Lihapiirakka is often "fancied up" with a sausage and a slice of cheese in it, which is then warmed up and served with mustard etc. Lihapiirakka without anything in it can be a bit dry experience.
But karjalanpiirakka is THE thing in Finland. It's the perfect snack with or without egg butter.
Have the karjalanpiirakka warm. In the hotel breakfast buffet, there are usually toasters you can warm it up in.
And definitely try the Tupla Crispy Puffs in the sweets(candy) aisle in the supermarket. Tupla bars are great, but these are astonishing!
double layer nugat is the peak, the puffs are great, wish they would make nougat tupla puffs but no.... just boring mint they came up.. mint and chocolate is a criminal mix, everyone who likes it secrety sings the swedish anthem before bedtime.
The salmon is not smoked it's graavi, which is cured using a mix of salt, sugar and dill.
That could have been cold smoked though
@@5MaTu5 Looks like cold smoked to me due the color
1:35 That wasn't too bad.
3:06 As long as you don't use either of those 😅 I'll pass on explaining the correct way in writing, but you can hear it in the UA-cam clip "Fazer Story" on their official channel, if you're curious.
5:05 "Malviala" is the name of the brand, "tippaleipä" (funnel cake, lit. 'drop bread') of the snack.
Leipäjuusto (breadcheese) should be bit melting and warm served with cloudberry jam.
It'll blow your mind.
Lihapiirakka isn't usually eaten on its own. Leipäjuusto isn't usually eaten on its own. Karjalanpiirakka (translating it as pie is quite misleading) isn't usually eaten on its own.
You can eat all of those on their own but they're probably quite bland.
Lihapiirakka with kebab is incredible. Too bad there's not a lot of vendors who do that.
The snacks look awesome! I would love to try them. I enjoyed this video. 😊❤
Tyrkisk Peber is originally Danish but now owned (and produced in Finland) by Fazer which is a Finnish company.
Kiitos!
5:05 "Malviala" is the name of the bakery that made those. Not the name of the product. I have no idea what would be the name for that in English. In Finnish it's "tippaleipä". Basicly a "vappu"/ 1st of may treat only.
funnel cake in english
My hometown❤ You're a true finn cultures wizard.
Those open shrimp sandwiches are originally from Sweden, called "räksmörgås" or "räkmacka".
Tack!
Leijona tar sweets, a must to try. I can eat a box crazy fast.
1:36 good enough pronunciation to understand you. We appreciate anyone who is interested to learn the language
karelian pie with eggbutter is the best food
Welcome to Turku!
In Turku Market Hall you should have salmon soup (cream version) from S. Wallin slot. It's THE thing to eat while in Market Hall.
I'm not an Åboriginal, but I lived in Turku for several years during college and I have a soft spot for the city, especially in the summertime
Come to Rauma while you're in Turku ^^ 100km north, city with a charming wood-built old town
Same
You should try voisilmäpulla or piispanmunkki 😊
Salty Liquorice is the best
I've never seen anyone buy or know one who's bought one of those "open-faced sandwiches", they seem more like tourist-traps and just made to "upscale" the joint up a bit ie "Look we have these neat shrimp-salmon toasts now you gotta pay 1-2€ more for everything else!"
And those are actually danish sandwiches. Finnish ones are the ones with meetwurst and cheese between bun or ryebread 😄
@@Aurinkohelmi meetwurst, ham, cheese, a few leaves of salad, cucumber and a touch of butter all between a bread of rye is just lovely, also moderately healthy as far as a sandwich goes if you go for the rye one which you should.
I don't understand why Americans don't like salty licorice or licorice with ammonium chloride (salmiakki)
If it's a taste you grew up with you're more likely to like it. The Aussies into Vegemite might like those. To me as an American I can't imagine licorice not being sweet red or black, and fewer Americans like the latter.
I am one of some Americans who do like salty licorice. Love it. But, I agree, many Americans don't like licorice at all. I figure, more for me!😊❤
Peanut butter is disgusting to everyone who doesn't grow up eating it
I eat almost anything but I hate licorice it's not even healthy so why bother.
@@silotx But salty or samiakki licorice taste sooooo good
3:54 You put butter in the wrong side of näkkileipä, just my opinion 😁.... It's a common topic of debate in Finland
Not feizer Or faazer, but fatzer. (pronounce the a as the u in duck)
we dont like sweets or candy that much there just happens to be variety of options... tho ofcourse some cinnamon roll or blueberry pie with coffee but candy not so much obviosly kids buy them
2:38 Kari bongattu
My favorite breakfast is a cigarette and coffee. 10/10
That is probably not a slice of blueberry pie but a piece of bilberry pie. Mustikka in Finnish/blåbär in Swedish/blåbær in Danish and Norwegian is often erroneously translated to blueberry.
u speak great finnish! im proud of u that u are learning the hardest language of the world
Snacks for kids. Maybe.
so not Turku. XDDDD but ty
Kauppa halli is shit, try to eat in small local restaurants...
