White tees, pink tees, orange tees, wooden tees, tried them all!! Played today and changed from white to orange tees and set driver a few inches behind the ball like the video, I have never hit a ball longer and more importantly straighter in my life!! I even filmed myself for first time just to see it in action. Thank you for this video! 👍🏻👍🏻
This has helped me understand so much about tee height, I have recently bought a new driver but was hitting it about two thirds of my old driver. As these new type drivers have a deep face I still teed up as I did with my shallow face driver. Tried this today back to longer drives and very happy instead of the 20ft high rubbish I was hitting. Thanks Danny
Ya, last night some body asked to use lower tee, that led me to find this video. With view series of video from Danny Maude, it finally help me to uplift the ball better. But the seems want to challenge himself to use lower tee.
Danny I have fun watching your “older” clips which are obviously still relevant. Gosh this game! The eternal challenge. Thank you again from South Africa 🇿🇦🤞⛳️
I normally play with 2 drivers . 1 is 8.5 , for against the wind and a 10.5 with the wind . My swing stays the same . I am going to tee up just a little higher though . Thanks . Great information . I am 58 and can still hit over 300 yards . With the wind off course
I’m not one to comment normally, however, after a year of struggling with pink tees (Due to a Pro telling me Pink is best), I took to the course over the weekend with Orange tees and hitting up as you described. Wow, what a difference, easy 20-30 yards longer each time, and due to much lower spin my draw was a lot more predictable. Thank you very much, Danny
I’m now using a a white castle tee, so my ball is half/half on my driver face, Brilliant vid my friend explains a lot I actually realised it was mostly down to too the attack angle on follow through Also ball choice (spin rate) is important for flight imo, which again is down to your swing
Great video thanks. I often sky my driver and I hit my Fairway woods well. So I thought I was just hitting under the ball with the driver. I haven’t thought about the angle of attack, I’ll give your drill a go. Thanks again.
Great video. The best explanation I can find to choose the correct tee and why. Been using the white tee and getting some great distances. With a little tweaking, I may get even more. Thanks Danny.
Great video 👍 I like how you explain things especially for someone like me who has just started playing golf. My tee shots are the worst, so hopefully i can use your info next time I'm on the driving range or the course. Keep these videos coming. You are helping me alot. Thanks
Having watched this last night, umm 2:00 am..lol Tonight at the range, in which we have to hit off mats, and with 18 to 25 mph wind blowing in our face, it caused me to really focus on my set up and shallowing out my driver swing, and all my clubs for that matter. I switched to a higher tee than I would normally use, and when I made a decent swing I made better contact, and gained some yardage..Being that it was so windy and cold for southern California I had to adopt to the conditions. I though for an Old man, I did fairly well. I'll keep working to achieve my goal. Thanks again for the great instruction.
Good info, as usual. I'm struggling to not slice (I've watched your other vids!) and found having the ball a bit further back helps. I'm new to the game, 53 years old and using a 12* M6 driver. Would moving the ball back further and using the loft, almost treating the club as an iron or fairway wood, help? Maybe a lower tee height? I'd be happy with a consistent ~230 yards and straight. I can hit 250+yards but I can't rely on my drive!
Danny I lowered the tee and my slice got dramatically better. I feel like with a high tee for me it was causing too many other variables. I was hitting at my local range about 225 and nasty slice. That with getting the club more around my body in the backswing instead of up and down I turned it straight and was hitting right at the 300 yard marker. Also rotating of my forearms through the downswing. I worked on that with half swings and was hitting driver 250 straight as can be just with half swing. I may start using only a half swing on drives it’s consistent and further than my full swing slice
Great tip thanks, I’m going to try a higher tee next time as I went to the pink tee because I was skying it off of the orange but now I realise why.... 🤞🏼
@@alexandershepherd8793 best thing to do buy some wooden tees etc mark on tee height between pink and orange !!! Easy this what I did and same height now every drive !! 👍👌⛳️😍
I’m a subscriber but just watched this video (3 yrs old) and would like to know your thoughts on tee height vs control. I have found that for me, teeing the ball a little lower that I get much more control. My ball flight is straighter. If I tee it to high my ball flight starts going right. Thanks for the great content.
Danny i discovered something in relation to the height of the tee which you might think is unorthodox,i do this now even on par threes, what i do is exaggerate the height of the tee but in doing so i hover the club off the ground, this if you get my drift makes me sweep the ball not hit it and additionally keeps those forearms against my chest. With the driver i have the tee very high, hover off the ground and as mentioned sweep the club, sounds odd but it works Danny.
Hi Danny my tee hight varies from yellow castle in winter white or pink castle in summer . The orange one tends to go long but low about 6 feet off the floor but runs well , my pro tries to get me to hit off that orange one and is ok on a lesson and on the range but not when you have one shot at it on the course . I also have my mates through watching me hitting it off a white castle if wind is into us . I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT MY BACKSWING IS A FIGURE 8 THIS I DID NOT KNOW BECAUSE WHEN I SET UP MY GRIP IS POINTING TO MY LEFT SIDE OF MY GROIN AND OFF A PINK TEE GOES STRAIGHT WITH ALL CLUBS EVEN WEDGES. PAUL FROM TINGLEY 15 HANDICAP,
Danny, Looks like the fall season is there in the UK! Thanks and enjoyed the video instruction. Look forward to arriving home next week in Phoenix to use your instructional advice and increase my game. Jg
Thanks Danny, I used to tee up with a pink tee, with a 10.5 M6 driver, but my misses were pulls left. I tried the orange tee and lowered the driver loft setting by one notch. I found that the flight is higher and now a fade/cut miss. No more pulls though 👍. Any thoughts on what setting I should use. Thanks Danny, keep up the great work 👌
i tried your 'tennis' swing on the range to get the ball going left off the tee ann it worked but it went so low and far left i lost a hug amount of distance, maybe i should try the higher orange tee (normally use pink) to get more upward strike, thanks. love your videos.
the clues in the name, BACKspin, the more BACKspin the more the ball wants to come back towards you. You need the height hence we would like you to hit up with driver. You cant do this with irons and fairways woods unless they are teed up. In which case we need to hit down to create backspin so they travel up and travel far
64 years old, 20 H/cap. Tried the orange tee, purple tee, pink tee...topping it, skying it, and when connecting properly, slicing it horribly. Solution for me? Switched to a heavier club, 12 degree loft (as opposed to my old 10 degree loft) and then tried 4 inch wooden tee , down to green marker on tee shaft. Result? Straighter , longer drives. My mates had a laugh at the 4 inch tee when I first produced it - not laughing now. I am.
It depends entirely on how good your driver swing is and your club head speed. I am old now so I have lost speed. I find that the white tee gives me the best result. Using pink I hit it too high with no length advantage and also turn my straight/gentle fade into a slice
Thank's Danny great vid as always! Can you consider guide us regarded club fitting? Is is something really important for your game? Should I use a longer shaft then the regular if I'm 1'85 cm, ect.? Graphite or Iron ... what's the difference? Best regards, Göran
A teacher once told me that on the backswing the clubhead should travel up towards the right shoulder. Not the right ear. I'm guessing this thought would stop the swing from getting too steep ?
Alan Young / personal preference- plastic tees always same height - wooden tees could be millimetres difference every time - but hey what do I know haha
Thanks for commenting Alan, Im using plastic purely to illustrate the difference in height. I personally use wooden too. I think when golfers are getting started the pre-set heights are a great way of getting consistency.
Would you think it would be a good idea if I tried track man with these 3 tees ? I’m currently using the white ones. Average distance is around 260 yards and ball isn’t too high but sometimes it goes high ?
Absolutely, also consider booking an online lesson with myself so I can look at your driver swing. If its sometimes too high it could indicate you are coming down on the golf ball a little. Alternatively visit your local pro and as for a trackman lesson
I use the consistent tee which is in between the orange n pink. I was doing good but then sometimes steep swing and popping up. Then I lost confidence. But lately hitting solid n straight just no height. More line drives but square on face n tee stays in ground. Every now n then I hit a good one w nice height but not often. Should I be using orange tee? I have right set up n tilt but still line drives. Ugh
I have been using 2 3/4 tee and 3 1/4 tee both give me really high launch. When I hit it, it sounds awesome, but the distance isn't. Sometimes it even rolls back, instead of rolling forward. Should I try to lower my tee, perhaps try the pink tee?
My first time with your video's. Enjoyed it and subscribe. But would you agree that with a drive you get behind the ball with your body and you stay behind with your body. Not so much hip and weight transfer to the lead foot and leg in the transmission?
Your body does get behind but first there is a tremendous pressure into the lead foot. Its this pressure that you use to explode your body back and catapult the driver through
Hello Danny Hope I can explain this ok. If I use a Pink tee with a 10.5 degree driver but then get better results with a taller orange tee as this is hitting the higher lofted area of the driver face. Would I get the same results staying with a pink tee but increasing driver loft to 12 degrees. G Meulemans I think that’s a great idea and something worth considering, I’m not sure UA-cam would allow the same content on their platform as bizarre as it sounds the left handed video may get flagged as plagiarism but will certainly check it out
everyone on here is talking about higher tees but no one mentions what degree of loft your driver is set at. If you have a high loft setting and then raise the tee and swing up wouldn't you see the sky ball? I would think you have to adjust the loft for a higher Tee and upward swing
mckibb69 first thing to do is get some foot spray and spray the face and find out where you are hitting it on the face...this will help determine angle of attack into the ball. If it’s not a swing thing it could be your driver
Great videos, one question, as a teaching pro, is it easier to teach a student who turns up with single length irons, or variable length? Keep up the good content.
Dumb question, is there a way to actually measure how high off the ground I swing my driver? I know swings are not the same but looking to see can I figure out the proper few height?
Danny, is there an average upward optimum launch angle and ball spin range for max distance on a driver. I notice in the simulator here at work from 2200-2700 for me with a 13 degree launch tends to get me close to 300 yards (I play a 9.5 TM M3).
PLEASE tell me what Tee's those are? I had one, lost it and now I cannot find them anywhere. If you know what kind or tee or what the brand is, please let me know.
Hi Danny, I'm really struggling to hit my driver at the moment, I'm getting back spin on average of 3000rpm backspin, the ball starts off straight then tails off to the right, any thoughts about were I'm going wrong?Cheers
Good comment. I wonder if you could explain if the ball position needs to change in relation to the T height. I assume if you T up higher so you can hit the ball in the upswing the position of swing bottom changes ??? So ball position ??? Would appreciate some feedback ! on that.
Average attack angle of PGA tour is -1 degree. Amateur golfers tend to be more negative (-4 to -6) but it gets closer to -1 as they get closer to scratch. This contradicts what you say about hitting up with the driver. Hitting up with the driver makes it a completely different swing to all other clubs, which makes it a very hard shot to do. I can hit it high on the face with a short tee, and I can use exactly the same swing as all other clubs. It seems to be bad advice to try to hit up with the driver. Please comment.
If you look at many of the pros' face on driver swings, not a lot of them tee it up really high. I just checked and the average tour pro hits DOWN on it 1.3 degrees. It's a myth that a lot of golfers can hit up on the driver. I would argue that like 99% of golfers should not tee it really high.
If you want to hit it further then teeing the ball higher and hitting up on the ball will do this. A tour player who already hits the ball far but needs more control may choose to sacrifice some length by hitting slightly down
@@DanielMaude Thanks for replying. I'm 64 and have a 4 index. My swing speed is about 96, but I have never been able to hit up on the ball. The best I can do is generally -3.5 to -4.0. I'd love to be able to hit up on the ball! :)
Morning Danny I’m a high handicapper and alway hit my driver well from the start and long . Now I can’t use it due to a larger than life slice , at the range I hit it great but I’ve got Loads of chance that you don’t get on a course so I’ve started to straighten up my shoulders and use a higher tee like in the vlog a orange and not the usual pink and it’s helped . Is it because the balls higher above your feet with a higher tee straightening the slice or Is it that my problem was I was falling off the drive because of my back right shoulder ?
Interesting one...Shoulders would make a difference and a higher tee may have encouraged you to hit more up on the driver helping to move the swing path more in-to-square as opposed to out-to-in

Great videos, one question, as a teaching pro, is it easier to teach a student who turns up with single length irons, or variable length?
Keep up the good content.
Thanks for commenting NIck, with regards your question, I don't really mind, all golfers are all shapes and sizes before I put a club in their hand
Great explanation.
Great video, I will try a higher tee next week.
Great, let me know what affect it has on your driving
thx
My pleasure Ian
Teeing it up higher and trying to swing up but still hitting it off the bottom of the driver, any suggestions?
Yes, start hitting down on the ball and see what happens
@@DanielMaude Hit down wit driver? That's unusual. Please explain what you're getting at
Dumb question, is there a way to actually measure how high off the ground I swing my driver? I know swings are not the same but looking to see can I figure out the proper few height?
Not really Daniel, although if you spray the club face with foot powder spray you will see where the ball is striking the club face
Danny, is there an average upward optimum launch angle and ball spin range for max distance on a driver. I notice in the simulator here at work from 2200-2700 for me with a 13 degree launch tends to get me close to 300 yards (I play a 9.5 TM M3).
Those numbers sound pretty good to me
@@DanielMaude I guess I'll try to stay in that ballpark range then. Thanks Danny!
Steve Polverini I would, you’ve got it nailed on
does the tee height mean your ball position is the same or different
paul of tingley
PLEASE tell me what Tee's those are? I had one, lost it and now I cannot find them anywhere. If you know what kind or tee or what the brand is, please let me know.
They are from Sports Direct. Slazenger
They are standard sizes...you can get them from any brand
Hi Danny, I'm really struggling to hit my driver at the moment, I'm getting back spin on average of 3000rpm backspin, the ball starts off straight then tails off to the right, any thoughts about were I'm going wrong?Cheers
D. Smith 3000rpm isn’t too far out but is slightly high due to the slice...check out some of my videos on hitting a draw, or swinging in to out
@@DanielMaude I thought it was far too much and meaning I was hitting the ball on the downswing, thanks I will do .
D. Smith perfect, keep me posted
Thanks for this Danny. I find that whenever I use the higher tee peg, i almost always hook to the left? Any advice?
Good comment. I wonder if you could explain if the ball position needs to change in relation to the T height.
I assume if you T up higher so you can hit the ball in the upswing the position of swing bottom changes ??? So ball position ???
Would appreciate some feedback ! on that.
About to send my head cover down the range
thank you
You're welcome John
Correct tee Height Correct Launch Angle .. hence want to hit it straight on tight holes tee it low let it go. it works
Thats great Sven, find the height that suits you and let it go

... and what about the pink tee?!
Morning Danny
I’m a high handicapper and alway hit my driver well from the start and long .
Now I can’t use it due to a larger than life slice , at the range I hit it great but I’ve got
Loads of chance that you don’t get on a course so I’ve started to straighten up my shoulders
and use a higher tee like in the vlog a orange and not the usual pink and it’s helped .
Is it because the balls higher above your feet with a higher tee straightening the slice or
Is it that my problem was I was falling off the drive because of my back right shoulder ?
Interesting one...Shoulders would make a difference and a higher tee may have encouraged you to hit more up on the driver helping to move the swing path more in-to-square as opposed to out-to-in
Thankiuu !
You are very welcome, hope it helps you boom a few drives
I have tried all tee sizes at the range ,one is to high next is to low what do I do it,s only night I can for my driver ,sos
🐒🙉🙊🙈🤔
Ask the driving range if you can cut the high one down a bit and keep the tee in your bag for each time you come to the range
Take a big lump of blue tac, wedge it in the tee hole and use your normal wooden tee!
Danny, what length of T is that?
Which one Gary?
Very good information only when showing positing of ball on tee was too far away from camera.
Thanks for the feedback Ray 👍
Write on the screen covers up the location of the pin
No use showing this video if you cannot see the pin"s height........
You may need to turn the subtitles off on your computer Adeeb
@@DanielMaude ok
Tee it up and set degrees lower then
Makes no odds if your chopping down on you follow through
farther
Tee it high and let it fly
Love it
Why does he have an old driver? What is that--persimmon?
Where are you looking??
drawrings Look at the head cover It’s a Callaway Epic hardly persimmon 🤦♂️😂
@@davideardley-wilmot2424 2y old driver, might as well be persimmon, numbnuts.
@@drawrings I think you are the numb nuts. Are you the guy who runs out and buys a new driver every year thinking its a cure all?
@@terrythomas790 actually, I usually buy 2, one for each club since they keep and clean my clubs. Not bad, huh? It's less hassle to lug around one's sticks.
But this video doesn't address how to change a "steep angle" swing ???
Maybe you're saying that having an object in front of the ball, forces you to shallow the swing ?
Farther, not further. Words matter.
Thank you, you are right
Not those two words you pompous prat, they're essentially interchangeable. Besides, language changes and evolves over time and in different regions, so lighten up and don't be so pedantic.
@@tomr200199 ha! That’s funny. You get triggered and call me names because you’re ignorant. The words are not interchangeable. They mean different things. It isn’t difficult. Chill a little.
@@Bohdisattva if the only way you can feel ok about yourself is by putting other people down, then at least be correct while you do it, it isn't difficult:
Farther and further have been used more or less interchangeably throughout most of their history, but currently they are showing signs of diverging. As adverbs they continue to be used interchangeably whenever spatial, temporal, or metaphorical distance is involved.
Watch the pro's, other than Bryson & Phil, they all tee it low
They all do it very differently
I'm a golf teaching pro too, and according to your videos, I'm a better golfer than you. I can break 70 regularly. I tee the ball higher than you for the driver. I can hit up on the ball better that way and get more distance. I put the entire ball above the driver head. Try it.
Good for you
FARTHER, not further
Thank you 🙏
FFS plastic tees STOP IT
Funny, yes not ideal but a popular choice
No help
No help?
Sorry man, but, 2,5 feet... Are you for real?! Put the headcover 3-4 inches in front of the ball if you want them to really learn how to swing up on the ball.
Got to start somewhere Morgan 😁
@@DanielMaude Yes, naturally. Should have realized your target group, beginner intermediate. (I most have a bad day) Sorry 👍
Morgan Svensson 👊🏻, have a great weekend, thanks for taking the time to feedback. Always up for learning

Blah blah blah - why would anyone spend time watching a video like this? Experiment yourself and find what works for you.
Love the name Try thinking for a change....quite apt...human beings are different and we learn differently hence golfers like and learn from videos like this. Thanks for commenting
@@DanielMaude Thank you for the video, the only video I have seen that adjusts the tee to the swing, I have a tendency to hit down on the ball.
