People always miss the message in this scene. Balsam uses the language of violence ("cutting and slashing"), with his summation, "It was murder." Watch again and listen for Juror 1's language as Fonda simply watches him.

Edward Binns says something similar in the bathroom, talking about the heat - "What a murderous day!"
That Juror was cunning. Trying really subtle to change the other guy's decision.
