- Rockshox or Fox?.... hmmmm…. how 'bout MRP!? Mountain Racing Products.
*oh geeze… let the online debate begin, full of anonymity.... haha!
*Check out why I choose MRP over every other suspension product.

Great edit dude! Really like the view into MRP. I’d love to get my hands on one for my new build. Totally enjoy supporting the smaller companies.
B1KER - thanks Robert!
It's been awesome to see the success of this "small" local company!
Looks like I will need to get the cartridge when I get my new hard tail. I like the ability to fine tune something without having to fully disassemble it to make a small change/adjustment.
Seriously... If I didn't run their forks, that would be the first thing I would do to a fox or rockshox
You really do have an original channel.
And we certainly need a couple more brands in the suspension area.
Thanks J. C. ! I appreciate that! and yeah.. i agree... although fox and rockshox ARE great... i like having an option - especially one local here in CO.
cheers!
*From a business standpoint, your video is PRICELESS! Companies cannot buy promotion like this, your unabashed honestly and enthusiasm is what every advertising agency tries to replicate when they shoot commercials. I sure hope they see this video and read my comment because you deserve a sponsorship or something more than just an attaboy. Seriously, I have never ridden an MRP shock but, I can assure you the next fork I purchase will ship from 580 N Westgate Dr, Grand Junction, CO 81505! You are super nice and would never say this yourself but, I will..... Hey MRP, Sheyn needs a sponsorship!* ✊
Pedals and Plants - 😂 thanks!
As an "MRP Ambassador" I get a certain *level of "sponsorship" -after deciding that MRP was for me, I asked for it...
And it's a small, but helpful discount 🤷♂️
Anyway... I would rather still pay for my own equipment and be able to give honest opinions, rather than be a "brand slave" 👍
I just purchased a Ribbon air 29/27,5... awesome 👍
Dude you deserve more views and subscribers. Your videos are epic!
oh dude, Ghazy! thanks so much for that! i appreciate it
I have a new frame to build up and I wasn't sure what suspension too use, I am now leaning more towards mrp!
Josh Baylin - awesome! 🤘 You should reach out to them with any questions... They are fantastic!
The Crashing Dad great I will! 🤘🚵🏻🚵🏻
The Crashing Dad just posted my first really short snippet video on my channel!
Very cool man! looks like all the other companies out there they skipped the 24" wheel option.
Backyard Shredder - yeah 🤷♂️ unfortunately... 🤦♂️
I get it though not a lot of kids need more fork.
Oh good. Some footage from my one and only ride. We need to get out there again.
I run ramp control on my Fox 36 for the past couple off years and broke one but they replaced it no problem and running it still as I can adjust the ramp up at the end off the stroke without pissing about with tokens Great product. I am thinking off the twin crown Bartlett fork next to run on my YT Capra Pro Race Carbon.
That Bartlett is intriguing 🤘🏼...and YESSSSSS! RAMP CONTROL for the win!
Just demoed the MRP Ribbon last week on a Guerrilla Gravity Smash after trying so many bikes this year.......and I was truly amazed with both! I really enjoyed your video, showing exactly where your money is going and just how good this fork truly is. Can't wait to dial in my bike and get out on the trails! Oh, 25 years this October that I've been in Eagle, CO
Thanks ! Noice! I've been wanting to try Guerrilla Gravity for a long time 🤔
Got the Ribbon 170 on my Nomad 4... Love this Product!
That's awesome! Did you go coil or air with your nomad ?
@@TheCrashingDad Got the air. now playing with preasure and settings on local trail. Can't wait till snow has gone in the swiss mountains and get the cool trails back.
Great video. Can't wait to see your review on the air vs coil ribbon fork. I'm going to put either one on my next bike in a few months.
adchristian - what kind of riding do you do the most ? Do you care about a few ounces in weight ?
Not worried about the extra weight. Just wondering which is the better option and if coil is worth the weight increase. Coil interests me due to less maintenance and not having to check air pressures and also not changing due to elevation changes and heat. Not that many good reviews on the coil ribbon so far. Cheers for the reply ;)
adchristian - for my gnarly trails, I LOVE the coil! I love not having to check my air pressures (positive and negative) all the time... And it's consistently buttery smooth... But with ramp control, it ramps up for the ending stroke -
I think the air feels GREAT too... But it's my "tinkering" fork. I always have to (like to) adjust my pressures and play with the negative air pressure...
If I were building a trail bike where I cared about weight, I would go with air... An "Enduro" style bike (like my Altitude) I would choose coil 🤷♂️
Oh geeze... But the air would be so good too... 🤯 Don't make me choose! 😂
That's the information I'm after. I'm not too worried about tinkering with the fork once I've got it dialled. More interested in consistency and performance. Thanks for the reply ;)
Cool video. I work in manufacturing so it’s always cool to see how other manufacturing operations do business.
Kris J - thanks!
What kind of manufacturing do you work in?
The Crashing Dad, I work for a company that makes industrial pumps and compressors. Most of our units go to oil and gas refineries.
Kris J - nice! 🤘
There are so many jobs out there that no one thinks about 🤷♂️
Cool video, I'm in Australia so the whole local thing doesnt apply to me, but I'm loving my Ribbon coil (Nomad 4), it can feel a bit stictiony when just standing over the bike pushing down, but on the trail it is everything you could ever want a fork to be, super supportive, rides high in the travel, plush, you can adjust the bottom out and the small bump is amazing. MRP FTW.
benny360 🤘🤘🤘 😂 completely agree!
Have a go using a 20w oil with your next service(and a nice amount of slick honey around the wiper seals). It will transform the fork. I went from 5w to 20w and it is night and day how non stictiony the fork is now. I've done maybe 100km after changing to the 20w oil and they are still perfect no matter how you load them up.
Thanks for the tip Raymond ! 🤘
I tried a MRP fork on my buddies bike and was super impressed. I'm pretty happy though with my rockshox pike with a vorsprung luftkappe installed. Great video man!
MTB FlowRider - thanks Orbie ! 🤘
Was it Coil or Air ?
That Pike and Luftkappe IS a pretty sweet setup 🤷♂️👍
The Crashing Dad I think air. If we ever ride together can't wait to try the coil version.
MTB FlowRider - it'll happen someday 🤘
I wish someone would make a modern fork for us old school people riding 26 in bikes with v-brakes; including some for 1 in steerers. I still love my old Fat Chance Yo Eddy and would love to put a modern 100 mm travel fork on it.
Hmmmm....
I have a friend who contacted MRP and they did a special 26" fork with a straight steerer for him (because they push in all their steerers in house) -
Not v brakes though....but they might have some vintage parts still around the warehouse 🤔
I really really wanna try the hazzard. I think it's badass that they are making progressive coils. I love my x2, but that shock might be something that makes me switch.
James Stoup - ME TOO!... The DPX2 is a great shock... But I'm thinking that the Altitude needs coil front AND rear 🤷♂️😂
"Progressivity" wow that thar's a big word! Very nice work with this video, Sheyn! Looks like a really cool company! At 3:57 that's a bumpy trail!!! 😂😜
Huntstyle - thanks! 😂.... That's "Grand Junction" style testing 😉
Huntstyle - and don't you worry... I'll use "progressivity" and "undulating-terrain" in a future vid 😉😎
Excellent. I used "undulations" in my blog post for tomorrow's video!
The whole small business personal touch thing will only last until the business becomes more successful as it just doesn't scale. In the end it will come down to the quality of the product and the price.
Good of you to point that out 🤷♂️MRP is getting a ton of attention and business growth ... Earning awards with Pinkbike, and working with product managers... I don't think they intend to take over as a huge player, but to be a great option (just like dvo and ohlins)...
I certainly hope we don't lose that. We've been in business for about twenty years, with slow but steady growth. I think the high-end mountain bike component and suspension market is small enough that you absolutely can and should keep things personal.
Great video and thanks for showing us other competitive products!
Happy 4th of July to you and your family!
🇺🇲🚴😀👍☀️🌴
Scott Davidson - thanks! 🤘
Happy 4th to you good sir! 🇺🇸
MRP is awesome! I love selling their stuff along with DVO since they both stay so close to their products.
Nice to have that personal touch 👌
After seeing someone put an MRP coil shock on their HD5, I'm curious to see how that goes. I'm not totally sure about the progressive action, though. I like the linear feel of the DHX2 I demoed. This is mostly for comfort with my RA, though I would still love to try an MRP. That will be a while, if ever, to get a new shock.
I haven't tried the coil shocks... But I'm seriously thinking about taking the fox 36 off and putting a Ribbon Coil up front... So linear and buttery. Changed my world! Lol
Also makes me want to toss the dpx2 and go with a Hazzard coil in the rear....
And I would just go with the standard linear springs...and if that doesn't suit me, THEN I'd spring for the progressive spring (which really is only progressive in the last bit of travel...linear in the first majority....from what I can tell looking at the progressive springs and how they're wound)
Great to see you on that new HD5 🤘🏼
@@TheCrashingDad I didn't know they had different springs you could get. That is cool! Maybe I can research it and put it on my wish list.
Thanks! I love the HD5. I haven't had a chance to really ride it. I broke the rear wheel while putting Cushcore on.😡 Ibis will get me a new wheel, but not sure how long that will take.
I have a multi decade background in computers, networks, administration, certifications and fixing things others can't..gettin it done. Love to schred and looking to move to the area.
It's a great place to live and shred 🤘people are fleeing Denver from high prices.... And it's making the market in GJ boom 🤷♂️
0:04 Fo orks.
Great stuff:-)
I think I will get mrp fork, but not decided if I would go for coil or air. but I ride in hot summer & cold winter, I can definitely feel difference in harshness & softness, but it might be temperature affecting the oil. in the spring I can get a very harsh fork that suddenly gets plush after few climbs and descents and jumps, that's with Fox 32 evo.
I have many few MRp chain guides, but I switched to Absolute Black / 77designz bashguide, better mud clearance. but their forks seem like a good idea, but I haven't tried one yet.
I installed Cush Core on both wheels, with it I was able to drop suspension pressure by 20psi, 4 in the tyres.
I am not sure about tuning option on my fork, which comes with a huge grey volume spacer already, but Cush Core made the setup feel pretty nice, I am sure Mrp Ramp control will feel great, I think I should build a new bike soon, I am still waiting for answer from Trek, I have been really bad lately so could not travel anywhere, it might take a while before Trek does anything, I am on the last hanger, so will probably be with only hardtail soon:-(.
but my next bike will definitely have to have as good fork as MRP.
Johannes Nilsen - the Ramp Control is also a great upgrade option, to get a great taste of MRP... When you get a new bike/fork 🤷♂️ 🤘
Johannes Nilsen - for consistent butteriness... I'm LOVING the Coil 🤘....
But oil will still be a factor, but definitely less difference with changing temperatures, if there is enough advantage I will go for coil, the correct spring is crucial.
I have given up on my Fuel ex. I hope you are loving your new bike.
Have you done your MRP coil review yet? Would love to see it!
Not yet Luke... I've put about 700 miles on it so far... And I think I'm just about ready to give my review/opinion. So it's in the works...👍
Starting to wonder if you took a wrong turn on the ribbon, good to see you back in the saddle
Thim - 😂.... I'm out of retirement 🤷♂️😅
so many go for Fox or Rockshox, but there are plenty of options, MRP is definitely a top contender.
I’d consider an MRP fork and agree they’re on most likely better than RS and Fox. Looking to build a new hardtail. Hopefully they will clear 27.5 x 3” tires
I have a Fox 36 now... And I think I liked the MRP ribbon coil sensitivity even more 🤔🤘🏼👍🏼
The Crashing Dad thanks, I’ve had older Fox 36 and they needed maintenance frequently to keep smooth and get full travel.
*sorry... Not profesh... Still working with a used $100 camera and a 10 year old computer that can barely handle 1080p 😂🤣😂
🤷♂️🤦♂️
You hush your face. Don't tell me about not professional! Lol this was so well done!!
Unprofessional Kyle - my face is hushed 😐
Psh, Unprofessional Kyle is using a VHS camcorder. Step your game down Crashing Dad!
Huntstyle - gotta get that *tracking dialed! 🤘😎
I have to use a new bulb every time I use flash!
Super well done video. I'm on MRP's site now taking a look. The video is working! haha
Cobra Kyle - 😂 haha... That's hilarious!
I think I'm going to go shopping for a steel, teal, retro bike 🤔
That's awesome news! I hope you do get one. If you do and are ever in Texas....we need to duet the Teal Steel song.
Man I was hoping to see you review the “shred lever” guess we’ll have to wait for next time! Lol 😆
Outdoor Gold - TOP SECRET 😐
That sounds like something I need!
LOVE IT. If this video was a steak, I would immediately send it back to the kitchen because it is SO WELL DONE!
😂😂😂
i like how i got in there, laying down on the ground wiped out from a 18 road ride hahhaha, good video as always dude! i guess i should buy ramp control now huh haha
Rado Life - I had to expose to the world that the Rado is NOT invincible! 😂
Thanks Josh. 🤘
What was the long term outcome of the review and comparison????
That's coming soon 👍🏼
Love my MRP Ramp Control!
Me too! 🤘😎🤘 MUCH better than fiddling with tokens 😬🤦♂️
Hey man, I watch all you videos! Still use your dirt jumper? Im in the market for one and don't know where to start. Selling yours? or have any suggestions?
Joel Schoening - I got mine from Craigslist 🤷♂️ but I actually just sold it 😂 my Ragley Bigwig is a better dirt jumper (for my comfort)...
But my next door neighbor bought it, so I'm sure I could borrow it if I wanted 😎
I would definitely go used first... Get better fork/brakes/tires/everything for less money.
Also, ride it first... DJs tend to be really short... I got a medium/large size for the length. Not as flickable/playful as a short/small DJ, but it was more stable and easier to learn with.
Hey man. I decided to take your advice and check craigslist. I build a dirt jumper for $273 from craigslist. Don't know if your interested but I posted a video.
ua-cam.com/video/PKXVpAoM6Y4/v-deo.html
check it out if you can. Keep shredding it! (saving up for an altitude btw!)
MRP rocks, love my ribbon coil fork
2:12 nothing top secret here, just a photo booth.
Johannes Nilsen - 😂 there was *something in there 😉
probably hiding under the white sheet probably.
I wonder if other brands test each fork. My it's nice that Mrp does it.
Fox and rockshox just pull samples....don't Kno about others 🤷♂️
@@TheCrashingDad i had had dust wipers with bad tolerances, they go shot up the stanchions, air leaked, wird noise. Other for came 8th oil and grease all over it with seals on the stanchion, I sent it ba k to bike24 they sent it to rockshox it got fixed, it did not come back in the nice rockshox boxes. Not greatest experience. But the seal, dust wiper issue was fixed. This should not have passed a Dyno test.
@@TheCrashingDad so far i have had nice experience with fox, but I damaged Grip damper on two forks, the steerer and crown were creaking, so half of my fork is 2014 half 2018. But the grip dual sucks, shifts to locked if I ride hard. That would be avoided with proper mechanism with firm clicks.
No doubt MRP is awesome and they are good people BUT... They have a way to go before riders like the guys I roll with will consider them over FOX... When guys are 185 to 205 lb shredders riding tripple black all day there is a huge difference. At your size being a trail rider MRP could be the best for you...
doopy noo - I totally can see that 🤘 I think in that case, I would run a 36 WITH an MRP Ramp Control Cartridge 😉 haha... (I actually know quite a few "heavy" riders that do that 🤷♂️)
doopy noo - BUT, Fox and Rockshox DIDN'T win Suspension Product of the Year 😉😂 TROLLOLOLOLOLOL !
Great video
Owen Preece - thanks Owen! 🤘
What's the upside down downhill mrp fork like?I can't find any reviews etc
The upside down one? Which fork ?
@@TheCrashingDad I believe it's called the Groove
@@onemoreriff7644 - I don't think they make that anymore.... Don't see it in the website
@@TheCrashingDad Yeah shame really it only came out in 2017.You can see why people stick with the same companies when the little firms just stop making products in a short amount of time.
@@onemoreriff7644 I can see that... But also, that fork only had 32mm stanchions...and for a DH oriented fork, that wouldn't cut it... So as a smaller operation, it was easier and quicker for them to be able to cut that and move on 🤷♂️ whereas a bigger company would have tons of inventory 🤷♂️
one long infomercial?
Just me calling out a local MTB company that I think is awesome and does a great job 🤷♂️ I got to take a tour... So I made a video that I liked... Instead of just an hour of footage of me walking through and getting the backstory behind the company, with bad audio while machining is going on...
Sorry if you didn't like it 🤷♂️
Ha! Living loving maid in the beginning!
😂
They still put the crown on backwards.
😂🤷♂️ Hahaha... No mud build up, tho 🤘
People who ride in mud use a fender, its retardation.
🤷♂️ I don't ride "mud" (we get peanut butter cement here)... But I'll hit a puddle every once in a while... And it's nice not to have to clean out an arch 🤷♂️
Rude.
Noah - can't avoid the Pinkbike trolls anywhere 🤦♂️
If I'm in your area i will go MRP all the way
YASSS 🤘🏼😂🤘🏼
Argh! You geeked out again, hahahaha! Wala akong naintindihan!
Nunal Sa Paa - paumanhin! Ako ay isang NERD! 🤓
The best suspension in the world is, hands down Öhlins. 👍 Period.
Some say fox faxtory... Some say dvo... 🤷♂️ They all have great qualities...and it's all pretty subjective 🤘
Good fork , but manitou mattoc/mezzer on dorado air spring is very good, fox 36 best fork all times, rock shox is 💩💩💩all times.
Lol 😂 in 2019-2020 just about anything in the high end range will be great 🤘🏼
Nah....
first haha
😆 Lol nice first josh!
Blah blah advertisement... blah.
Lol 😂 if ONLY they paid me for this... I honestly am just super stoked on them...and they are just right down the street from me 🤷♂️
Their forks have won awards for a reason... Not just "advertisements" 😂
Not to mention their chainguides and bashgaurds...
But it's all good... This is the internet... You can comment whatever you want anywhere 🤷♂️
shill
Walker Page - haha..😂 I WISH I secretly got paid for this.. or a free fork... But that's not the case 🤷♂️ I researched them out after I moved to the area and started MTBing...and was pretty stoked on MRP and what they're doing..
For my Ribbon fork reviews, I actually do have some negative things to include 👍
