One of the greatest boxing heavyweight champion of all time he was big fast a termination to win my hero Joe Lewis was the greatest heavyweight of all time always to be my champion I love you brown bomber. 👑👑👑👑👑👑🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Truth Hitman I was exaggerating, as the statement itself is ludicrous. I believe he would have gotten to Ali. People don't realize Louis moved only as fast as he needed to. By making Ali take 2 steps to his 1 he would have gotten to him in the late rounds IMO. Tyson at his best just might have been the best with his power, speed, and upper body movement he was vey hard to hit. His career is another matter. I think George would have been nothing more than a punching bag for Louis, even though George wasn't the slow lumbering fighter many make him out to be, Louis was just devastating when a fighter came into him, and George would have done just that. Louis doesn't get the credit he deserves for facing hard experienced fighters and being the great boxer puncher that he was. A good analogy is James Toney a middleweight who ended up fighting and winning in the heavyweight division just on the experience he acquired over the years. That's what Louis's opponents had that Louis doesn't get credit for, except by the professionals. Have a good day.
Fireworm u talking rubbish Joe wouldnt have caught up to ali, it doesn't matter about Joe taking one step to ali's one , ali in his prime was up on his toes all damn night and plus punches didn't take their toll on ali, frazier beat him down and he still got up and fought on, Joe Louis even with the poor competition he faced would fall when the punches took their toll, don't use not being at your best as an excuse because ali never fell against holmes also if billy conn can outbox and walk to a landslide points advantage up on louis it's easy reasoning ali would have been able to do the same because with ali he's not getting knocked out so its foregone it's a 60/40 in favour of a situation where Joe doesn't fall it goes to the judges because if frazier couldn't knock him out with his left hook on the button in 1971 I don't see Joe having any weaponary stronger in his arsenal than Joe fraziers left hook on top of that ali was a bigger build, taller, longer reach, heavier it would have been too difficult ...Joe Louis is a marvellous champion and it brings tears to my eyes whenever u see louis schmeling 2 ... It was gods work afoot, but ali and Foreman would have beaten him, foreman is the hardest puncher of all time he could dominate the heavyweight division 21 years past his prime and regain the championship why he was a fat jelly rolled baldy? Because he hit so unrealistically hard to fight foreman you need to be quick on your toes pumping a good jab , Joe would have came forward and tried to put that leather on him and that would have been his downfall
As much as I like Joe Louis, I don't think it was fair that Max Schmeling was looked upon as the representation of Nazi Germany, he was just a boxer, nothing more.
Today, they usually rank Ali above Louis, but I disagree. If Ali didn’t have a ring with loose ropes and Louis forces him into a corner, it’s over, KO. Ali had the greatest hand and foot speed of all time in heavyweights, but no big knockout combination like The Bomber, who planted his feet and threw bombs.
@@homiedclown1885 You beat me to it. The Tyson that stepped in the ring from 86-88 would have mauled Louis and might have beaten Ali. Louis' one weakness was his chin as he went down a lot, even in fights that he won. Tysons power might have been enough
There were people who never forgave Marciano for beating Joe Louis. My father was among them. My father --rest his soul -- believed the Marciano Louis fight was fixed.
Louis technical skill was so great that he could often work his way in against a taller guy through other methods like blocking, parrying, bobbing and weaving, and once he got inside he prefer to through hooks and the right straight because they have more power and can knock the guy out better than a jab. Further louis had a reach of about 76, there was no benefit to trying to jab a taller guy with a longer arm when he could use footwork and duck the jab and ko the guy with a left hook
And Lewis reach was an 85, so that gives you an idea on the kind of leverage liston who was 6'0 could get on his punches. His jab came at a funny angle where it looked like it was at its full reach but then it would extend about another 6 inches, and it knocked out alot of guys. Louis used the jab to set up left hooks, and when he fought taller guys he would tire them out by picking off all their shots until there hands got tired, he would also beat their bodies on the inside.
A real champion of all Americans. When asked to serve his country he did so with no reservation unlike some nameless draft dodgers.Ladies and gentlemen this is a man of honor ,courage and loyalty unlike so many who came after him and are celebrated as heros. One of the last generation that had real men and women. God rest his beautiful soul.
Louis would then go and hook a boxer in the head repeatedly with left and right hooks and his hands were fast and powerful until the guy fell over. Louis was to a large extent a great technical boxer who made opponents miss or make techical mistakes,if he fought a large man, he'd let him throw the jab and counter with the left hook or a straight right. The jab is not normally a knockout punch in boxing, it is normally used to create openings or distract an opponent from other punches
Joe Louis is the best boxer for one reason above all others --- 1. He could beat you any way that was possible. Joe Louis took people the distance multiple times and won decisions. Joe Louis had several first round KO's Joe Louis had several middle round KO's Joe Louis had a few late round KO's (13th round and later). Joe Louis could out point you, out slug you, out hand-speed you, and KO your as.s. There are very few heavyweight champs that have done all that. Muhammad Ali mostly wore people out. Ali did not really have a Knockout punch, and mostly had KO's with the right hand. Joe Louis Ko'ed people with either hand, and with very fast combinations that alternated head and body shots in rapid succession. I challenge anyone to watch the Joe Louis Vs. Walcott Knockout from their second fight, or the second Schmeling Fight. Joe was a very intelligent fighter that lost to those two guys the first time , then adjusted his strategy and came back to win the second time. The closest thing to Joe Louis that we ever saw after him was the 1985-1988 Mike Tyson. Now imagine if Tyson had his head on straight and had maintained his skill for 15 years like Louis did?
Louis was known for throwing very hard hooks to the head, could knock you out with either hook, left or right, or with a straight right. Those were his main ko punches, but he is considered to be the best technical boxer in all of boxing and the textbook on boxing, so although he can knock you out with pretty much any punch, it just depends on what was best in the particular situation. Ie. if he fought a smaller guy he could knock them out when they were bobbing with an uppercut, tall =right
'There's no such thing as a master race...now shine my shoes, boy, and get back to your hood'' LOL when the guy said that said the US wanted to end a message that 'there's no such thing as a master race' 16:20
Yes the Ali vs Louis match up is every boxing's analyst wet dream. It really depends, if Lewis can use his technical skills to corner Ali and hit him with more than a glancing blow, or would Ali hit a prime Louis with one of those backwards straight rights like he did to sonny liston. I am inclined to say Ali because I have to believe some of Ali's punches in those 20 punch combinations will get through Joe's Defence, but u never know
Nothing slow about Joe Louis. He looks slow casue he didnt move a lot but when he wanted to he could move pretty good. Go watch his fight with Max Baer!
Greatest of all time & best hands ever. There were plenty of whites who didn't like or appreciate Louis because of his race, but there were also many, many whites who did at the time & later. I wish this film had more footage & boxing talk & less sociological talk.
tubewatcher38 he was a pioneer of the civil rights movement. You realize he was the first black heavyweight in 30 years after Jack Johnson. Jesus christ blame your country for race being bought up all the time not the people who wrote the documentary
mmm, joe was not dancing around the ring but his hands were fast moving and known to be quiet explosive when he was trying to knock you out. It is really a tactic, you go in see a slow moving guy, and then he explodes on you with a fist to the chin. Louis could pick Liston's jab and Louis could block Liston's jab while throwing his own jab, watch the subtle skill of joe louis, he routinely beat taller longer armed, stronger guys.
Joe Louis was the first black champion to open the doors for other black boxers [unlike jack johnson, Archie Moore himself said that Johnson left a terrible burden of black boxers after him]. Joe Louis also opened the doors for blacks in golf & he was part of the cause that gave blacks better treatment in the military. Joe Louis & MLK changed America & gave people rights, Ali, Jack Johnson & Malcom X didn't give blacks any rights, they just talked non-sense; /watch?v=_HBnc8YNaaQ
The greatest heavyweight of all time from my point of view for more ways than one but with all due respect they are being dismissive of Joe Walcott by saying joe louis should've beaten him no problem. Walcott was an all time great as well with much better footwork than Louis and a much slicker defense. I honestly don't think any version of Louis beats him without trouble. A slick defense and great boxing is why he had so much trouble with Billy Conn and Walcott was just as good of a boxer as Conn but with better footwork and he was a good 20lbs heavier and stronger than conn.
Joe Louis had 1 of the fastest combinations in boxing history, he wasn't slow, he was patient. Research Zora Folley, his style was like Louis [patient], he didn't waste punches, he also out-boxed a prime Ali for the first few rounds [until he gassed out because he was old]. Not wasting punches & being slow are too very different things. A
@@sherk4717 Do you feel proud of yourself for that correction? Some of us use talk to text and the phone picks up different words. When people do that it makes you look arrogant anything but smart or genius. It's quite sad but I'm sure you feel very highly now of yourself.
You make a good point. To be completely honest, I sided with Liston with reluctance. I'm a pragmatic guy, I look at the evidence at hand and judge to the best of my ability, while leaving favoritism at the door. Don't get me wrong, Joe is in the top 2 of all-time heavyweight boxers. I just have difficulty seeing him KO Liston. and when I said 'slow' I meant foot speed, not hand speed.
We've got a ways to go. Racism is still surviving underground, but it hasn't long, of what I'm fairly confident. But truly great men like Louis are not tripped up by such petty prejudices. Joe was the real deal, a heavyweight who was also a great P4P talent, like a Dempsey or a Muhammad Ali.
Joe Louis one of The Best Strong hitting boxers other strong hitting boxers include #1. Tyson Furry #2. Mike Tyson Iron Mike Tyson #3. George Foreman #4. Joe Fraizer Smokin Joe Fraizer #5. Sonny Liston #6. Joe Louis The Brown Bomber #7. Rocky Marciano 49-0 #8. Jack Dempsey #9. Dantae Wilder and last but not least and very last #10. Evander HollyField
It's not about who you or i wan to be, it's about who did the right thing. Louis, Ali, Malcom X and jack johnson all couldn't eat in white only restaurants [and yes Johnson wasn't served when he went to these places]. The difference is that Johnson had stereotypes of the time, he flaunted his wealth which is no sin but isn't quaint, whites disliked him. Archie Moore said Johnson screwed it up for ALL blacks after Willard knocked him out. Louis made a difference which WE ALL enjoy today.
lol ya lets not forget he knocked Primo Carnera around pretty good and he wasnt the smallest man in the world. I put Joe Louis in the top 3 HW of all time for sure.
I watched the carnera fight and I have his book. He actually doesn't have that kind of powerful jab. His stance lends it self to be able to hit a guy with powerful hooks. Liston was shorter, weighed more and was clearly more muscular than probably any boxer until Foreman or Tyson. Liston had a 15 inch fist, largest fist in pro boxing history, he had an 84' reach and likely suffered from stunted growth, he had to have a special boxing glove made for his large hands. Lennox Lewis was 6'5 1/2
George Foreman used to spar with Sonny Liston and he said he was the only one to back him up you said so you could hit supposedly he's the hardest hitter that ever lived rest in peace Sonny Liston
Ahhh so it was Joe Luis who started the whole "Get into Pro Wrestling" after retring from Boxing. Many of the greats did this haha. Ali, Mike Tyson, Floyd.
Louis so popular. He enlisted? What a team player. Incredible. A modest, caring @ apparently trying to help people. He became, philanthropy specialist, donating cash. He was financially raped.,,,the war took it out of him. Not the same.
From what I have seen, I think Liston could take about everything Joe could throw at him. Joe was also a slow moving guy, and I just don't see him getting inside Liston's range long enough to do the damage he wants. Even if he did, I think Liston wouldn't be fazed that much(Just watch his fights with Cleavland Williams). Liston would probably keep him at bay with his jab, and back up when Joe tried to advance on him. If Joe douse get inside Liston will smash him with his hooks.
I didn't say that ''they didn't hate Johnson'', they obviously did. As for Louis; the IRS screwed him but whites gave him a job after his retirement, Louis never had to pay a drink, and white man even payed for his funeral, he was loved. Louis opened the door for blacks in boxing & left it open, johnson did not. In Louis-Schmeling 2, whites cheered for Louis & booed at Schmeling in the entrance. Do you think black people cheer for klitchko when he destroys black fighters?
Begging in Reno for quarter's Is no job Dip shit They fucked the great Joe I mean destroyed his pride. Joe was also a vet Not dodging or running from shit. Treated beyond After he could not fight
Many fighters have always had fast foot speed but Robinson was the first to be great white using his fast feet. Ali & later SRL styles themselves out of SRR. They thought that to be great you had to be like them. Fast feet is good for avoiding sluggers power. Many sluggers, like Foreman, tend to have power but not to great boxing know-how. They also miss allot. None of todays greatest boxers have fast feet. It's not very efficient, you can only get away with it with great athleticism.
With all due respect to you and Joe, I am think Liston would be to much for him. Liston has the intimidation going for him, a long reach, a strong jab, and solid technical skill. Many people think he was just a slow-moving, dumb brute that always went forward. Liston was actually pretty smart in the ring. He could back off when he needed to, and STILL hit you with his jab. He could go the full 15 rounds, take a lot of abuse, and still keep up a good defense.
Whites loved Louis, they rooted for him in all of the fights where he was an underdog, people like underdogs regardless of race. Ali & Johnson flaunted their wealth and mocked their opponents, people don't like that from fighters or people. Whites cheered for Frazier who was blacker than Ali. Race doesn't matter, Cooper was whipping prime Ali ass if it wasn't for his easily cut face, in the first fight Alis corner cheated, it should have been counted as a ko.
Ain't nothing changed. All one has to do is look at the criminal justice system. It's as gross and pathetic as any justice system in the world, period.

The best heavyweight champion ever and a true gentleman.r.i.p champ
Mike Tyson was just as good a fighter as Joe Lois and maybe even better. If Mike was not as moral as Joe, Mike lived in a different time.
He was the greatest of all time
One of the greatest boxing heavyweight champion of all time he was big fast a termination to win my hero Joe Lewis was the greatest heavyweight of all time always to be my champion I love you brown bomber. 👑👑👑👑👑👑🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Best heavyweight hands down.
shut up Ali Tyson and Foreman would kill him
DeVante Grace Louis would have beaten all three on the same night.
Louis was basically a stronger and faster Ali. Watch his fight with Schmeling the 2nd time. He was to fast!!
The “Actual” Greatest
As much as I like Joe Louis, I don't think it was fair that Max Schmeling was looked upon as the representation of Nazi Germany, he was just a boxer, nothing more.
Yes and Max was not a Nazi supporter at all,in fact,he was not even a Nazis, just another German people whose reputation is tarnish by the Nazis
Propaganda by u.s media.
Max and Joe where the best of friends
@@robertdouglas7101 That's what I was going to say. 90% of Max's image was media created and he actually liked Joe
You guys do know that it's all about selling the fight. Not getting facts correct.
I will pick Tyson over Louis and Ali. Tyson with Kevin Rooney was a different beast.
@@homiedclown1885 You beat me to it. The Tyson that stepped in the ring from 86-88 would have mauled Louis and might have beaten Ali. Louis' one weakness was his chin as he went down a lot, even in fights that he won. Tysons power might have been enough
@Homie D Clown how mike Tyson fared against Evander holyfield & Lennox Lewis, etc etc ?? Mike tyson ask for smelling sauce & stretcher in the ring
@@ReflectionOfPerfectionflash knockdowns. Louis had. Solid chin
Muhammad Ali should not be carrying Joe louise coffin because he used to insult Joe Louis called him uncle Tom, announced it in his speech
Thanks so much for putting this up. I am actually compiling as many Joe Louis documentaires as i can
Go head!
There were people who never forgave Marciano for beating Joe Louis. My father was among them. My father --rest his soul -- believed the Marciano Louis fight was fixed.
I LOVE YOU JOE!! YOU'RE THE GREATEST EVER!! MY FUCKN CHAMPION!!
Amazing video 📼.
great memorial day example of a boxer and an african american
Louis used the jab to set up left hooks, and when he fought taller guys he would tire them out by picking off all their shots until there hands got tired, he would also beat their bodies on the inside.
i cryed when he was in the casket in the boxing ring
the best heavyweight ever
He does refer to him as "my father" throughout, but when speaking from others perspectives he uses "Joe Louis".
Louis would have killed the Klitschko's with a jab, let's not even think about what would have happened if Joe got a hook or right cross off.
Joe louis would ko Klitschko completely knock him out
Joe Louis wouldn´t even fight in the heaviweight division these days
absolutely and Fury and Wilder....
From the little video footage I've seen of the Klitschko's, I opine that they are TERRIBLE heavyweight champions; very skill-less.
Joe was ah boxer 🥊 & ah playa 😂 💯
The actual greatest
A real champion of all Americans. When asked to serve his country he did so with no reservation unlike some nameless draft dodgers.Ladies and gentlemen this is a man of honor ,courage and loyalty unlike so many who came after him and are celebrated as heros. One of the last generation that had real men and women. God rest his beautiful soul.
most picture perfect puncher of all time.
Joe Louis is the best boxer for one reason above all others ---
1. He could beat you any way that was possible.
Joe Louis took people the distance multiple times and won decisions.
Joe Louis had several first round KO's
Joe Louis had several middle round KO's
Joe Louis had a few late round KO's (13th round and later).
I swear the only person who hits as technically solid and fast as Louis is Tyson. Joe is the GOAT point blank period
Ie. if he fought a smaller guy he could knock them out when they were bobbing with an uppercut, tall =right
Lol the Cap and exaggeration of how old dude explained Max was screaming Oh Lord lol
I meant to say Joe Louis instead of Frazier.
I am inclined to say Ali because I have to believe some of Ali's punches in those 20 punch combinations will get through Joe's Defence, but u never know
That’s my blood line lol
I remember my grandfather talking about how NO ONE was allowed to even breathe when the great Brown Bomber was fighting.
mmm, joe was not dancing around the ring but his hands were fast moving and known to be quiet explosive when he was trying to knock you out.
He is the greatest HW of all time. The Joe Louis that fought Max Schmelling in the rematch beats any HW in any era.
THANK YOU FOR THE TRUE STATEMENT.
A
The best ever, he fought for so much more then money & glory. Mayweather is pure trash next to this guy.

I agree. Well said.
I agree The Brown Bomber Joe Louis is Amazing Excellent Very Great And a very good boxer
@@sherk4717 Do you feel proud of yourself for that correction? Some of us use talk to text and the phone picks up different words. When people do that it makes you look arrogant anything but smart or genius. It's quite sad but I'm sure you feel very highly now of yourself.
Such a shame how he was treated. And it was ironic that it was a German who helped him especially in financial matters.
The IRS under democrats ruins all
You make a good point.
Jack Johnson's, in your face attitude? A Black man that lived free, would be a more appropriate statement.
Lol tyson fury
My mum always told me of joe
Hardest puncher in Boxing History
lol ya lets not forget he knocked Primo Carnera around pretty good and he wasnt the smallest man in the world. I put Joe Louis in the top 3 HW of all time for sure.
🐐
The real Captain America
JOE YOUR MY HERO /
No, I used Cleavland as an example of Sonny's durability.
Sad 😭 joe Lewis helping many other people out and then owed the IRS money 😞 terrible that Mr Lewis helped others out to end in debt 😢😮
Dont know who wouldve won between Ali and Louis! It wouldve been a classic fight!
Begging in Reno for quarter's
Is no job
Dip shit
They fucked the great Joe
I mean destroyed his pride.
Joe was also a vet
Not dodging or running from shit.
Treated beyond
After he could not fight
The greatest HW
They did have a very bad relationship though that is made clear in this and other documentaries.
you compare cleveland with louis ? seriously ?
What about a taller guy with a Liston-like jab?
Shut up lol
@@servantofyahhopeful-elect8744 my opinion has changed over the last 8 years.
Ali wasn't in his prime in 1963
