Flail Mower or Brush Hog? Why the Flail Mower is Best!

- A look at a Super Heavy Duty Flail Mower and why it is better than a brush hog or standard rotary mower! Mulching up some old weeds and brush to create a food plot for deer hunting. Grow better plots and end up with a better finished product with a flail mower! I use my Farmers Helper D180 Super HD flail mower to quickly and effectively mow a food plot before discing and planting.
Hello Heath, we used have flair mower/ collector to feed the cattle, it was amazing how the pastures improved over using our bush hog, nice setup 👍🏼🇺🇸
Thanks, it is a nice tool for sure. Not perfect but I prefer it over the rotary style.
This is first time I’ve seen the new tractor👍🏻👏🏻. The flail looks like it does a great job!
Good video, Heath. You brought up the 1 major reason I continue to use the rotary brush hog - the ability to back into the area to cut it, and not drive over it first. I do that a lot of the time in our property. If I had mostly open fields I were brush hogging, the flail mower might be an option -but for woods clearing work (and with the number of crab apple trees/jaggers I’d rather back into than scrape against), the brush hog works better in my mind.
Thanks, I do miss being able to back into heavy brush but really like everything else about the flail.
Nice! I like the new tractor and that mower did a great job! Hope ya’ll have a good deer season👊🏻🇺🇸
Thanks Todd, you too!
Wow!! That flail .pwer did a Great job!! Never ran one, but if i had a choice I believe it would be the flail over the brush mower anytime!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Thanks David, I love the cut it leaves.
Great video, Heath! I love my flail shredder, but it is fifteen feet wide with dual drums…lots of mass to have to spin from a dead stop. My advice to everyone is to slow your engine RPM’s, then very slowly engage the PTO clutch to avoid shearing the clutch plate rivets.
That’s a big unit! I always reduced my rpms before engaging the pto unless the unit is still spinning.
Flail mowers do a great job Heath. That’s a great looking hunting property! I like the way you’ve set it up with bedding area in the middle and food plots on the perimeter. I’m sure it tends to keep more deer on your property.
Thanks, it definitely works. We get more deer as the season progresses as they flee the higher pressured properties.
Good Day Heath, that Flail Mower is great. Brush Hogs just do not cut it.
Working on Cutting up some Wood, from my Log Pile.
I do agree That Locust does have a Very strange Odor. Good Burning but Terrible odor.
Good Luck with the Food Plot for the Deer. To many Ticks around here, and gave it up about 2years ago. Good Luck and as always a Great Video. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
I hate ticks!!! I love hunting and working in the woodyard. Two great outdoor activities.
A rotary mower and a flail mower both have pros and cons. That's why I have both.
Yes they do. I would like to still have both as well.
Hey, brother. Really nice job! Great mower! Chip
Thanks Chip! Looking forward to deer season!
Alls i have is a King Cutter from Mills Fleet Farm (MN). If the one blade goes off center the PTO, it shakes the whole tractor bad! We used to come up here the grass was 4' tall, we'd use it. Could use it again NOW, and I live here! HA! Washington DC has me polishing a seat with my ass right now. That's my excuse! Thank you Michigan! Love from Minnesota! -sAVE AMERICA!
The rotary mowers have their place for sure. King Kutter makes some decent stuff. I almost bought one of their tillers.
It's definitely more compact. Great for trail maintenance, also.
Yes it is, easier to trailer too.
Bought a flail mower 3 years ago and never looked back. Does a lot better job on the horse pastures than a brush hog.
Yes it does!
hi there looks good to me , best to all john
Thanks John!
House fire news, earlier this week I said a magic word to the right person and the insurance company suddenly sent out checks, the magic word was "lawsuit"
lol, guess you should have tried that earlier. At least things are moving along now.
It did a neat job!
Did you plant any apple and pear trees there? I thought I saw one.
There were a few apple trees on this property when I bought it. The only ones I planted here were in the yard. I planted about 30 at my last property. Unfortunately we sold that.
Hey Heath where did you guys get your battery powered dolly ?❤❤❤
Ryan it is from Traxdolly.com the code HWM50 will get you $50 off too. It’s a beast!
👍
Thanks Carl!
Wondering, do you have any dry property.
Not in the last two years! It’s been so rainy here.
The flail mower will do a better job overall without shearing a lot of pins.
So true! A lot easier to maneuver and load on a trailer too.
that's not mulch.
THIS is mulch: ua-cam.com/video/gngL-xfCWpg/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared&t=97
Those are pretty sweet for sure.
Mowing dead grass doesn’t make a strong case.
Mowing dead grass with a rotary mower leaves tons of clumps the flail mower mulches it up perfectly for the food plot.
Way this guy spoke up front he was gonna cut some good size brush disappointing video
I have, but this video was about food plot prep.
This is first time I’ve seen the new tractor👍🏻👏🏻. The flail looks like it does a great job!
So far I really like it. Thanks Larry.
