Clarity: to reiterate what was said in the review. At this stage, the game is like an early Minecraft or Terraria in terms of content but the core gameplay is there. Unlike those games, the Monkey Mimick system will take a lot of time to fully utilise and when you've mastered you'll have your monkey army filling an island! Remember you can get them to follow you and take them to your "home" Island. Good luck!
Bugs: A couple of things I wanted to mention. I've had no crashes, I did have a bad bug where I couldn't rotate certain things you can build but thought it was me being silly as the chairs can be rotated. Turns out it's a bug! Last bug I had was a minor visual one. One of my little images on items got "stuck" as something it wasn't!

Sorry but i disagree with this review. I've played the full release and i highly recommend no one buy it. Also i unlocked everything in less than 5 hours and there's barely anything to do after a very short time.
It's not a problem to disagree - I mentioned in the review that you'll unlock the basic recipes quite quickly, but there are secrets and the templs runs to do and playing with a friend is very fun. I also mentioned the similarities to an early build of Terraria or Minecraft. The core is here for a great game it will need expansion over time.
Awwww this one looks adorable! Bet it would be fun to see exactly how massive you can make your base camp and if course growing a literal monkey army is always enticing!!! 💕

That’s awesome! I was excited to see what you guys think of this one. The whole Monkey aspect seems really fun.
This looks and feels like don't starve together, but more brighter and friendlier like stardew valley. Except the monkeys, they are great.
Exactly what I was thinking
Burnt out on survival games just from some other marathons with friends, but this does have a nice look to it. I'm loving the monkey system though, reminds me of the zombies from graveyard keeper but has the learning and teaching style like the ghost system from Forza games, kind of cool to have to teach then what you want to do.
I’ve been waiting for The Survivalists for a while now, and it’s finally out today... that will be the game I treat myself to this week. Cheers!

Started playing the demo of this last night and I like it but I think as you say a slow burner, a lot of learning to be done, especially control wise for me at least lol! I'm going to try and complete the demo and I'll possibly get the physical edition of it. Great entertaining review as always!

Thanks again I had no idea about this one. Oddly the monkey system has me really interested it reminds me of using pigs in Don't Starve but better. The graphics and gameplay look great I'll have to get it.

Maybe I'm being a bit slow but what is xenophobic?
@@Mrdeniro100 having or showing a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries. I just meant I enjoyed hearing them saying things in their British accents (I am from the UK) as most of the people I watch doing games reviews are American. I have nothing against Americans or the wide range of American accents (or other languages and accents from around the world for that matter) but them speaking in their very British way made me think of the game review tv shows I watched when I was young (very late 80’s to early 90’s) called Gamesmaster. I didn’t want to come across wrong like a Xenophobe or something saying something about their accents as I know some people can take things the wrong way sometimes. I puts me off leaving posts or comments on things quite often as it seems someone gets offended by anything that is said nowadays. It was my rubbish attempt to cover myself from bad reply’s I guess :-)

My wife and I just preordered this ! Def can’t wait to give it a try! We were kinda bummed when we realized the switch didn’t have “Don’t Starve Together”, so we’ve been looking forward to a coop survival game.
Make sure you have Two switches as this title cannot be local co op played on just one, It requires two switches to play local co-op. There is no split screen.

I played the demo of this one, it was a regular game until I learnt I can train the monkeys! There was the gang collecting stuff and killing enemies around me, building my fortress. What a blast!

I've been looking for a cute survival game to play with my SO, this could be perfect especially at a discount, I do wonder how bad the controls are, seeing this is an early review with bugs most likely fixed by now.
Delay on controls can range from well implemented "challenging survival" to egregious unplayable slog, while it doesn't have to be dark souls rolls levels of speed I am a bit worried especially because I love playing melee over range. Would you say it was bearable aside for running?
I'm also worried about network, the switch is not the best on any wireless 😅
I think I'll give it a try, at least every other elements seems perfect.

Iv just been shopping on ebay for the first time. I wrote a list of games that I'd seen on here to buy as iv just started playing the switch and I managed to grab this game for 8quid on there. It's amazing if you use the ending soonest tab. I haven't spent over 25 quid on 19 games!!!

I just bought this after the demo sadly if you don't pre order to get the dlc its 2 to 3 dollars extra but I did pre order because I played the demo and really enjoyed it so I can't wait to enjoy it
I went to the comments to hopefully hear some opinions on the game. There wasn't a single comment more recent than 4 months ago, which was before the game came out on switch I think lol.

I've tried the demo but I kinda don't like the controls especially with the monkeys. Feels kind of clunky. But I'm really interested with this game. Might try again that demo and if I like it will buy this and add to my backlog. 🤣
I tried the demo also and felt the controls to be quite clunky and not optimized well for the Nintendo switch
The demo was great & im excited to give this a go with my sister since we always play survival games like this together & we also loved the escapists games too!! I’m a collector so I have to wait a bit for the physical copy tho 😭😭

Seriously tops Stardew imo, I love both games but this one a lot more! It's not overly impossibly hard (I really don't like games that do that and I can't progress lol) and it has tons to do. The monkey team is such a great concept too. Everything about it actually I love. One of the best games I have ever played, if not the best 💜

Looks fun but just 10-12 hours to beat has me worried do you know if there is any post game? Or how would you score the replay value to something like terraria?

I'm kinda torn on this, it looks good but I absolutely hated the escapists. I do love games like Don't starve though and this seems to be a less intense take on that. $30 bucks Canadian is a hard sell though, I will wait for a sale to maybe pick this up.
If this was a IGN review you'd probably heard " I keep dying because I didn't bother upgrading this item"

I do see the Stardew resemblance but has no one at SwitchUp played The Escapists 2? The visual style of The Survivalists is basically a more polished version of the visuals in that game. (Very fun game, by the way; I recommend it to anyone reading that hasn't yet tried it.)

When talking about the frame rate, it looks choppy... Is this just the UA-cam video or is it perhaps a frame pacing issue? - most famous in Bloodborne where frames are delivered with the wrong timing though the framerate is solid.
