Easy DYI Repairing & Fixing Door Actuator on Audi Q5
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- This is an in-depth tutorial on how to fix the actuator on an Audi Q5 passenger door. This tutorial covers removing the door panel and the old actuator to installing the new actuator and reassembling the door. Failing actuators are not uncommon and not unheard of on Audi cars. They usually have a life expectancy of 10 years. Replacing the actuator is affording and an easy DIY. Save yourself some time and replace it yourself in less than 1-2 hrs.
I found my replacement part here on:

Does it make your locking sound not work either? Because when I locked my doors, the locking sound does not work.
you did not show how to get it past the window regulator guide? I am finding it impossible to get it past it to get it out of the cavity?
Important note: don’t use power tools when unscrewing the T40 fastener that holds the actuator in place. I shredded those and started a whole new problem that didn’t exist.
Good video. Saved me some time, as I don't work on alot of German cars. Thanks for the instructions 🤘
I believe the door actuators mounting bolts use a triple square pattern.. not a star (T-40). I suppose you wouldn't need to do this frequently, but if you continue using a T-40 bit, you'll round the bolt.
Thanks for the info! For everyone else that have the proper triple square bit, use that over the star t-40. But it wasn't too difficult using the star bit for this diy project. I only had a standard mechanic set to complete this project and was looking to keep cost of repair to a minimum.
That beam is not crash protection, it’s the window regulator. Easier to loosen the 10mm nuts a move out the way 👍🏼
😯 might be right. it was a pain to work around but not impossible.
Nice video but you don't show how to replace the new dock lock.
Hey bestie, thought I might point out if your locking chirp is important to you be sure you replace it with an OEM part, I tried multiple Chinese eBay actuators before giving up- none of them have the right electronics. Easier to just got with an OEM part and not too much more expensive!
Hi, could you share where you sourced the oem unit from? I have gone through 2 units from ebay so far and neither seem to communicate the status of the door lock so the alarm won't chirp and the door lock indicators won't light up on all doors because of the front passenger Actuator not communicating its status.
Thanks
@@ysarpong I just bought a oem part on eBay that looked to be fairly good condition, I’m sure it’ll go out again some day since it’s fairly common but it works for me for now.. otherwise you can buy at an Audi or porche dealership, I’ve heard it’s cheaper at porche.
@@annissa5375 Thank you Annissa. I ended up doing the same and everything is back to working order. Thanks so much!
How many times are you planning to bang your keys on the door panel?
Everyone's a critic 😑
I’m having problems with my 2010
Probably the most informative video on how to replace these damn things
Glad it help!
Thanks for taking the time to post such a helpful video. Saved us about $800.00.
My 2024 won’t close 😢 properly
Thank you- excellent walkthrough for my 2014! (Though I despise the little plastic tabs they use for mounting...)
One of the mounting bolts on mine was really tough to remove- I nearly stripped it before I made the trip to the store for a triple-square set. As others have mentioned here, use a triple square or be really careful.
What causes the button on the door handle not locking the vehicle anymore?
I have a problem with unlocking from outside on Q5. Is it always an issue with accurate and you need to replace it ? Or is there any other possible issue ?
Listen very careful to your doors to hear if actuator is moving when you unlock or lock the doors. You don't hear anything you either have a dead motor or you're not getting power to it.
Thanks for the video. Can you say what the part number is that you purchased from FCPEuro? I am a little confused because in some places I see what looks like two separate components - the door lock actuator and the door lock actuator motor. I'm just trying to figure out what to order if I want the entire assembly that you replaced.
The exact one I used for my Audi is the VAG-8J1837016B. The actuator should come with a motor. It's the failing device inside of the actuator that dies over time. Unless the part you're seeing is the actual motor itself, which you can attempt to replace. There are actually refurbished actuators on ebay where some mechanics replaced the motor. So know what you're buying.
@@Inspiron41 Thanks for the reply. I think their descriptions are just confusing the issue. The description for your part says Motor and from your explanation, I can see that it is the entire assembly. I'm redoing a different door so the part number I have is 8J1837015B, just one digit different than yours. I will go ahead and order. Thanks again.. I had a 2013 Prius for 7 years. The dealer replaced both front door actuators under warranty. They would have billed me $600 each. A year or two later I wound up replacing all four door actuators myself. Saved a lot of money. Thanks again for your help.
Thanks again for your help. I found amz.run/4lvn which worked and cost considerably less at $60. After I got into this I realized that the driver's door (which I was doing) was much more difficult because the actuator housing needs to connect to the mechanical piece from the door handle key lock option. photos.app.goo.gl/W6ZkTLhJ5iABFG7b8
Thank you for the video. I’m going to give it a try 🤞🏻
Success! Thank again. Getting the old one out and back in around that bar was fun. Wish I would have timed it. Took about an hour.
Not bad took my longer because of the filming. I'm super happy diy the issue
Thanks but the title is misleading, you didn't actually fix the actuator, you replaced it
