- Hello and Welcome to episode 107 of Trash to Track
In this episode we take a look at a Lima class 101 DMU. This model has been detailed and weathered by its previous owner. I’m going to upgrade the motor and dcc fit this and bring it up to modern running standards.
Thanks for looking.

Lovely model. How we hated to see lowly DMUs back in my trainspotting days.
Super matey. Amazing job great video. Thank you.
Another great video Dan. Keep them coming please. Thank you..Alan
That is a really nice runner
Great video Dan!
Bog units ! Haven’t heard anyone else call them that for 45yrs! We used to call them that as they used to fart loudly as they pulled out of platform 4A at Birmingham New Street on their way to Lichfield
I have a few split chassis locomotives. I've only had one set of axles fail after a derailment. They can offer great value for money. I bought replacement axles from Peters Spares.
i do think these lima 101s look really good, especially when you consider their age
Cracking model of the 101 dmu, brought back so many memories for me.. I used to travel nearly every week on those dmu's in the late 1960s & early 1970s with my mum, I would always try to get a front seat so I could watch the driver through the glass panels, pure magic when your a young child. Lima did make some great models at an affordable price, I would be proud to own any lima model as they still hold their own today, and are so easy to maintain..!
Reminds me of the old seaside trains my Dad used to take us out on for a Saturday day out ❤️.
Nice looking Lima set. I'm going to keep an eye out for one. It was well worth refurbishing and re-motoring. Great job, once again. I wonder what the blackbird will make of it??
That's a really nice dmu . I've used the motor conversion kit from Strathpeffer junction on my 1970s hornby silver seal locomotives, amazing result.
A great looking 101. I love these. They are a fantastic part of a railway. Well worth having.
Another good video, well done. Thank you.
Hi Dan, great video tutorial. I have a similar Hornby unit kitbashed into a South Australian Railways Redhen Set. I will attempt to add an additional pick up too. I am puzzled at how you do a battery test once you have fitted a decoder. Cheers Peter from downunder.
Most decoders allow dc operation, which allows a battery test. Its not ideal but its better than trying to cart the dcc controllers around as i do alot of repairs away from my main layout so a battery comes in handy
@@dansmodelrailways7886 . Yes Dan, my Digitrax system allows DC operation, as you say not recommended for modern motors, but you have to call up loco number zero first. Thanks Peter.
Another great video thanks Dan, love Lima models Ktf John
Thanks Dan lovely vendor love it.
Great video Dan!!! Thanks for sharing! Cheers Onno.
RIP. G-motor. 😀
Fantastic video as always. Quick question... When will the tool giveaway winners be announced? In the tool video I think it was the next video was going to announce but didn't see or hear. Just curious
Thanks for the video, I've done a lima motor conversion in the past but it was a lot fiddlier to do not having the 3d printed part you used, speaking of that, is there some way to obtain the 3d model of the adapter that can be printed? It wolud make future upgrades a lot easier for me.
Hello Dan my name is Terry. I have a few horny blue poormans where the motors are not working. I am registered as a visually impaired person and do not know how to get them working again. I would be very grateful if you could look at them and let me know the cost of doing so which I will cover. Please could you send me your address so that I can send these models to you. Kind regards, Terry
