GMTV, Local News Opt Out Fail

The missed opt-out theme with the addition of the sax and guitar can be heard when an ITV region didn't do an opt-out was stretched far back to 1993 where the text says 'CONTINUES SHORTLY'. They continued to use this post-1996.

+Patrick McCann My theory for the reason why they disappeared was because ITV have copyright claimed most of them and took them down. This is why I think of this is because I have a few of these in a playlist and it says "This video has been blocked in your country due to a copyright claim from ITV plc. Sorry about that."

It is a cue to let the regions know when to rejoin the main programme. It was also used at the end of programmes so that adverts could be lined up.

@@siddn The cue dot was also used to let the ITV regions know that they were about to cue an advert break in Tyne Tees' case, coming from Gateshead with a remote link to Technicolor Network Services (formerly Corinthian TV), Chiswick Park.

@@siddn It looks to be between August 2004 and January 2009 because of the clock design

@@siddn It was recorded in 2007 when regional opt-out failures within GMTV were commonplace. It was the North East News opt-out coming from Gateshead with either Andrew Friend and Pam Royle as newsreaders.
So instead of the local news, you get the 1993-1996 theme tune composed by David Arch with the addition of both the sax and guitar.
