusing someone isn’t going to fix their attitude. It’s going to scare them and stress them out and often times bring out more bad behavior. That kid with a history of violence and mental health issues didn’t need “tough love and hard work” he needed actually psychiatric intervention and treatment. These kids need therapy and their families need lifestyle changes. When your dog misbehaves, the consensus for anyone with a heart is that you train them and teach them how to do better instead of depriving them of their basic needs. You reward their good behavior. We should be able to do at least that much with actual human people
I went on Dr Phil with my big sister bc she was suffering from mental health, homeless and wouldn’t get help bc she felt like nothing was wrong with her. But she agreed to do Dr.Phil because she wanted to become a famous singer. I’m usually very chill and I talk to my sister in a respectful way regardless if she just cursed me out for no reason. I’m understanding, but the producers told me to get on the stage and curse her out for all that she been putting my family through and put my foot down to her this is my chance. I got on that stage and still been me. I’m not going to kick anyone while their down especially not for TV.
Did they air the show, or did they cancel it because you wouldn't do what they wanted you to? They don't always air every episode they shoot, if they're not happy with the way it went.
It is actually pretty normal for therapists to have specific treatment centers that they know well and are comfortable sending people to. What’s not normal, though, is shady financial incentives, continuing to send people there after multiple reasonable allegations of mistreatment, and pretending one treatment can work for people with wildly different conditions. I always say people need to start viewing psychology as a medical practice-what doctor phil does is similar to prescribing chemotherapy to people who come to his office with strep throat. Chemo is awful, regardless of your situation, but if you ACTUALLY HAVE CANCER and you go somewhere that can administer it PROPERLY, it’s lifesaving. If you’re prescribed chemotherapy and you don’t have cancer, you’re about to be traumatized for months with no benefits and lasting harm. Residential treatment, especially involuntary commitment, ESPECIALLY for kids, should only ever be used if a kid’s life is actually imminently in danger, and any place that accepts patients for any other reason should be considered criminal. Phil McGraw should be in fucking prison.
In addition to this these treatment centres need to actually be fucking qualified in the first place, be secular and every SINGLE member of staff in there should be throughly background checked regularly. This isn’t the case at ALL for these residential ‘treatment’ centres or ‘therapeutic boarding schools’. The troubled teens industry is a BILLION dollar industry that profits off of the brutal abuse of teenagers and children and all in the name of ‘discipline’ and ‘helping’ them. And kids can and have been sent to these horrible places for the following reasons: having adhd, being autistic, having: social anxiety, BPD, OCD, panic disorders, disassociation, delusions, schizophrenia, eating disorders, for suicide attempts and ideation, for ‘disobeying’ their parents, being gay, being trans, not being Christian or Moron, being a political or climate activists, for disagreeing with adults, for being victims of bullying, for low or ‘bad’ grades, for not attending school (regardless of the reason), for behavioural issues relating to medication or a surgery, having learning difficulties, for ‘poor behaviour’ in school, for ‘delinquent’ behaviour, playing pranks on siblings, sibling jealousy, partaking in substance abuse, running away from home, for normal behaviour in reaction to their parents getting a divorce, fucking bereavement after the death of a parent, friend or close family member, having depression, having trauma from shit like school shootings, trauma from domestic violence, trauma from poverty, kids reporting their siblings or other family members abusing them (particularly with sexual abuse and trying to protect the perpetrator), and I could go on. Most of these children are NOT criminals nor criminals to be like Dr Phil would frame it and are instead victims of poverty, abuse, every single adult in their life failing them and adults being utterly awful towards them and these children are now being further punished instead of actually being helped. Instead of the shitty adults around them taking responsibility for their disgusting behaviour. Because why would they do the right thing, when it’s more convenient to just silence their victim? They have complete and utter control over children and teens and teenagers are already stereotyped to basically be the scum of the earth by everyone in society. They are treated like mini adults with bad intentions and ‘not real people yet’ and thus that justifies adults doing whatever the fuck they want to them. So why would these pieces of shit take responsibility when they can just abuse and strip a vulnerable child or teen of their human rights, who is powerless to defend themself? I mean it sounds perfect doesn’t it, because it’s not like anyone will believe them either. They’re just a silly, dramatic, attention seeking, hormonal teen or a horrible, ungrateful, lying brat who is an evil child trying to tear apart the oh so precious family. Literally fuck ANYONE who dehumanises children and teens like this. These forced labour interment camps that lie to parents about what ‘treatment’ they offer has neglected and abused kids so horribly that they have died in their ‘care’. Kids who manage to escape are gaslit and if they say ANYTHING about the absue they have suffered there that it’s treated as ‘defiance’ and they are sent right back. They are kept there until they turn 26 years old and are no longer considered ‘dependents’ or until their parents run out of tuition money. It is truly horrible and a LOT of staff at these places have criminal records and are sex offenders registers. The fact that any of these interment camps are still up and running is fucking abhorrent. They should be extremely illegal and the FBI needs to investigate this shit immediately. Anyone sending children there, hiring ‘transporters’ or ‘legal kidnappers’ or anyone running these camps should be charged with felonies and serve hefty sentences in federal prison. These camps are something out of a horror story. They located in the middle of nowhere in the wilderness, kids have died escaping them because they know a bear MIGHT maul them in the woods but they’ll be brutally abused if they are caught and sent back. Imagine being so terrified that you’d rather take your chances in a mountain lion infested forest in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere Montana. They put bags over these kids heads so they don’t know where they are going so they can’t escape. They starve them and deprive them of water. Turn About Ranch specifically implements brutal psychological torture techniques to ‘break’ their new victims called the “Impact Circle”. Some of these techniques are considered to be torture in prisons, interrogations and in combat situations. Some of them are literal war crimes. Every single day these teens endure multiple violations to their human rights and no one is doing anything about it because “teenagers are people in training who must earn their humanity” and “surely they must have done something to deserve it since all parents love their children” And this is partially because the US is the ONLY ‘first world’ country to not ratify the rights of the child. Absolutely fucking disgusting. These people don’t deserve grace, they are monsterous abusers and need to be kept away from society, not put in isolated locations with powerless teens and children who have mental health conditions.
Oh for real. Love it when he prescribes them damn life counselors. Like most of those people needed a real psychiatrist to prescribe them the meds they need, or a completely different treatment, hate how money grubbing the healthcare system is overall. It’s sickening really.
The clip of Dr. Phil telling the young girl to go home because of what she said about the audience, and his rejecting her attempt to correct herself is quite shocking. His behavior reveals Phil's character, his ethic and his ego. Not good.....and very disappointing.
When that young woman was upset about being made a spectacle of and then apologized for expressing that and Phil called her manipulative that viscerally disgusted me. I don’t see how anyone could watch that and not come away with a bad taste in their mouth
Yeah, my first thought was a wry "The irony of that jackass accusing HER of being manipulative...". If he actually cared he would have addressed those feelings, but he simply shuts down anything that might be a peek behind the curtain.
There is a reason why actual practising psychologists/therapists never antagonise their clients (at least they shouldn't be doing that). It's not going to help anything, it will probably either discourage the person suffering from getting further help, because they don't feel listened to, or result in them internalising the accusations, and denying themselves the right to express their feelings, because they feel like they might harm someone else by doing so - an unstable mind is fragile, and should be approached with caution, and, above all, understanding. My therapist would never accuse me, or push me into doing/talking about something that I don't want to, because that wouldn't help me on my road to improvement, that would probably ultimately make me close up even more, and refuse help, because of the negative experience.
hearing how the staff (most likely) gave that dude a xanax literally made my jaw drop. mixing alcohol and benzos is literally life threatening. both depress the central nervous system, and slows things like breathing down. it's incredibly dangerous
I remembered being disgusted at that. I had a friend who had alcoholism and got Xanax from a friend one day. More than one pill but not enough to make a sober person act like they lost their grip. I didn’t know about the Xanax until after this friend was screaming half an inch from my eat while I drove, and then decided he wanted to get out so he grabbed the wheel and set my side of the car into a cement pole. I’m barely 5 feet tall so the airbag deployment hit my chest so hard it stopped my heart and the speed (55 ish) broke several ribs, severely injured my neck, and gave me what I would call a “minor” tbi even though my Nero doesn’t say that. I had to be extricated from the car and then have the backboard pulled out the windshield so I could go in a helicopter. The former friend doesn’t even remember taking my phone and breaking it, and taking my wallet from My purse and spending a lot. His family said they had seen him drunk plenty and it wasn’t like that and then then saw him the night of the crash. They said Xanax brought out the devil in him. Idk about that. I do think there is something horrible about Xanax and alcohol let’s it put you and others in dangerous. Stay safe everyone.
Disgusting and predatory for sure. ..but it takes A LOT more than a single Xanax and a couple drinks to shut down the respiratory system. It's most commonly an OD of benzos and opiates that shuts down the lungs. Very dangerous combo.
I’m torn on this one. I really want to believe him and he seemed believable when he said it. But man are addicts experts at lying. They can convince even the most skeptical person they’re telling the straight up truth when it’s a straight up lie. Soooo, scummy (my opinion) television producers on one side and a hard core addict on the other? I’m not believing either of them.
Dr Phil is from my hometown, no one ever speaks about it out of town because Oprah suppresses it, but he was chased out for abusing his clients. He got them dependent on him and had his way with them, he’s been trying to come back for the last couple of decades but the local university and psychology community won’t accept the millions he’s tried donating because of how deplorable his actions were
@@HappyBazinga I tried to pull up resources on this for you but I just spent over an hour trying to find old articles and posts I KNOW I read at one time pertaining to this but I can’t find ANYTHING. Can’t remember if it was one or plural. But typically when there’s one in cases like this there’s more.
@@mrs.elentz2336 The patient that was mentioned in the video he was only sanctioned for having her work for him, the sleeping with part was considered unfounded. He kept his licence until he was sure the show was a hit and dropped it in 2006 after confirming that he didn't need it to run the show (show is considered entertainment, not therapy). As someone who had been to one of DR.Phil's camps that he sends some people to, I can tell you if it was meant to better people? I can safely say it did far more damage then it did any form of help. Was 16 at the time I believe, but it's an experience i'm never forgetting. Wasn't exactly sent there because I had behavioral issues, but because that it was a recommended camp by DR Phil and his team and it'd be a great healthy experience for young people like me to grow and such. All the local water fountains contained rust in them. Lake guide talked about how he was caught sleeping with one of the girls attending the camp. (Seriously, who does that/admits to it!?) Most food was contaminated. (Nearly had to visit the hospital after 3 days of not being able to use the restroom.) The people on the show are a tool for the audience entertainment, and unfortunately also products to sell dumb ideas onto vulnerable adults.
My aunt sent my cousin to one for drug addiction. He came out still being an addict, but with PTSD and an improved ability to lie and steal to feed his addiction. Fifteen years later, he's still on that track, to the point where I was surprised to learn he was alive. He had such potential, too, he was charismatic and smart, but he just couldn't come back from it.
I’m a recovering alcoholic/addict of 20 years. I know this guy’s type in the recovery industry….stay away from people like him. He solely abuses his leverage over people with no credibility to fill his pockets at the expense of their safety and well being knowing that no grievance any guest ever has can and will easily be dismissed because of the illness they have. That man does not care about you.
I always enjoy how the different segments are presented by different editors. They are all great, and the variety keeps me focused and entertained beyond just listening to TRO's analysis.
He is the downfall of the Western psych world, was how I explained him years ago to my Mother. Anything he did on his show was the complete antithesis of anything I was taught while obtaining my further education. But..ratings, I guess. Just found it alarming how many people took everything he said as the psychiatric gospel truth. I'll blame Oprah for ever giving this man a starter platform.
I agree. He's one of the main reasons why no one trust therapists anymore and during this time we're in, they're making so much money off the misery of everyone. Even if this thing goes away, it's far too late.
@@Ziko577 People don't trust therapists because of prices. Shotgun in my country costs as 8-9 visits of medium price therapist, or as 1/8-1/9 of the entire monthly salary

It really upset me seeing the reaction from the public to Danielle's video. It was mostly vitriolic hate and disgusting sexual comments. She's already famous. She's already rich. She doesn't need to call out doctor Phil for clout anymore. These places are toxic, abusive, and cult like. My friend was sent to MN teen challenge for drug addiction, was assaulted, and later took her own life. The troubled teen industry is so fucked up and I wish more people took it seriously.
@purplehaze2358 Unfortunately, I get this reaction a lot. People thinking she was weak or laughing at her memory. Her parents shelled out thousands only for the staff to abuse her in every way possible. I still speak to her parents so her memory can stay alive.
@@Mercer45X Wow, that’s literally the mentality actual abusers use against victims for putting up with their abuse. That’s a red flag if ever I’ve seen one.

2:12:30 She was absolutely correct when she said that Dr. Phil's show was making a spectacle of her. Phil pulled her off the show because sometimes the truth hurts. He's not offering therapy, he's making a sideshow. Edit: Forgot how much he hates cancel culture. I guess he feels it's different as long as it's his show and he's doing the cancelling.
Canceling has always existed, but it's typically those in positions of power who are perpetrators. Now that the internet has allowed an opportunity to for less powerful people to speak up, suddenly it's a problem.
in contrast, there’s a youtube channel called Soft White Underbelly where a guy interviews addicts, sex workers, homeless people, abuse victims. he never interrupts or pushes them to give horrible detail. he just listens to them and allows them to tell their story in a safe space. you can tell some of these people really needed to let it all out and explain what happened to them. it’s a great way to bring awareness to societal issues without actually exploiting victims of those issues. the guy even creates gofundmes for the people he interviews and helps them get housing or into rehab.
I was hooked on heroin/opioids for 8 years. You cannot tell me that someone on Dr Phil’s staff couldn’t get a suboxone for that woman instead of filming her in skid row. So crazy. I knew many medical professionals who went out of their way to illegally attain withdrawal reducing medication for their patients who couldn’t afford it, just to help them not relapse.
They absolutely could have, by legal means. They absolutely could have called an on call/crisis doctor or nurse practitioner for a few days' worth or even a single dose. Suboxone is by far the safest option for pregnant women (and anyone else) and would've eliminated all the risks of h*roin or other street drugs. But of course, they don't actually look out for their guests' best interest at all. I mean hell, you can get a virtual online appointment and have a new Suboxone script within a couple days now.
@@beanybabyrabie well it depends on the tolerance, I’d start out on the lowest dose possible, and make sure whoever is taking it is showing signs of withdrawal before they take it. Otherwise they’ll go through even worse hell. Once they find a suitable dose just let them take it for 6 month’s minimum. It varies, I took mine for about 2 years, and just weaned off slowly. Most important part about suboxone is it breaks the cycle of waking up in a state of craving, planning how you’re going to get money, finding the product and then getting high, starting it all over the next day. That cycle in itself becomes addictive, and the longer the user can stay out of that cycle the higher the chance of success. And they need to make new friends, doesn’t matter what they think, nobody can hang around their old friends (unless they’re clean too) still doing the same shit for very long without falling back in. Most people I’ve known getting clean for the first time swear they can handle being around it and can still hangout with their old buddies and I’ve never ever seen that work out. People that say that always go back to getting high, and most people do make this mistake their first time getting clean. I certainly did, I had 6 months under my belt, told myself I can hangout with my old buddies, after a week of hanging out with them I got sucked back in and was back in the cycle for another year. Hope this helps!
Watching Shelly Duval was heartbreaking. I almost had to stop. I never saw her outside of movies. How he can trot her out, hear her in that state, filming it, and keep yammering about "I want to help you" is so exploitative. I wonder if anyone on set really felt like it should stop.

If he ever cared about getting her help he wouldn't have aired this under any circumstances. It was disgusting to watch him treat a possibly troubled person like that for views, what a disgrace.
I think the biggest problem with Dr Phil's show is that people who watch it don't actually want the person being highlighted to get better, they just want to see a worse life than theirs so they can laugh about it and feel superior.
I think the other part is they want people to be punished, especially the teen patients. they want someone to knock the kids down a peg, there's no actual interest in getting them to be productive, well adjusted adults, they just want to see them punished and humiliated instead.
The whole having to stay in the stone circle in silence for days without sleep is literally considered psychological torture. The CIA used the same method against prisoners in Afghanistan. Other forms of psychological torture include but are not limited to: Isolation: Including solitary confinement. Debilitation: Food, water and sleep deprivation; forced silence, and extreme temperatures. These kids were isolated from other people for days at a time (solitary confinement), weren't allowed to speak to anyone for any reason for days (forced silence), their food and water restricted (debilitation), were made to stay awake for days on end (sleep deprivation), and were forced to be in an open teepee in the middle of the desert, which gets to below freezing temperatures at night (extreme temperatures). These children were psychologically tortured and physically abused, and frankly it's fucking disgusting that no one has truly been held accountable for the irreparable damage that has been done to these poor kids.
That is definitely what he is doing (Not sarcasm btw). Its even more messed up when you dig about what he says about some of his guests. There is a comment talking about a friend who fell through tough times and phil did more harm than good.

@@dj_kitsu5850 You're talking about products' copyrights, a whole other level. What we are talking about is possible defamation (from Dr. Phil's point of view)
My first disillusionment with him was an episode years ago of a mother with a very troubled young son (around 8 - 10 yrs old) who was out of control-throwing tantrums, destroying the house, even physically abusing her(he was strong and chunky). She was begging for help and willing to accept responsibility for everything and not deflecting or giving any excuses. She was obviously desperate and willing to try anything (and in hindsight she was probably traumatized by what she was dealing with). Dr. Phil just kept giving her platitudes and catch phrases like “You have to be the parent!” and she was genuinely asking how. It was clear she was asking for examples, like what to say, how to react, or this is what you said/did wrong and this is how you should have done it differently. He gave her nothing but kept repeating she needed to be the parent with absolutely no guidance or advice on how to do it. He seemed to be implying that she knows how but won’t. It was his one size fits all approach that didn’t apply in this situation at all. My heart was breaking for this woman. I was probably yelling at Dr. Phil through the tv. I realized then it wasn’t that he wasn’t understanding what she needed, but that all he had were catch phrases and didn’t know himself what to do. After that I noticed how often he didn’t teach people skills to deal with issues but just spouted snappy catchphrases (Be the parent) in a way that was probably supposed to sound like tough love but just came across as smug and mean. This was before he started offering people professional help from other (which those professionals I also found questionable). However i did like to watch the crazy mother in law episodes but just for pure entertainment.
The way they exploited Shelly Duvall is pathetic. She deserved better than that. That footage of her should never have even aired. The fact that they proceeded anyway tells me that they didn't care a thing about her.
In general I can't stand the way Dr Phil treats his guests, especially those with substance abuse disorders, but I do give him props for helping people with the Nigerian romance scammers.
I watched some more local documentaries made by journalists that went down to Nigeria to investigate, as well as explaining the psychological aspects of what makes people fall victim to scammers in general and in that area he could use some improvement, particularly since he’s presenting himself as a former therapist turned tv host. It’s very fascinating to hear currently active psychologists talking about it. Because of the increase of them they’re even made a historical look back and even then they had experts give their input into the complex nature of this but from a more scientific perspective rather than practicing psychologists, these were people that study the subject. Raising awareness can hopefully help people avoid them, and the dual approach of the more personal story approach as well as the one that I watched first, the more typical documentary styled one, gives an increased reach. Both gives a good insight into how easy it is to judge the people that fall for scams, as well as why we shouldn’t be so quick to judge them since they explained it very well. A forty something minute show is a bit too short for that though, it’s too complicated for that little time
Idk how ppl expect brat camps to work. There's a deeper issue w/the child and instead of addressing it and giving them safe spaces, they are being abused and punished. It's not therapy, it's cruel. It's a power kick for these adults
People need to start asking themselves "If sending kids there is considered a punishment, what kind of person would wanna work there, let alone run the place?"
It CAN be helpful - if it's supposed to instill structur and cut the child of from toxic enviroment. It would have to be a controlled therapy, not boot-camp though.
You know what. The current producers of the Dr Phil show USED TO work for the Jerry Springer Show. Jerry Springer was trash, but he didn’t masquerade as mental health advocacy.
Dr. Phil has also shown some egregious double standards. He'll hound men who've cheated on their wives, but I remember one episode where a man was still bitter about his wife's affair, and Phil's response was literally, "She cheated, get over it" and he mostly took her side the whole episode.
I was in a residential treatment program for a year in Utah and they used isolationist techniques like this 1:20:51 to punish kids who ran away or had any bad behavior (as mild as not running in the mile run we had to do every Sunday). I also experienced severe sexual discrimination. The boys had a better campus, opportunities, more time outside, larger food portions, sports and activities, etc. I wasn’t allowed to show any skin because the “boys can’t control themselves.”There are still facilities open like this. My friend just passed away a couple days before Christmas because of neglect of care from the medical staff. Right now the school is prohibited from accepting any new students and I’m sure is facing a major lawsuit. I got a lot out of the experience but there were things that are completely unforgivable. It’s no wonder that schools like this are allowed to operate in places like Utah where the laws are so lax. My friend wasn’t the only one who fell victim to the neglect of schools like these. I remember having to kiss up to the medical staff so I could get proper care and treatment, and if any serious medical claims were mentioned they brushed you off as a lying mental patient, just like all the others. In addition wilderness programs like turnabout ranch are actually way long than just 3-5 days. I’ve had friends that were out in the wild forest of North Carolina during winter for months without any supplies. If students tried to run away there was a possibility of death due to the elements. These places are fucked my friend was a victim of this system and I hope they get their shit together.
Slight correction: The 3-5 days was the time in the „welcoming tent“ in the stone circle. I‘m so sorry you had to go through this. I‘m glad you survived.
My dad actually has a friend who was on Dr. Phil! It was many years ago. He did not provide any help that actually... well, helped, and supported some of the abusive/toxic behavior that the friend's mom was doing to her. Even despite that, my mom used to watch his show religiously. It always left a bad taste in my mouth and felt like exploitation. He also seems to enjoy saying whatever his older audience wants to hear, like "this generation is SO entitled!" Sometimes, the younger people he's talking about are entitled, but sometimes these kids just want to be treated like human beings, and Dr. Phil will just straight-up ignore harmful behavior that the parents are doing to their kids in the name of "good old family values" or whatever the fuck he thinks he's talking about. I'm glad to see people talking about the harm in what he does. (And I always enjoy long videos like this!)
Not to mention him always plugging his and his sons book like that was the answer to everything. Nothing was genuine from him. I mean he was a shark of a lawyer which they made a show called bull that was supposedly about him. You can tell he is arrogant and doesn’t give a shit about any of the guests
The ranch Phil sent kids to was so abusive multiple kids died there. One was a 14 year old boy who’s family didn’t find out for 4 years. One kid had a breakdown and tried to steal a car which resulted in the death of one of the adults and the injury of another that eventually killed them 2 years later. (I’ve not watched the whole video so if this was already mentioned sorry.)
Man the heroin addicted pregnant thing fucked me up something weird was going on. I went to a methadone clinic for ten years and have seen at least ten women give birth to healthy baby's while on methadone. A clinic will fast track you to treatment if you are pregnant. Dr Phil had to have known this, if he really would have wanted to help he would have gotten her treatment with them asap
I remember one episode, this girl was obviously having a psychotic break & was stalking a stranger who wanted nothing to do with her. She thought the stranger was sending her secret messages & stuff. Dr Phil berated her for like 15 minutes straight and told her to grow up. Painful to watch
Those "wildlife therapy" places are fucked. Kids are often literally kidnapped, taken out into the wilderness with little to no supplies, forced to hike miles and miles in very dangerous terrain and conditions, Abused in almost every way, beaten, starved, isolated as you mentioned, neglected, etc etc. Kids have DIED. These things are STILL LEGAL and ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
Same, I hadn’t been to a mental hospital when I watched that and tried to just brush off it being as bad as I knew it was, but after going through only a fraction of the hell that so many have gone through in this video
I wish I could remember the episode..but one that disturbed me was two sisters with a real rocky relationship with their parents. Phil gave the girls no room to speak for themselves. Those girls walked away from the stage holding hands refusing to further engage as he basically kept poking fun at them as they left.
Brave ones, damn... They shouldn't have to be brave, though. They shouldn't have to be FORCED to be brave in such a way - where the fully-grown adults WHOSE JOB was to PROTECT them, and care for them, were the ones against whom they HAD TO DEFEND themselves. This is just heartbreaking. I can't even imagine how awful this experience had to be for those poor girls - and not only them, but also others that were disrespected / gaslit / manipulated and have fallen victim of somebody whom, essentially, I believe to possess some kind of narcissistic traits... Ehhh). I hope they're doing fine and are free, at last, from such a toxic environment. And that goes not only for them but for all of the victims of Dr. Phil's (and other individuals' responsible for this sickening horrror) actions. Sickening and saddening.
I really, _really_ hope the Danielle Bregoli is the one that finally brings Dr Phil down, like the Erin Brockovich of daytime talkshows. I would watch the _f*ck_ out of that eventual movie adaptation of her story. I hope its called How 'Bout That
I was almost on Dr phill because I was a “troubled teen” got a producer call did interviews were talking about travel plans Didn’t want to go the only reason I didn’t have to was because my mom didn’t sign travel consent and spoke against it I have terrible anxiety I couldn’t imagine what actually being there would’ve done to me

Screw him.
Was it the one were the guy was pushed from a certain height but it was claimed he fell, blond woman?
So sad. I'm so sorry for your loss. Condolences to your family.
Holy shit
What the fuck? It's so shitty of Dr Phil to try to turn your tragedy into ratings AND side with the killer. That's so awful. I'm truly sorry for your loss and that your family had to go through that.
Jfc. I can only offer my condolences, and also fuck dr phil for real
Do you remember which episode it was?
@Concept Unfortunately I don't. I know it first aired around the mid-late 2010's, probably around 2017
@@concept5631 to me every Dr. Phil show I saw felt that way, so it doesn't really matter to me
@@clydeedgin4439 Understandable. Thanks for the response.
My dad wrote a 30 page paper in undergrad discussing the unethical implications of Dr. Phil and his show. Glad you're discussing this!
That's pretty awesome 😎

Stunning and brave!
NICE!!
highkey would like him to publish it!!!
Ya but thats not the context on what he meant
@@mrharvardyayayay3581 doesn't matter. It's the most horrible thing a child can hear from their parent. It's disgusting
yeah and Dr Phil claimed he didn't even know what happens after they get sent, which makes it 100% worse
And sleep as that one girl said. I feel like that adds to it.
NERD!
@@Donny_Double_Dip Yes
@@scarred_wulf246 THIS ^ in his pocket ready to go
@@scarred_wulf246 OMG, I didn't even think about that!
Yes!!! Bezodiazapines are so dangerous mixed with alcohol!!
This comment is perfect. Hits the nail on the head.
I don't think he has an approachable or comforting presence... But that may be just me
Sexy vegan will never have a comeback in my opinion. He was talking about having sex with a dog. There's no coming back from that. Forever gross and inappropriate.
@@elvingearmasterirma7241 That’s fair, I think it’s mostly a subjective thing.

And he used the audience to dogpile the victim. So effed up
I just watched that and want to make a vid about it, because he blamed *him* for making her angry!! Like, switch the roles and say that Philip!!

@@Moist_Slurm Bro what
I think my biggest problem with Phil was his “the parent is always right” mindset. Or just pandering to the older audience. Teenagers are going to act out but sticking to a “these kids are so entitled mindset 😮💨” that completely took the blame off of parents always seemed so unprofessional
He’s very southern and traditional when it comes to family. Which I agree is completely gross. He really does take that raise your kids like livestock thing to a whole new level
especially after 9x out of 10 the parents either did a shit job of raising them or act so much like children themselves that they didnt raise them at all and act completely flabbergasted as to why their kid acts out, yelling and screaming, hitting etc when the parents behave the same way (like a giant toddler), the kids copy the parents exact behavior and the parents act like thats impossible and unheard of
Exactly. He caters to boomers, hence why he spouts such toxic rhetoric as "parents only need to provide shelter and food to a child, nothing else".
There was one clip in this video when Phil was saying to the parents something like, "You put a roof over their head. You feed them. That's all you're required to do for them."
Holy Shit! And these parents are seeking HIS advice??? Damn, I really do feel bad for those kids!
@@WobblesandBean YES!!!! I read yours after I'd already posted my comment...but YES! I wanted to scream when I heard him say that.
my friend’s older sister was on the show - the producers lied about the narrative for her episode, blindsided her, and put her face-to-face with her abuser on air after promising he wouldn’t be part of the show at all. it’s completely irresponsible to do that to victims of abuse. i haven’t trusted him or his opinions/advice since.
The producers lied to her or on the show? Who was getting the incorrect narrative?
fuck. That's not irresponsible...it's shallow, even as low as evil.
@@plutonium2sxi😅 used
@@plutonium2 can’t say for sure, as I have no idea who OP or their friend are. But if it’s the episode I think it may be. The producers promised the guest her abusive parent wouldn’t be part of the show. Right up until she went on stage. Only for it to be absolute lies, then when she reacted badly, dr Phil demonised her for her behaviour.
Like Oprah done to Monique!
That moment when Phil calls this girl "manipulative" is appalling because she was dead right about them using her and her situation as a spectical
Crazy how he was being incredibly manipulative himself
I hate how he told her"no one tells me who to put on my show" when all she said was she very strongly asked for her not to be on the show. He could have said he thought it would help or something bit no he just shut her down and demean her in front of millions.
This guy and his entire family are in on the grift!!!!
every single guest that questioned the very nature of the show has had Dr phill come down on him like a ton of bricks, the creator of bum fights (the guy who dressed up as phill when he came on the show) said a similar thing before dr phill kicked him off. but he was certainly no angel.
Spectacle
People overlook the Producer Factor. Ducter Phil has that "Voice in the Ear" that so many Gab Shows have.
Looking at his history he was a crap therapist and only practiced for a short time before moving onto selling courses and then trial science.
In other words.. you're jealous of his success?

I also remember that episode (don't know which it was) and the way that man was treated was horrifying, humiliating, and unethical.
Seeing Todd on the set so drunk, hearing how they placed vodka in his dressing room on purpose after he’s sober, and how drunk he was actually broke my heart.
I highly doubt he was honest. He clearly has abuse issues past and present and simply trying to deflect his accountability.

@@qpwoeiruty850 how about you dont accuse people of lying just because you are prejudiced against people suffering from substance abuse
@@crowwithashortcake well he's actually in his total-right to doubt someone suffering from substance-abuse.
just because they're victimes of something on their own, dosn't mean they can't LIE or have flawed-perceptions about their situations.
in fact, that's one of the things that caracterize them the most, a desperate need to get their fill even if it's at the cost serious things.
lying to your spouse to go to the bar, lying about needing money to use it to feed your addiction, lying to authorities to hide your lack of sobriety,
there is also a awful lot of lying and deceiving yourself that play a major-role into substance-abuse, it's called "being in denial".
ask someone who's starting to get a substance-abuse,
and i believe most of the time they'll tell you they either can stop whenever they want, or it dosn't affect them.
substance-abuse might be one of the condition that affect the most peoples and how how much trust you can put into them.
if something VERY OBVIOUSLY under the influence, and if they looked like they had DECADES of substance-abuse (like a "crackhead") asked you for money,
you would obviously immediately doubt their motives and you might even get scared of not giving them what they ask.
actually, what is very wrong on both a moral-point and just as a opinion on the matter,
is to argue that you shouldn't doubt them at all, it's both extremely irresponsable and dangerous.
just because someone suffer from something, dosn't mean that they're meant to be blindly believed.
it's very unfortunate, but again substance-abuse weight HEAVILY on peoples-minds.
i think his outlook is a more healthier than yours.
i don't agree with him, but showing doubt is definitely something rational, plus he didn't seem to express any contemps.
he made an observation, and then expressed his doubts and his reasoning in a matter of fact way.

He tells people to cut off contact with their abusers, then when he put a girl on his show with her abusive mother, he acted like she was being self-righteous by *FOLLOWING HIS ADVICE!*

Wow 4 invisible comments? And zero visible ones? That's a record.
You mean Daniella.
I came here after running into her testimonial. His show's cancellation is partly due to her success.
But she got more fame cos of it that's what she wanted lol girl was a dik
So many times you can tell a guest is not straight and it’s so wrong they are taped.
Going through withdrawal while pregnant is super dangerous and requires medical supervision. Goodness...he should know better.
Not to mention when he said "I don't care about what you want, I care about your baby!"

I think more & more people are switching him off. It'd be interesting to see the ratings from the 2000s to last couple years.
That and the fact he’s even allowed to market himself as a trustworthy psychologist on air.
@@misstoujoursplus For some people, the free treatments offered by these shows is the only way some of them can afford it. Jack Saint did a really good video about the Jeremy Kyle show that goes into it further.
you nailed it !!!!!!!!!!
I saw that clip it was beyond fucked up
Unfortunately, that's one place where his lack of valid psychiatric licenses doesn't change anything: in the US, anybody endorsed by the APA is obligated to treat all cases of partner abuse between straight couples as being the man's sole fault. It's called the Duluth Model, and it was literally written to boost private prison revenues.
the way that he treats ANY male victim, no matter what they're a victim of, is absolutely appalling.
It was his fault he was being abused??? Bruh...
Sounds like most boss/employee relationships.
@@pennyforyourthots basically tbh. Also landlord/renter relationships tbh
He'll never think otherwise. He definitely has some narcissistic traits from what I've seen
That's actually very insightful. I didn't think of it that way but it's so true. The whole "You need to go to X clinic, Y treatment and Z professional" and shaming his guest's response (without any solid rebuttal) is disheartening.
this comment is making me envision a union that solely exists for dr phil show guests
dr phil’s “apology” after danielle bregoli talked about her and other kids’ experiences in that abusive ranch made my blood boil. how are any of these companies still allowed to exist??
Say the word "company" again, but slowly
Capitalism. They’re companies first. Money is their language
Money sadly it's basically the mental health version of kids for cash in the courts.

Wise choice, to be honest.
What was wrong with the Cosby Show especially lumped in with those??
My parents didn’t allow for talking head shows either. They couldn’t always exactly put their finger on why, but usually it came to whether they got a sense that there was some kind of bullying in the dynamic. Parading people’s suffering or casting them in a bad light. At this point in my life, I’m pretty grateful for that. I didn’t miss anything but cognitive dissonance and idolatry.

Music is made by the space between the notes. Time apart for both enables them to reflect, miss each other and have experiences that can be talked about when they reunite.

🙏
Im really happy for you and your friend :) it’s great to hear that you both are recovering. Wish you the best!!
Happy for the both of you 🥰
That's where I started to really question his tactics and ethics!
When he was clearly enabling the same behavior he was chastising the guest, just for content and SHOWING addicts buying drugs, using, shooting up on camera!!! 🫢
I don't think the audience should or needs to see most of the wildly inappropriate stuff they filmed!!!
Forcing someone to fix themselves will only make them want to break themselves more just to spite you. It’s human nature.
@tealppup5180 all fair points; it depends on the person but ya you need to communicate carefully with people.

@@fightvale57 Some guy doing exactly what Phil does but worse still calls him out on exploitation.

Some times the mental help someone already has is.... shit. But even then, it would be worth at least trying and building trust so you don't accidentally drive someone further from getting help.
my favourite "dr" phil moment was when the creator of bum fighter came on dressed as him, and pointed out how they essentially did the same thing
"If you think I exploit people, every time you bring a guest on this show you exploit them and spread whatever problems they have to the whole world"
It’s how quickly dr Phil realises he’s been made and calls quits on the interview that gets me. Absolutely hilarious
yeah, that moment was fucking incredible.
the funniest thing is how fast dr.phil told him to gtfo, he barely let him say a single-sentence,
but even tho' he didn't even get to say more than a single-sentence,
just his look was enough to convey the entire fucking arguement he was about to make.
I was hoping someone would comment this, that was incredible
Really it is the same. The differences are superficial. Bum fights have a street as stage and food as the motivating prize. Well Phil has a studio set and medical resources as the motivating prize. But both take advantage of those at a bottom point in life for the sole reason of making personal wealth.
@@ChickadeeBoi bum fights are entertaining and in the end they get food
Wasn’t he was forced to give up his licensing when he began the show?
@@dinosaur___7209 No, he simply let it expire and didn’t re-apply.

And he refuses to believe that he's past his time.
He's a Trump apologist. Trump's a FASCIST. Enough said.
When was this?
How is your family doing? This does sound bad🥲

13 is so so so so young when you look back as an adult. Your brain has so much developing to do
Pretty sure by 14 or 15 she was twerking in kodak black music videos, that shit should've been illegal
THIS. Those kids don't need more "discipline", they need individual and family therapy.

I agree, back before I learned to control my anger it was extremely difficult for me to say what I felt and it just made my anger worse.

When he accused HER of melodrama when she legit just summed up his show, just in the negative light that it deserved. That made my blood boil.
Every single day these teens endure multiple violations to their human rights and no one is doing anything about it because “teenagers are people in training who must earn their humanity” and “surely they must have done something to deserve it since all parents love their children”
And this is partially because the US is the ONLY ‘first world’ country to not ratify the rights of the child. Absolutely fucking disgusting. These people don’t deserve grace, they are monsterous abusers and need to be kept away from society, not put in isolated locations with powerless teens and children who have mental health conditions.
Shady financial incentives are normal,,, they're just not ethical and should not be as common as they are. :(
Oh for real.
I don’t see how anyone could watch that and not come away with a bad taste in their mouth

i cant imagine being gaslighted that blatantly in front of a full studio audience
My therapist would never accuse me, or push me into doing/talking about something that I don't want to, because that wouldn't help me on my road to improvement, that would probably ultimately make me close up even more, and refuse help, because of the negative experience.
seriously. that IS a spectacle, first of all. and she was trying so hard to cooperate.
hearing how the staff (most likely) gave that dude a xanax literally made my jaw drop. mixing alcohol and benzos is literally life threatening. both depress the central nervous system, and slows things like breathing down. it's incredibly dangerous
The former friend doesn’t even remember taking my phone and breaking it, and taking my wallet from
My purse and spending a lot.
Alcohol with xanax or its precursor valium is deadly. It's the worst shape I've seen people in who have mixed the two.

(Seriously, who does that/admits to it!?)
Most food was contaminated. (Nearly had to visit the hospital after 3 days of not being able to use the restroom.)
The people on the show are a tool for the audience entertainment, and unfortunately also products to sell dumb ideas onto vulnerable adults.
This all ^
You're reaching. That's your parents fault, not Dr. Phil's. Choose a better career then "professional victim."
@@renepassa1969 I think their point was Dr. Phil advocates for/recommends a bad camp, not "woe is me."
Selling dumb ideas on the show, cut to commercial for the selling of all types of poison by Pfizer and GSK etc.
Don't blame her for anything he has done. It is all his responsibility for abusing the platform he was given.
@@jiyojiy6202 I personally don't hold Oprah responsible at all. It's all on him for screwing this up.

As a senior psych student in undergrad, I find it hilarious that Dr. Todd Grande is in this video denouncing Dr. Phil when he has been criticized with some of the same points as Dr. Phil. Amazingly thorough video as always!!
Thanks for saying this. Dr Grande's ego is grande-sized and he doesn't seem capable of a lot of nuance.
Not sure what you being a senior psych undergrad has to do with Dr Grande, but ok 👍🏻
Yes todd is terrible
@@_letstartariot My first couple of years, Dr. Grande’s videos were used as part of the teaching material in some classes I had. Then, he started doing more pop psychology and instead, we used him as examples of what not to do.
@@dougalmaguire2357 what do you dislike about Dr Grande? (genuine question).
@@beanybabyrabie Imagine thinking that someone being driven to suicide after being assaulted in an institution intended to help them is funny.
Your friend was weak. She obviously wasn't fit to be a wolf so she had to die as a sheep.

The camp he was entangled with for years was a terrible place for problematic kids. Those kids were tortured there and sexually assaulted.
I hope he never sleeps at night because of the evil those kids endured.
Dude probably sleeps like a baby. He's too self-righteous to see or acknowledge that he's done anything wrong. Nothing can be his fault.
Could, almost definitely. Wanted to, likely not; 'better' show
They absolutely could have, by legal means.
How did you get sober from Sub if you don’t mind me asking? Advice for detox?
It broke my heart hearing her reminisce about how beautiful she was 😢 she deserves so much better, she’s been through a lot.
@@fantasea114 what exactly is going on with her? She clearly isn't right
@@chipskylark5500 I believe she was suffering from psychosis, possible schizophrenia. She also was very good friends with Robin Williams and had a very hard time with his passing.
@@fantasea114 yeah the psychosis is clear it's so sad that they did that to her phil knew damn well she was not aware enough to consent to being on national tv
‘Dr.’ Phil’s sole goal is profiting off of the trauma of others while tacking more trauma on top of what they already have.
How else is he going to profit from a follow up episode on the same people he traumatised??
Reminds me of a few psychiatrists I had over the years. Really scary how many people are in powerful positions with vulnerable people and abuse it.
of course - it's trash TV :(
That is definitely what he is doing (Not sarcasm btw). Its even more messed up when you dig about what he says about some of his guests. There is a comment talking about a friend who fell through tough times and phil did more harm than good.
He's not even a doctor anymore, he renounced his license so he didn't have to follow the public media guidelines and to lie without facing consequences

I don’t know why I found your comment funny but I did
Those old white ladies were hilarious 😂 “Yuusuf really loves me”😭😭
I watched some more local documentaries made by journalists that went down to Nigeria to investigate, as well as explaining the psychological aspects of what makes people fall victim to scammers in general and in that area he could use some improvement, particularly since he’s presenting himself as a former therapist turned tv host.

Dr. Phil has also shown some egregious double standards. He'll hound men who've cheated on their wives, but I remember one episode where a man was still bitter about his wife's affair, and Phil's response was literally, "She cheated, get over it" and he mostly took her side the whole episode.
Hes like an old time carnival barker trying to rile up the women in the audience
He also victim blamed a man in a dv situation
These places are fucked
my friend was a victim of this system and I hope they get their shit together.
It's like he compairs thing kids/teens do to what he had/did when he was that age, blissfully ignoring the that the times change
Him telling that girl that she’s manipulative just because she believes the audience would ridicule her is disgusting. So much of this is disgusting.
I remember one episode, this girl was obviously having a psychotic break & was stalking a stranger who wanted nothing to do with her. She thought the stranger was sending her secret messages & stuff. Dr Phil berated her for like 15 minutes straight and told her to grow up. Painful to watch
That young girl attempted suicide after watching it at home
Those "wildlife therapy" places are fucked.
Kids are often literally kidnapped, taken out into the wilderness with little to no supplies, forced to hike miles and miles in very dangerous terrain and conditions,
Abused in almost every way, beaten, starved, isolated as you mentioned, neglected, etc etc.
Kids have DIED.
These things are STILL LEGAL and ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
I remember when people like PewDiePie were chanting “send her to the ranch” as a joke
Makes me sick now knowing what the ranch actually was
Same, I hadn’t been to a mental hospital when I watched that and tried to just brush off it being as bad as I knew it was, but after going through only a fraction of the hell that so many have gone through in this video
I'm wondering how much is staged
I really, _really_ hope the Danielle Bregoli is the one that finally brings Dr Phil down, like the Erin Brockovich of daytime talkshows. I would watch the _f*ck_ out of that eventual movie adaptation of her story. I hope its called How 'Bout That
